An air purifier is an electrical device that cleans the air in a room by removing particles from indoor air such as smoke, dust, pollen, dust mite The efficiency of Air Purifier is based on both filtering media and air flow going through the device. How to compare the different Air Purifiers? AHAM AHAM stands for the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. This is an American association the mission of which is to enhance the value of the home appliance industry through leadership, public education and advocacy. AHAM created a Room Air Cleaner Certification Program and test method to certify air cleaner performance through an unbiased, independent laboratory. For more information see or What is the CADR? The Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) is a measure of how quickly an air cleaner cleans the air. A higher CADR means that the air cleaner cleans the air more quickly (it provides more clean air). CADR is the one performance measure that can be used to compare all air cleaners. CADR is usually measured for three particle challenges: smoke, dust, and pollen. According to the AHAM Room Air Cleaner Certification Program, the recommended room size is related to the smoke CADR. While higher CADR always equals higher cleaning 1/1

2 power, higher CADR is not always necessary for a closed room, which is why the room size recommendation was created. CADR is a uniform performance measure that is included on ALL room air cleaners that are part of the AHAM Room Air Cleaner Certification Program.. The CADR rating label will list the CADR rating for tobacco smoke, dust, and pollen, and it will also list the recommended room size per the standard AHAM procedure. The filters Disposable filters Filtres HEPA HEPA is an acronym for "high efficiency particulate absorbing" or "high efficiency particulate air." According to the strict definition of a HEPA filter, it is at least 99.97% efficient at capturing 0.3 micron particles (DOE 1997), However, many HEPA filters are made with dense fibers so they have a much higher pressure drop than an equal-size filter used in the Ultra clean units. Due to the density of the fibers, the room air cleaners that use HEPA filters may contain larger motor to run the fan at a higher speed so that air can pass through the filter. These air cleaners are louder than the Ultra clean units.. Filtrete TM Filters They are filters made of permanently electro statically charged fibers converted into a non woven pleated web. Those filters allow a good filtration with a minimal pressure drop and air flow reduction. Permanent filters Media filters Those filters retain large particles and have to be cleaned regularly, such as vacuuming, which never remove 100% of the collected particles. Ionizers An ionizer is an electronic device that charges the particles in the air. Small charged particles are more easily captured by an electrostatic filter, and small charged particles will also naturally remove themselves from the air. Some air purifiers combine a filter with an ionizer these air purifiers can still have very good air cleaning power (CADR). Some units that have only an electrostatic precipitator (ionizer) and little, if any, airflow have an extremely low CADR;. Ionizer-only air purifiers are typically not rated with AHAM for CADR.. 2/1

3 All the ionizers are producing Ozone because they are using high voltage to ionize the air. According to the standard IEC/EN edition et IEC/EN edition about the limit of ozone emission, the level of ozone has to be below 0.05 ppm. Why different sizes of filters? Each filter was designed specifically for the air purifier in which it is used to optimize performance.. Importance of usage conditions No room air cleaner will remove 100% of the particles in a room due to a variety of factors First, only a certain amount of air will pass though the air cleaner at any time. The filter will only remove particles from the air that passes through the filter. Second, if you open any windows or doors in the room in which the room air cleaner is operating, you will introduce more air into the room, and thus more particles which will mix with the air in the room, even air that has already passed through the room air cleaner. Third, even if you walk around the room or take a seat, additional particles will be introduced into the air. Finally, if you run your filter in a larger room than is recommended by the manufacturer, the room air cleaner will not be able to remove particles from the larger space as quickly. Room air cleaners are designed to remove particles from the air in a limited area. They perform the same way, whether they contain HEPA filters or not. For a better air cleaning use the air purifier in a closed room. 4 Advantages and benefits An attractive design The Filtrete air purifiers are designed with ease of use in mind. Filter change is quick and straightforward. The air purifiers were designed to look beautiful from all four sides. The filter change indicator As a filter becomes covered with particles, the pressure drop rises. As the pressure drop rises, the motor speed increases in a very predictable way. The Ultra Clean air purifiers have a special filter change indicator that measures the speed of the motor, which indicates how "plugged up" the filter is. The filter change indicator determines when the filter has reached the end of its useful life, thus the user will know it is time to replace the filter. A yellow LED indicates the filter has reached 80% of its capacity. The red LED indicates the filter has to be changed. Superior Air flow Advantages of using a Filtrete filter which is electrostatocally charged : 1- lower noise 2- higher air flow. the CADR is determined by both airflow and filter efficiency. Higher airflow provides better circulation throughout a room, but for most media filters, it provides an additional benefit: higher dust and pollen removal. Economical concept If the air cleaner is run on high speed, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, for an entire year, the small unit will use about 55 of electricity, and the large unit will use about 166 of electricity. ( Based on French electricity price /kwh) Noise Information Decibels measure noise level. They are measured on a logarithmic scale. Because of that when the intensity is doubled, this is equivalent to increase noise level in db of about 3dB.
