COMMUNIQUÉ / PRESS RELEASE ALBUM Un projet de Gintaras Didžiapetris avec Elena Narbutaitė et Rosalind Nashashibi Album, une exposition spécialement pensée pour la Galerie Ferrère au CAPC musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux, qui rassemblera plusieurs travaux de Gintaras Didžiapetris ainsi que des œuvres sélectionnées de Elena Narbutaitė et de Rosalind Nashashibi, invitées par l artiste à participer au projet. Le titre de l exposition est un clin d œil aux tirages à l albumine, une méthode d impression photographique inventé en France au XIX e siècle. Grâce à l utilisation de blancs d œufs, il était ainsi possible de transférer des négatifs photographiques sur papier. Pendant la seconde moitié du XIXème siècle, le tirage à l albumine a été la technique de reproduction la plus répandue, et depuis cette époque, les collections d images (ou de chansons) sont appelées «albums». Dans cette vision, l exposition est une collection d images qui sera exposée tout au long de la Galerie Ferrère, transformée pour l occasion en un seul espace ouvert sans murs. Les visiteurs pourront ainsi, marcher à l intérieur de ce lieu horizontal, que Didžiapetris a voulu considérer à la manière d un éventail, un mécanisme qui permet d ouvrir et de montrer des images en un seul geste de la main. Album est une co-production entre le CAPC musée d art contemporain de Bordeaux et MARCO, Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Vigo, avec la collaboration de Pavilion, Leeds. Les premiers chapitres de l exposition ont été présentés sous les noms Audi Fantasy (2014) et Port Authority (2015), au Pavilion, Leeds, et au MARCO Vigo, respectivement. Album, est une nouvelle interprétation de ce projet, qui est aujourd hui spécialement adapté pour le CAPC musée d art contemporain de Bordeaux. A l occasion de l exposition, un livre d artiste, intitulé House, rassemblant une séquence de photographies et de dessins, sera publié et disponible à la librairie du CAPC musée. Coordonné par Agar Ledo (Commissaire chef au MARCO Vigo) Incluant photographies, projections, illustrations et objets, Album rassemble une diversité d images, qui exposent toutes leurs propres styles, rôles, modes de vie et leurs propres pouvoirs d informer, de transporter et de voyager. Bien que certaines pièces soient uniques et d autres soient plus communes voire produites en masse, il s'agit dans tous les cas de processus, ou d'entités temporaires et nomades, qui opèrent à travers la réactivation, la mise à jour et la transformation des machineries et des systèmes qui les soutiennent. Elles sont le produit de relations réciproques entre le temps, les mécanismes optiques et la subjectivité de celui qui regarde.
ALBUM A project by Gintaras Didžiapetris with Elena Narbutaitė and Rosalind Nashashibi Album, an exhibition specifically designed for the Galerie Ferrère at CAPC musée d'art Contemporain de Bordeaux, features a group of works by Gintaras Didžiapetris together with selected works by Elena Narbutaitė and Rosalind Nashashibi, invited by the artist to take part in the show. The exhibition s title riffs on albumen prints, a photographic printing method invented in France in the nineteenth century. Thanks to the use of egg whites (albumen), it enabled the transfer of images from photographic negatives onto paper. During the second half of the nineteenth century, albumen printing became the most widely used reproduction technique and, since then, collections of images (or songs) are known as albums. Similarly, the exhibition functions as a set of images displayed along the Galerie Ferrère, which has been turned into a single open space without dividing walls. Visitors can walk through it as a flattened space, which Didžiapetris understands similar to a hand fan, a device that allows one to open and show the images all at once through a single gesture of the arm. Album is a co-production between CAPC musée d art contemporain de Bordeaux and MARCO, Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Vigo, with the collaboration of Pavilion, Leeds. Coordinated by Agar Ledo (MARCO Vigo Chief- Curator) Including photography, projections, illustrations and objects, Album brings together a diversity of images, all of which ponder their own looks, role, their modes of life, and their power to inform, transport and travel. While some works are unique, others are more ubiquitous, mass produced, but they are all processes or nomadic, temporary entities operating through reactivation, updating and transformation of machinery and systems that support them. They are products of reciprocal relationships of time, places, and the subjective beholder.
