The city is a leader with its sunshine, seaside tourist and nautical sports activities. The city evokes what France is all about architecture, art and its French way of life. Teaching Institution: Opened in 1931, the IEF has over 80 years of experience in the teaching of French as a foreign language. The Centre is open all year round and is well-equipped with modern teaching resources. The institute is part of La Rochelle Business School, an internationally recognized French business school which receives international students from across the world around 650 students out of a total of 3100 students are from overseas every year.

2 Course Information Teaching Institution: Institut d'études Françaises (IEF) Location: La Rochelle, France Dates: 04 th July 29 th July 2016 Duration: 4 weeks Course contact hours: 80 hours Available Support Services Students have access to: A 475 m² library which has a partnership agreement with the University Library located just a five-minute walk from the School Computing facilities A self-service multi-media Centre Unlimited access to the School intranet and Wi-Fi Support by English-speaking admissions and enquiry staff Accommodation support Support with joining social and extracurricular activities Instructor Information All IEF teachers are native French speakers and are specialists in the teaching of French to international learners. Teaching methods IEF s French language classes are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and are therefore taught at every level from A1 to C2. The language level of each student is regularly assessed in order to encourage optimal individual progress.

3 The number of students is limited to not more than 18 students per class. This enables all students to benefit from close supervision from their teachers. The aim of IEF classes is to enable students to acquire or deepen their knowledge of French grammar and vocabulary through the use of a wide range of teaching support materials (authentic documents, audio and visual materials etc.), all of which are designed to develop both oral and written expression and comprehension skills. Attendance Students are required to attend all classes organized as part of the program. Absences will be recorded and marks deducted from students final grade if they are not justified with a medical certificate or other form of substantiation. Class participation All students are required to actively participate in class. This forms a substantial part of students final mark. PROGRAM: SPORTS & LANGUAGE The historical, nautical and seaside city seduces with its natural splendid setting and surroundings. There are sports and leisure for every taste in La Rochelle. In summer period, the French Institute offers students the opportunity to take part in a range of sports in afternoons: Kayaks, Sailing Catamaran, Windsurfing, Sailboat, Swimming, Tennis, Squash, and Badminton

4 PROGRAM: CULTURE, GASTRONOMY & LANGUAGE La Rochelle has maintained its past architecture making it one of the most picturesque and historically rich cities in the Atlantic coast. It is also well known for its seafood platters and fishes. You will discover delicious meals with coarse salt from Ile de Ré, mussels and obviously: Cognac and Pineau des Charentes! Sightseeing to let you discover our history and culture: La Rochelle city and its Towers, The market & its local products, 1 entry to the annual music festival (Francofolies festival), Conferences of oenology & wine tasting, Cooking classes, Visit of a salt production company,visit of a COGNAC and Pineau des Charentes producer.
