Read Caroline s diary entry below and answer the questions on pages 3 and 5, in English, in the spaces provided. D abord, tout allait bien. J ai rencontré les copines de Sarah à la récré et tout le monde était gentil. On était assis sous un arbre dans la cour parce que le soleil était très fort. J ai mis une cigarette à la bouche, comme je fais souvent à l école en France, et soudain, un professeur m a dit : «Suivez-moi!». Il avait l air assez fâché. J ai dû aller avec lui jusqu au bureau de la principale et je me suis retrouvée seule devant la porte pendant plus d un quart d heure. J ai eu le temps d écrire cinquante mots en anglais pour expliquer ma situation. Enfin, la principale est sortie de son bureau. Je lui ai dit : «Je suis étrangère, je n ai rien fait, je ne sais pas pourquoi je suis là». Elle a compris que j étais française à cause de mon accent et elle a appelé le prof de français. J ai parlé avec lui au téléphone et j ai enfin compris que l école est non-fumeur en Nouvelle-Zélande. Ils ont pris mes cigarettes, et je n ai pas eu ma dose de nicotine aujourd hui et je me sens malade. Heureusement, j ai décidé d arrêter les cigarettes parce que je sais que c est mauvais pour moi. Il est minuit. Je vais me coucher maintenant, mais j ai envie d une dernière cigarette.

Glossary: beurk yuck Chère Sylvie, La vie est vraiment très différente ici. Je fais plus de sport qu avant parce que les gens sont très sportifs et beaucoup d élèves jouent dans une équipe pour l école. J ai commencé le netball qui est un sport un peu comme le basket mais il ne faut pas courir avec le ballon à la main et on joue dehors. J ai joué un match pour la première fois hier matin et je pense que nous avons perdu à cause de moi. On conduit sur la gauche donc on regarde d abord à droite quand on traverse la rue. Ici l école finit plus tôt qu en France, à trois heures vingt et après on est libre! Quelle bonne idée! Et ils ne vont pas à l école le samedi matin! C est vraiment super! J ai coupé un kiwi en deux l autre jour et j ai été surprise. C était jaune à l intérieur et non pas vert comme les kiwis en France. En France, on prend un repas chaud à table pour le déjeuner, avec trois plats différents. Aujourd hui, j ai acheté un sandwich à l œuf et au jambon et un fruit mais j ai toujours faim. Les enfants mangent très mal au déjeuner : des chips, du coca, et des tartes néo-zélandaises, beurk!!! Je me suis trompée un jour et j ai acheté une tarte. C était affreux!
