About us... Photo credit : Dan Aucante The Melting Spot company was created in 19994, by the choreographer Farid Berki, with for central artistic gait the stand off of different artistic universes. Self-leaner street dancer, Farid Berki learn different dance techniques (such as classical, jazz, contemporary, tap dance, and african), regarding each dance flow has its own history and vocabulary, but also that it is possible to create links between them, to mix them in order to extend them reciprocally. The choreographer is trying to punch every ideas, as much as what s about hip hop dannce, but also about the other the other dance s forms, ans their barriers. The mixture of genders in the artistic gait of the company give to the future and past creation an innovation feeling, touching as much the dancers as the public. Melting Spot is using dance as an idea support, in order to give messages, often written in a duality theme, regarding a meeting or contrary points of view. «At the head of Melting Spot, the Tourcoing s kid who was learning how to danse by imitating the television, is now the mundial icon of hip hop cliché lightened, and open to other art forms.» Le Nouvel Observateur, 2005. 2

Du feel a retordre CREATION 2009 Solo Duration : 30 minutes Transmission of Farid Berki s solo, «du Feel à retordre» reflects the sense of always flirting with the breaking point. The artist is like a tightrope walker in a dilemma: moving to momentarily put himself out of reach when at each step the specter of the fall emerges. Because forward is not necessarily reproduce, this suspended travel weaves a «wire» between its both performers. Deng Deng! CREATION 2008 Franco-Chadian project Duration : 50 minutes Through a complex set of words, of pulse, of flow, of rhythm, three men with different past and different looks refer to the identity problem of Chad. The dancers remind us, without any complaint or misery, to our own prejudices. Reading the title «Deng Deng!» which literally means «Different!» allow to catch the whole point of this creation. Oud! CREATION 2006 Duo for a dancer and a comedian Duration : 30 minutes Meeting between Hip Hop and Burlesque theater. This work demonstrates a wordless meeting between two people lost in a world they do not understand. Language springs from their bodies and brings them, despite themselves, into absurd and often hopeless situations. To bounce back, in a quite parodic way, they patiently wait for a signal felt from heaven, from the public or from the outside world. Stravinski remix LILLE 2015 (59) Ballet for 10 dancers with the Orchestre National de Lille Scherzo Fantastique and Firebird - Stravinski Representation at the Grand Sud the 13 th and 14 th November 2015 Created in 2013 at La Cité de la Musique in Paris, the Scherzo Fantastique by Stravinsky proposed by Farid Berki results into a colorful and explosive trio. In 2015, the choreographer takes back this work alongside the 90 musicians of the Orchestre National de Lille, before sharing the stage with emerging dancers from the Region Nord-Pas de Calais and Belgium for the creation of the Firebird by Stravinsky. Stravinski en mode hip hop PARIS 2013 (75) The Scherzo fantastique and the Rite of spring - Stravinski Representations at the Grande Halle de la Villette the 6 th and 7 th Avril 2013 Working on two Stravinsky s works for La Cité de La Musique and the Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris, Farid Berki has faced two different challenges. The Scherzo Fantastique has defined a trio of professional dancers of the company Melting Spot. The Rite of Spring has turn into a cultural action in partnership with Cultures sur Cour, the Roger Martin du Gard secondary school of Epinay sur Seine and the École de la Deuxième chance in Sarcelles. A total of fifty young people has been aware of the hip hop and classical/modern music.
