3 POPULATION ESTIMATES BY MARITAL STATUS, AGE AND SEX, FOR CANADA AND PROVINCES ESTIMATIONS DE LA POPULATION SUIVANT LITAT MATRIMONIAL, L'AGE ET LE SEXE, CANADA ET PROVINCES 1968 This report provides estimates of the population by marital status, age and sex, for Canada and the provinces for 1967 and 1968, with comparative data for the 1966 Census. The estimated total population of Canada on June 1, 1968 was 20,744,000 of whom 14,178,500 or 68.3 p.c. were 15 years of age and over. The estimated total of males, 15 years of age and over, was 7,050,700 of whom 2,253,200 or 32.0 p.c. were single, 4,569,100 or 64.8 p.c. were married and 228,400 or 3.2 p.c. were widowed or divorced. The estimated total of females, 15 years of age and over, was 7,127,800 of whom 1,793,400 or 25.2 p.c. were single, 4,575,300 or 64.2 p.c. were married and 759,100 or 10.6 p.c. were widowed or divorced. Statement of Procedure Using the 1966 Census figures on marital status by age and sex as a base, vital statistics on births by sex, marriages and deaths by marital status, age and sex, and dissolutions of marriages by age and sex, as well as immigration statistics by marital status, age and sex, for the period June 1, 1966 to June 1, 1968 were applied to the census figures to obtain estimates of the population by marital status, age and sex, for Allowance has also been made for the marital status, age and sex composition of the estimated number of emigrants and interprovincial migrants over this period. In estimating ages of husbands or wives whose spouses had died over the period, the difference in ages of married couples as shown at the 1961 Census was used as the basis of assignment. Finally, the age totals in the table were adjusted to correspond with the official population estimates by age and sex for 1968 published in Catalogue No , Estimated Population by Sex and Age Group, for Canada and Provinces, Meth ode d'estimation En partant des chiffres du recensement de 1966 sur l'etat matrimonial suivant rage et le sexe auxquels on a appliqué les donnees de l'etat civil sur les naissances suivant le sexe, sur les mariages et les (leas suivant l'etat matrimonial, l'age et le sexe, et sur les dissolutions de mariages suivant rage et le sexe, de meme que les statistiques de l'immigration selon l'etat matrimonial, l'age et le sexe pour la periode du ler juin 1966 au ler juin 1968, on a obtenu une estimation de la population suivant l'etat matrimonial, l'age et le sexe pour II a ete tenu compte de la repartition selon l'etat matrimonial, rage et le sexe des emigrants et des migrants interprovinciaux durant la periode. Pour evaluer rage des mans ou des femmes dont le conjoint est mort durant la periode, on a utilise comme base la difference d'age des couples manes, d'apres le recensement de Finalement, les totaux quant l'age dans le tableau ont ete rectifies pour qu'ils correspondent avec les evaluations officielles de la population suivant l'age et le sexe pour 1968, publiees dans le catalogue numero , Population estimative suivant le sexe et par groupe d'age, Canada et provinces, 1968.
