Le prestigieux Grand Duché du Luxembourg nous accueille cette année sous la houlette de Germain Becker à la présidence du congrès, Guillaume Lecocq à la présidence scientifique et Stella Diblik à l organisation. Pour la partie scientifique, le thème du Diagnostic et du Plan de traitement : vers l excellence du résultat a été choisi. Il s agit de la base de nos réussites thérapeutiques et il est primordial d en rappeler l importance, ce que nos conférenciers de talent vont réaliser durant nos matinées scientifiques. Le pré-congrès nous montrera les apports des progrès technologiques constants dans notre pratique au quotidien grâce aux scanners intra-oraux. C est surtout un grand honneur pour moi personnellement de voir ce rendez-vous important se tenir au Grand-Duché. «Vers l Excellence des résultats» tel est le leitmotiv du congrès. Ceux-ci permettent de se projeter à la fin du traitement orthodontique et de visualiser en quelque sorte le but à atteindre. Une certaine quantité de stripping est même suggérée à l orthodontiste pour parachever cet objectif. Plusieurs questions restent cependant en suspens : Qui définit les formes d arcade? Le torque incisif? L angulation des incisives? L angulation inter-incisive? Les moyens thérapeutiques prévus et mis en place sont-ils en adéquation avec le setup?... Au final, on peut considérer, et ce sans jugement de valeur, que le laboratoire aura prescrit à l orthodontiste un certain nombre de protocoles pour atteindre un objectif qu il aura lui-même dessiné. Pourtant le setup virtuel pourrait être un formidable outil d optimisation clinique et d aide au diagnostic et à la mise en place du plan de traitement. Ce passage d un setup inerte fait au laboratoire par un technicien lambda à un setup accompli et porté par l orthodontiste est la prochaine évolution technologique d autant que chaque partie en présence peut en tirer de réels bénéfices. Why virtual setup is key to define the treatment goals. The orthodontic laboratories are now used to realizing virtual setups for all types of orthodontic appliances (aligners, lingual or labial appliances, etc.). Those help to visualize the end of treatment and to establish the treatment goals. A certain amount of stripping can even be recommended to the orthodontist for the completion of the treatment. But several questions remain: who defines the dental arch form? The incisor inclination?the incisor angulation?the inter-incisor angle? Are planned and implemented therapeutics in line with the setup? We can therefore consider, without implying any judgment, that the laboratory ends up prescribing several protocols to achieve the goals that it defined itself in the first place. However the virtual setup could be an extraordinary tool to achieve clinical optimization, to improve diagnosis and to implement the treatment plan. This evolution of an inert setup made in the laboratory by an unknown technician to a setup which is decided and streamlined by the orthodontist is the next technological evolution, all the more so as each party will benefit from it. Classically realized with a typodont, it is a good way to understand orthodontic mechanics. A new way of simulating orthodontic tooth movement is considered in this study, using 3D tools (CBCT and Dental scan). ( Italian Board of Orthodontics ) Indications et limites de la technique Invisalign Après le développement des gouttières thermoformées qui pouvaient être utilisées pour des mouvements dentaires mineures, le système Invisalign a été introduit initialement pour le traitement des malocclusions modérées. Malgré ses limites, le système Invisalign a été utilisé pour traiter des patients adultes présentant des malocclusions de plus en plus complexes. Maintenant, Invisalign peut être utilisé chez les patients présentant des occlusions antérieures ou postérieures croisées, des supraclusions, des béances antérieures et des problèmes parodontaux qui peuvent rendre le traitement encore plus difficile. Dans de tels cas, un plan de traitement approprié qui corrige la malocclusion tout en respectant l'intégrité de la dentition doit être développé par une équipe multidisciplinaire. En outre, des études récentes ont montré des applications intéressantes et bénéfiques dans le traitement des anomalies squelettiques verticales avec béances sévères. Le but de cette présentation est de mettre en évidence les avantages du traitement Invisalign et définir ses possibles limites. Applicability and limitations of the Invisalign technique After the development of thermoformed appliances that could be used for minor tooth movements, the Invisalign system was initially introduced for treatment of moderate malocclusions. Despite its limitations, the Invisalign system has been used to treat adult orthodontic patients with increasingly complex malocclusions. Thus, the Invisalign system could be employed in patients with anterior and posterior cross-bites, deep bites, anterior open bites or shallow overbites, and periodontal problems that can make their treatment even more challenging. In such a case, an appropriate treatment plan that corrects the malocclusion while respecting the integrity of the dentition should be developed by a multidisciplinary team. Moreover, recent reports showed interesting and useful applications in the treatment of skeletal vertical discrepancies and severe open bites. In 2006 she started a post-graduate program in Orthodontics. She completed a 3 year Masters Degree in Orthodontics at the University of Toulouse-Paul Sabatier (France). She then went on to take a Specialist Degree in Orthodontics at the University of Andorra. Dr. Guiga, currently practices at her own office in Cascais, Portugal, and is the first Orthodontist in Portugal to provide Digital Orthodontics to her patients, through Insignia -Advanced Smile Design.
