2 Les systèmes embarqués bénéficient à l heure actuelle d un formidable essor technologique 17 e édition / 17 th edition avec des perspectives industrielles très prometteuses pour les années qui viennent. Présents dans la vie quotidienne de chacun d entre nous, pensons aux calculateurs embarqués dans l automobile, aux équipements médicaux portables, aux capteurs intelligents, à tous les appareils personnels communicants (téléphone, systèmes GPS ), les systèmes embarqués sont la résultante d un étroit couplage entre une plate forme matérielle spécifique et du code logiciel enfoui. Aujourd hui, tous ces systèmes évoluent très rapidement : ils doivent traiter des volumes de données de plus en plus importants, avec des vitesses de traitement toujours plus rapides le tout dans un contexte de sécurisation des données alors que dans le même temps ils sont de plus en plus communicants et ouverts vers l extérieur (services web embarqués, liaisons WiFi ). Pour les concepteurs qui imaginent les systèmes embarqués de demain, les défis technologiques sont donc immenses. Ils sont d ores et déjà abordés au sein de nombreux projets de recherche portés par plusieurs Pôles de Compétitivité en France (Systematic, Minalogic, Aerospace Valley ). Mais cette industrie, qui est essentiellement structurée à travers des marchés verticaux (automobile, ferroviaire, téléphone mobile, carte à puces ) a besoin de se décloisonner et de tirer profit des expériences de chacun pour définir les standards logiciels et matériels de demain. Systèmes d exploitation, environnement de développement, modules processeurs sont autant de briques technologiques de base qui, à l avenir, devrait bénéficier d une intense réflexion de la part de tous les acteurs du domaine autour des thèmes de la standardisation et de l ouverture. Dans ce contexte, le salon rts EMBEDDED SYSTEMS est une opportunité pour les industriels, sociétés de services, intégrateurs, chercheurs de se rencontrer, de dialoguer et de se renseigner sur les évolutions technologiques transversales du moment à travers les conférences techniques et les présentations des différents acteurs du marché. Un seul objectif : mieux comprendre les évolutions technologiques en cours pour mieux les anticiper. Côté matériel, l édition 2009 sera l occasion de s intéresser aux évolutions des modules processeurs avec l utilisation de nouveaux processeurs pour l embarqué, notamment l architecture Atom d Intel. Parallèlement, l arrivée massive dans l embarqué de CPU multicoeurs pose de redoutables problèmes de programmation et de débogage. Le salon rts EMBEDDED SYSTEMS 2009, sera l occasion de s intéresser aux solutions d ores et déjà existantes et de faire le point sur les évolutions des années à venir : stratégies de programmation, efficacité de ces systèmes, portabilité des applications existantes Autre point fort de l édition 2009 de rts EMBEDDED SYSTEMS, les visiteurs pourront s intéresser de près aux solutions à base de composants reprogrammables (les FPGA) avec leur capacité de traitement intensif de données, leur aptitude à gérer des liens de communications spécifiquement adapté aux besoins d une application et leur ouverture sur des solutions généralistes grâce à l intégration en leur sein de cœurs de processeurs standards. Côté logiciel, le monde des applications embarquées est profondément influencé par le phénomène Open Source. Le système d exploitation Linux en est le représentant emblématique, tous les fournisseurs de systèmes d exploitation temps réel ayant désormais peu ou prou des offres complètes autour de Linux. Au delà, la plate forme de développement en Open Source Eclipse rencontre un succès indéniable auprès de la communauté des développeurs. Car au sein de ce projet, de portée universelle, de nombreuses initiatives portent directement sur le monde des systèmes embarqués. Le salon rts EMBEDDED SYSTEMS, au travers notamment de son cycle de conférences, offre l opportunité de regarder comment tirer profit des potentialités de l Open Source et comment intégrer du code libre à ses propres développements propriétaires. L édition 2009 de la manifestation permettra d analyser dans le même temps les différentes techniques de virtualisation disponibles sur le marché, avec en arrière plan la thématique de la sécurisation des données qui devient un enjeu majeur pour les systèmes embarqués du futur. Le visiteur pourra aussi profiter de l événement pour se tenir au courant des évolutions des techniques de programmation, avec l approche basée modèle (et notamment les langages UML et SySML), sur les évolutions vers le temps réels (avec le profil UML Marte) Bref, d analyser une des tendances fortes des prochaines années : la nécessité de remonter d un niveau d