05/ ANIMAL FEED In, developments made in the production of food for animals (compound feed, premixes and pet food) followed progress made in the domain of livestock production. With almost 8.5 million tonnes produced (excluding pet food) in 2011 alone, is responsible for almost 41% of the national production of animal feed. 12/ Ranked 10th in the world (1% of the total volume), the production of seaweed in (90% of the total volume in France) is for the most part carried out by wrack gathering boats (65,000 tonnes), producers on foot completing this production (6,000 tonnes) and via aquaculture, representing just 50 tonnes of the total volume. This production method is set to be developed via initiatives led by private actors and the collective actions of the BREIZH'ALG programme.
