The objectives of this unit are stated below: OBJECTIVES On successful completion of this unit, you should be able to: Define civilization and Francophonie. State the objectives of Francophonie. List the founding fathers of Francophonie. Name some summits of Francophonie. What Is Civilisation / Que Veut Dire La Civilisation? La civilisation est un ensemble de caractères communs à un groupe humain, une société organisée, son milieu, ses habitudes, ses croyances, ses modes d expression. We will look at the characteristics of civilisation in this order.
Un homme (man) une civilisation, c est d abord un groupe d hommes, un peuple ou plusieurs peuples vivant ensemble. Economie: Economie fondée sur une ou plusieurs activités (chaise, agriculture, artisanat, commerce, industrie). L espace géographique (geographical space) : un territoire, un pays, avec son relief, son climat, et son influence, etc. Organisation sociale (social organisation) : les pauvres, organisation sociale, les puissants, les politiques Mode de vie (mode of living), habitat, nourriture, vêtement, éducation, des enfants, loisirs. Croyances (beliefs) : des croyances, des religions, des idées, une manière de voir la vie, de vouloir vivre. Téchnologie (Technology) : ça veut dire; des techniques, perfectionnement des outils, grandes inventions. Art, peinture, sculpture, architecture, musique, littérature, poésie. La Francophonie Qu est ce que la Francophonie? What is francophonie? C est une expression recouvrant l ensemble des Etats utilisant le français et se reconnaissant membres de cette communauté de culture et d histoire. Tout simplement, la francophonie est un terme désignant un ensemble de communauté où le français est parlé. To explain to you what Francophonie means we will say that it is simply is a community of nations with common interests pursuing collective goals and having in common the usage of French Language. 3.3.1 Objectives of Francophonie La francophonie renforce la solidarité entre les pays membres. Cette solidarité se manifeste parfois dans le domaine de la politique. La promotion académique La Fracophonie se fixe pour objectif de susciter toute initiative relative à la défense de la langue française. La promotion des cultures et la connaissance mutuelle des cultures des pays membres. Le commerce international sur un marché liberal. Of all these objectives the major objective of the organisation is to principally defend the French language in the world and also to maintain peace and unity among member nations. Others include the promotion of culture, education, bilateral relations and commerce. 3.3.2 The Fathers of Francophonie The fathers of «Francophonie» include: le général Charles de Gaule de la France, Hamanie, Diori du Niger, Habib Bourguiba de la Tunisie, Leopold Sédar Senghor du Sénégal, Norodum Sihanuk du Cambodge, Jean-Marc Leger du Québec. 3.3.3 Summits of Francophonie All the heads of state of French speaking countries meet every 2 years to have summits. Some of the summits and their dates are listed below. 1986 - le premier sommet à Versailles 1987-2 e sommet à Québec 1989-3 e sommet à Parker 1991-4e sommet à Paris 1993-5 e sommet à Maurice 1995-6 e sommet à Cotonou 1997-7 e sommet à Hanoi, Vietnam
1999-8 e sommet à Mcunton, Canada 2002-9 e sommet à Beyrouth 3.3.4 Francophone World It suffices to mention here that Francophone countries are all over the world in Africa, Asia, Middle East, Europe, America, and Island Communities. We will have the list of these countries in our subsequent units of study.
