Editorial Team Several years of banking changes have given customers more flexibility and better service, while leaving most banks with an evolved set of delivery channels. Banks need to integrate distribution channels operationally in business processes, organisation structure and IT infrastructure. Through channels integration, banks can enhance the ability to: Become a provider of choice through superior customer service. Achieve competitive operational costs by improving efficiency and effectiveness. A first step, among many others, is deploying a flexible, affordable and resilient infrastructure to support multi-channel integration initiatives. It is important for banking IT leaders to understand the business strategies and plans. Channel Initiative at SBM Since the implementation of ATM machines in the early 90s, its adoption has consistently increased to the extent of getting well ingrained in our customers habit. Thus, the need to revamp the customer experiences on this channel. In January last year, a project was initiated at our Bank with as main objectives to reduce transaction time as well as make the customer journey more pleasant and appealing on our ATMs. After implementation in October last year, major changes were brought to the ATM experience, which include: faster transaction processing, personalised greetings, more fast cash options, fewer key press, improved visuals, option for onscreen or paper printing of balance and mini-statement, among others. A post implementation survey was conducted in December 2011 and responses were more than encouraging: 81.6% of respondents agree that we have made their life simpler with the ATM enhancements

2 analyst meeting Analyst Meeting for business leaders at SBM Business leaders were invited at SBM Tower on 19 March 2012 for a presentation on the performance and outlook of our Group. Both SBM s former Chief Executive, Mr Gautam Vir and Mr. Chandradev Appadoo, Divisional Leader - Finance, addressed the audience, with a discussion on the recent financial performance of the Group as well as on the challenges and opportunities lying ahead. Mr. Vir concluded by reminding the guests about the key initiatives recently undertaken as well as the strategic orientations of the Group going forward. SBM Group is performing well despite the difficult market conditions. On a like to like basis, operating profit for December 2011 increased by over 33% compared to the corresponding period last year. The return on average assets also improved from 2.65% (Dec 10) to 2.75% (Dec 11) while return on Core Capital stood at 23.13% (Dec 11). A number of customer initiatives were implemented during the past year namely: enhancing existing products to better meet customers requirements, upgrading the bank s infrastructure and technology platform to enhance customer experience and introducing new products and services like SBM Ecoloan, Bancassurance, SBM Smile Prepaid Cards and SBM BILLPAY. The Bank also invested a lot in its CSR programs to support projects with an educational / empowerment dimension with special focus on promoting employability and combating social ills with a view to alleviate poverty in the Republic of Mauritius. Looking ahead, the Group will tap into growth opportunities by increasing market share in domestic loans and deposits, increasing share of fee-based income, expanding business in the Indian market, upgrading its technology platform and launching new products and services amongst others. 02

3 CSR La SBM octroie 76 bourses pour la formation professionnelle et technique De nouvelles chances de réussite sont offertes aux élèves nécessiteux du secteur de la formation professionnelle et technique grâce aux bourses d études octroyées sous le SBM Scholarship Scheme. La banque a remis le 30 janvier dernier un total de 76 bourses aux étudiants les plus méritants du Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD). Après plus de 150 bourses d études offertes aux étudiants nécessiteux de l éducation tertiaire, la SBM étend son soutien aux élèves de la formation professionnelle et technique. La banque affirme ainsi sa volonté de faciliter l accès à l éducation pour ceux qui ont le potentiel de réussir, mais qui n ont pas toujours les moyens d y arriver. En effet, les bénéficiaires appartiennent à des familles dont le revenu mensuel ne dépasse pas Rs par mois. Ces nouvelles bourses se divisent en deux groupes, avec 14 bourses dédiées à la poursuite des études de Post Secondary Diplomas et la balance pour assurer les frais d examens pour 62 étudiants. Mis en place en novembre 2009, le MITD offre des programmes de formation à plein temps, à temps partiel ou en apprentissage, dans ses 15 établissements à travers l île et forme environ jeunes chaque année. Lors de la cérémonie de remise de bourses, M. Gautam Vir a rappelé l engagement de la banque en faveur des groupes vulnérables. Il a affirmé que l objectif de la banque était de fournir aux nécessiteux les outils et opportunités pour se réaliser sur le plan professionnel. Retail Collections Team supports APEIM SBM s Retail Collections Team handed over some pedagogical materials to the staff of APEIM Port-Louis on 5th April to enhance the facilities offered to the students. The team had organised a fund raising activity at work and the money gathered was trebled by the bank under the SBM 1:2 Matching Scheme. The total donation amounting to Rs was used to purchase specialized equipment and educational materials, including a gardening project for young mentally handicapped adults at St. Monfort, which is a vocational training centre run by APEIM. This association provides education and a wide range of services to around 760 mentally handicapped children and young adults through more than 10 schools and departments, including its two specialised schools integrated in existing primary schools in Port-Louis (at Bon Secours, Edith Cavell Street & La Montagne, Bell Village). 03

