3 Objectives 1: Expand the network to West and Central Africa to cover the whole of Sub Saharan Africa Hold a training and planning workshop with the network members from West Africa in Ghana. (17 Countries) Hold a training and planning workshop with the network members from East and Southern Africa in Kenya. (21 countries) Objective 2: Provide a French version of APHLIS Objectifs 1: Développer le réseau d'afrique occidentale et centrale pour couvrir l'ensemble de l'afrique sub-saharienne Tenir un atelier de formation et de planification avec les membres du réseau Afrique de l'ouest au Ghana. 4 Objective 3: Review the PHL-profiles in order to cover the conditions in West Central Africa Search the literature on losses in West and Central Africa, extract data and review PHL profiles. Install new profiles in APHLIS Objective 4: Gather data that are required by APHLIS for the estimation of PHLs Distance training and assist network members by s and telephone calls during data entry. What are the different cereals that are grown in your country? How often are they grown a year? 5 What data are required for the calculation of PHLs estimates? For each province, crop, growing season (up to three) and farm type (subsistence and commercial) we need to know: 1. How much grain was produced? (tonnes) 2. How much grain is marketed at harvest? (%) 3. Did it rain or were the conditions very humid at harvest? (yes or no 0 or 1) 4. How long is the grain stored at the farm? (months) 5. Is the larger grain borer a problem? (yes or no 0 or 1) - only for maize Quelles sont les données nécessaires au calcul des estimations de LSP? Pour chaque province, culture, saison de croissance (jusqu'à trois) et type d exploitation (subsistance et commerciale), nous avons besoin de savoir: 1. Combien de grains ont été produits? 10 The African Shared DataBase (SDB) The SDB allows for decentralised management of large amounts of agricultural numeric data according to agreed standards. Main objectives: Strengthen African ownership Prevent the loss of agronomic numeric data. Pool and share data. Improve quality of derived information products. Make economies of scale in data management.

13 Exercise 1: Data entry as data-manager 1. Goto 2. Login with user: password: datamanager_sdb 3. Click on Edit to the far right of the table Production Enter some figures 5.