abstraction la programmation d un système embarqué afin de mieux gérer les niveaux de complexité atteints. Embedded systems are currently profiting from formidable technological development with very promising industrial perspectives for the years to come. Present in all of our daily lives, as embedded computer systems in cars, portable medical equipment, intelligent sensors, all the different personal communications devices (telephones, GPS systems...), embedded systems are the result of a narrow coupling between a platform with specific hardware and an embedded software code. Today, all these systems evolve very quickly: they have to deal with increasingly important volumes of data, with ever-increasing processing speeds and all this must be maintained within a context of data security while they communicate more and more and are increasingly open to the exterior (embedded internet services, WiFi connections...). For the designers planning the embedded systems of tomorrow, the challenges are therefore immense. They are already working at the heart of numerous research projects being undertaken by several Competitive Clusters in France (Systematic, Minalogic, Aerospace Valley...). However, this industry, which is essentially structured around vertical markets (automotive, railways, mobile telephones, smart cards...) must be decompartmentalised and must benefit from everyone s experience in order to define tomorrow s standards for software and hardware. Operating systems, development environments and processing modules are also basic technological building blocks and, in the future, they must profit from intense rethinking by all operators in the fields concerned with standardisation and opening up. Within this context, the RTS EMBEDDED SYSTEMS show provides an opportunity for industrial actors, service companies, developers and social networkers to open up a dialogue and inform themselves on the broad technological developments of the moment through technical conferences and presentations by different actors on the market. There is only one objective: to better understand the technological changes currently underway in order to better anticipate them. As far as hardware is concerned, the 2009 event will be a chance to take an interest in developments in processing modules with the use of new processors for embedded systems, notably Intel s Atom architecture. At the same time, the massive arrival in embedded systems of multicore CPUs certainly poses a few problems in terms of programming and debugging. The rts EMBEDDED SYSTEMS SHOW 2009 will provide the opportunity to take an interest in solutions which already exist and to find out about changes in the years to come: programming strategies, the efficiency of these systems, portability of existing systems. Another strong point of the rts EMBEDDED SYSTEMS SHOW 2009 is that visitors can closely examine solutions based on reprogrammable components (FGPAs), with their capacity for intensive data processing, their ability to manage communications links specifically adapted to an application s needs and their openness to general solutions thanks to their integration in the cores of standard processors. As far as software is concerned, the world of embedded applications is profoundly influenced by the Open Source phenomenon. The Linux operating system is the emblematic example of this, as all providers of real time operating systems have, until now, created little or no complete offers based on Linux. Moreover, the Open Source development platform Eclipse has experienced undeniable success among the web design community. This is because, at the heart of this universally applicable project, numerous initiatives directly relate to the world of embedded systems. The rts EMBEDDED SYSTEMS SHOW 2009, notably through its schedule of conferences, provides an opportunity to examine how to draw benefits from the potential of Open Source and how to integrate free code into its proprietary developments. The 2009 version of this event will allow different virtualisation techniques available on the market to be analysed at the same time, with the secondary theme of data security, as this will become a major factor in the embedded systems of the future. The visitor may also make use of the event to keep themselves up to date on changes in programming techniques, through an approach based on the model (and notably on UML and SySML languages) of the evolution towards real time (with the UML profile for MARTE) In brief, to analyse one of the strongest trends of the next few years: the need to elevate embedded systems from their current level of programming abstraction in order to better manage the levels of complexity which they have reached.
