The aim of the course is to further develop basic communicative skills in French; listening, reading, speaking and writing. Learning will be accomplished by using the language in tasks and class activities. It s based also on learning more vocabulary in order to interact successfully in daily communication. European Framework of Reference for language: A1 (second half) -Objectifs communicatifs et savoir-faire : Comprendre et écrire une invitation. Parler de ses projets dans le futur (rappel). Demander, indiquer l heure la date et prendre un rendez-vous par téléphone. Apprendre à faire une réservation d une chambre d hôtel par courriel ou par téléphone. Exprimer son point de vue positif et négatif. S informer sur le prix et exprimer la quantité. Faire les courses, acheter un vêtement et indiquer sa taille et sa pointure. Aller au restaurant, comprendre un menu, commander. Parler d actions dans le passé et parler de son passé. Situation, localisation : situer un lieu sur un plan, s informer sur un lieu et expliquer un itinéraire. Visiter un appartement et le décrire et comprendre une annonce. Exprimer l obligation ou l interdit.

2 Donner des informations et des conseils à des personnes. Interrogation avec «est-ce que». Exprimer la quantité. -Objectifs linguistiques : Le futur proche : faire un petit rappel. L heure et la date. Les articles partitifs (de la, du, de l, des), combien ça coûte?/ un peu de/ beaucoup de/ peu de/ trop de/ assez de. Savoir et connaître. Penser à, penser de, plaire à, croire. Les verbes du 2 e groupe : choisir, finir, applaudir, grandir, grossir, maigrir, réussir et autres verbes du 3 e groupe. Les pronoms compléments directs : me, te, nous, vous, le, la, l, les. Les pronoms compléments indirects : me, te, nous, vous, lui, leur. Le passé composé et l accord du participe passé avec l auxiliaire être. L impératif Quelques prépositions de lieu et les articles contractés. Il faut, devoir. La négation : ne pas, ne.plus et ne.jamais, ne personne, ne..rien, rien ne, personne ne.. Les pronoms relatifs : qui/que/où Les pronoms compléments indirects : me, te, nous, vous, lui, leur. Vocabulaire : Le tourisme. Le marché, les fruits et les légumes. Les différents commerces. Le restaurant, la cuisine, les plats, les boissons. Quelques plats français. Les magasins, les vêtements et les soldes. Le logement : la chambre, le séjour, la cuisine..

Medical reports are accepted only in case of missing an exam. 60% required in all the components to pass the course. 70% (Grade letter C) required for Audit students to pass the course. The grades are not given according to curve.

4 Expectations : Attendance & participation in class: Attendance: Only 4 no-shows are allowed during the term. Missing more than 20% of classes will result in an F. This is also applicable for the Audit students. Your participation in class will affect your grade which will be evaluated based on the discussions made during the lecture and your involvement. Missing the role plays or homeworks done in class will result in lower grade. Make sure that you bring your textbooks and handouts (used in the previous lessons). Each student should bring his / her own books. In case you forget to bring the books, your grade of attendance and participation is subject to influence. Please make sure you come to the lectures on time and in case of more than 15 min delay, you may attend the class while being considered as absent. Preparation & homeworks: You should be well prepared before coming to class which include a review of the previous lectures, homework, books and notebooks. In case of absence, you are expected to catch up the covered material you missed and you are required to do any homework given in that lecture. In this case, contact other students or the instructor to get the handouts distributed at this specific class. Absenteeism isn t an excuse not to do the homework. Late homeworks will be accepted for feedback but the grade will be zero (0). I only accept typed, double spaced and font size 12 and fully punctuated homework, and with your name, and that should be given to me on time(during the class)

5 Wrong or incomplete homeworks are not counted, so in case of you don t understand the subject you should ask your instructor. The handouts and photocopies should be organized in a folder. Classroom Code of Conduct: Students at Koç University are required to adhere to classroom code of conduct and to refrain from all forms of unacceptable behavior during lectures. The activities which are prohibited in class include and are not limited to: - Engaging in side conservations. - Using cell phones and other electronic devices. All cell phones should be switched off before entering the lecture room. If you expect a very important call, please switch your phone to silent mode and let your professor know in advance that you may receive a call. - Using laptops for purposes that are not course-related. - Arriving late or leaving early without the prior permission of the instructor. If you have to leave during class for an emergency, please try to minimize the disruption. - Reading material, e.g., magazines, newspapers, novels etc., that are not courserelated. - Working on personal activities or the assignments of other courses. - Interrupting the professor or other students. Students should request permission from the instructor before asking questions or making comments. - Trashing the classroom. Eating and drinking are allowed as long as impact on others is minimized and students clean up their garbage after class. Failure to comply with the Classroom Code of Conduct may result in dismissal from class and disciplinary action.