4 CSR Aide au Couvent Mère Teresa Blood Donation Campaigns Les employés du Data Management Unit (DMU) de la SBM ont lancé une seconde action dans le cadre du SBM 1:2 Matching Scheme. Après être venu en aide l année dernière à l École des Sourds, ce département a organisé cette année, une tombola qui a permis de récolter Rs La banque a ajouté Rs à ce montant pour un don qui ira au Couvent Mère Teresa (Missionnaires de la Charité). Ce couvent accueille des personnes âgées abandonnées par leurs familles ainsi que des enfants issus de foyers en détresse. Les missionnaires assurent aussi aux enfants une éducation au niveau du primaire. After having organized an SBM 1:2 Matching Scheme last year in favour of 2 NGOs providing educational facilities to disabled children of Flacq, SBM s Unit in this village embarked on a new initiative to support the Laventure Technical School for Disabled. This school provides educational facilities for some 60 disabled students. For the occasion, the students had prepared a show with songs and dances for the audience mainly composed of parents and staff from Flacq SU who appreciated this warm interaction. The SBM units in Rivière des Anguilles and Lallmatie have supported community actions for the organisation of blood donation activities in Rivière des Anguilles and in Belvedère during the month of March. In Tyack, Rivière des Anguilles, the blood donation helped in collecting 82 pints. Furthermore, some 101 pints were collected at the Belvédère Mediclinic from donors coming from the village itself and from Brisée Verdière and Mare d Australia. The SBM team worked in close collaboration with community associations to welcome blood donors and offer them refreshments after their kind par ticipation. La SBM avait réuni pour l occasion un parterre d invités composé des clients du département Wealth Management de la banque dont les gestionnaires de fonds d investissement et de fonds de pension, ainsi que des acteurs économiques, chefs d entreprises et des représentants du secteur offshore. M. Gautam Vir, précédent Chief Executive de la SBM, et M. Vishal Joyram, Head - Wealth Management, ont rappelé aux invités les avantages du SBM India Fund, proposé à travers la SBM MAM, filiale du Groupe SBM. Cocktail at Allied Motors The show was great at VW Marktplatz showroom in Reduit on 21 March. The guests enjoyed an acrobat performance during the spectacular unveiling of the latest and beautiful Volkswagen Passat 1.8 l Turbo FSI. The evening, organised by Allied Motors and SBM, aimed at marking the partnership between the two companies for a tie-up offer to SBM and non SBM clients for the purchase of this new car. M. A travers SBM BILLPAY, la banque innove une fois de plus avec ce nouveau service lancé le 12 avril dernier en collaboration avec Mauritius Telecom/Orange. SBM was a Gold sponsor of the ACCA Career Fair which was held at the Cyber Tower 1, Ebene in February. The Bank had a dedicated stand during the fair in view to promote SBM Prepaid Cards, particularly the Foreign Currency Prepaid Card. SBM s mobile sales team also visited the ACCA office in Ebene from mid-february till the end of March to promote the cards. They laid emphasis on the easiness to obtain the card and PIN number, locked exchange rates at time of purchase, easy and safe internet payments for ACCA registration, availability of the cards in several major currencies and also the easy reloadable feature. 07

8 nouveaux produits et promotions Tie-up with Atom Travel SBM partnered with Atom Travel to promote the SBM Prepaid Cards together with Atom Travel s International Student Identity Card (ISIC), International Youth Travel Card and the International Teacher Identity Card. The bank is making a special offer for the holders of the above cards by waiving the account fee for their first SBM Prepaid Card. ISIC is the only globally recognised student ID, valid in more than 120 countries. Each year, more than 4.5 million students buy an ISIC Card to obtain discounts in more than outlets and on air tickets. The card is valid for 15 to 16 months and endorsed by UNESCO. Atom Travel was appointed as the issuing office for this card as well as for the International Teacher Identity Card in Mauritius for STA Travel, which is the world largest travel agency for students and young people. SBM at UOM Career Fair SBM participated and supported the Faculty of Social Science & Humanities (FSSH) Career Oriented Fair 2012 organised by the Student s Union of the University of Mauritius (UOM). SBM AT THE PTC FAIR As last year, SBM participated in PTC Fair held on 18 and 19 February at Labourdonnais Hotel in Port-Louis for the benefit of Mauritian students willing to pursue further studies abroad. The fair attracted around 450 students and brought together representatives of 30 universities from major countries, including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Hungary, Switzerland and UK. The fair was held from 5 to 6 April. SBM chose this platform to introduce SBM Prepaid Cards to students of the UOM for them to perform their day to day payments - such as registration fees, canteen services, library expenses and so on - easily and securely on the campus. They can also use the card for shopping in Mauritius and abroad or to perform internet transactions safely.
