1 CROSSING POINT CCN DE CAEN BASSE-NORMANDIE / THE POINT - EASTLEIGH

2 Depuis 2012, DanSCe Dialogues 2 imagine un accompagnement franco-anglais des professionnels du secteur de la danse contemporaine (artistes, équipes administratives et techniques, tout professionnel de la diffusion et les pouvoirs publics). De part et d autre de la Manche, huit structures culturelles* les engagent dans des expériences croisées : laboratoires, résidences, coproductions, tournées, stages d observation, diffusions de spectacles, etc. L Europe est toujours un idéal à bâtir et ce projet de coopération n aurait pu être complet sans engager avec nous la nouvelle génération. Partenaires de DanSCe Dialogues 2, The Point (Eastleigh Royaume-Uni) et le Centre Chorégraphique National de Caen/Basse-Normandie (France), ont imaginé Crossing Point afin d inviter les enfants à rêver en commun le monde de demain avec plus de liberté, de créativité et de partage. Comment est-on aujourd hui un enfant vivant en Normandie et au Hampshire? Quelles sont leurs différences? Leurs points communs? Quels rapports entretiennent-ils à nos communautés? Quelles relations à l art? Quels sont leurs points de rencontres, les Crossing points? Réunissant dans chaque pays un groupe restreint (12 enfants anglais, 12 enfants français), nous avons souhaité que la danse, et les arts plus largement, soient le(s) moteur(s) d une aventure humaine et artistique pour s affranchir des barrières quelles qu elles soient : sociales, linguistiques, culturelles, physiques. Au-delà, il nous semblait fondamental que les enfants puissent éprouver l art et développer un regard personnel, en altérité avec le groupe. Et nous avons souhaité privilégier les processus de recherche et de composition, plutôt qu un résultat prédéfini. À notre invitation deux chorégraphes, Laura Simi (FR) et Neil Callaghan (GB) ont exploré avec les enfants les problématiques au cœur de toute appréhension de l inconnu : place / espace, individus / groupe, intérieur (studios) / extérieur (espace public). Les enfants ne pouvaient se rencontrer mais les artistes ont trouvé d amusantes façons de «créer la connexion» entre le groupe français et le groupe anglais : bouteilles à la mer, lancer de ballons, lettres et dessins Guidés par Emma Kerr (en charge de l éducation), les enfants anglais ont eu la chance de visiter le New Art Center (Salisbury) où ils ont découvert des œuvres d art mises en scène dans la campagne. Tandis qu à Caen, les enfants ont investi la collection permanente de l Artothèque, point de départ de leurs improvisations chorégraphiques. DanSCe Dialogues 2 nous a offert l opportunité de rassembler des artistes et un groupe d enfants par une expérience commune et singulière de la danse, du mouvement et de nos cultures. Nous espérons avoir attisé leur curiosité sur la vie, la place de l art et sur le potentiel de la danse à constituer pour eux un formidable moyen de rêver le monde de demain. Since 2012, DanSCe Dialogues 2 has been accompanying Anglo-French professionals in the contemporary dance sector artists, administration and technical teams, producer and tour bookers, as well as government authorities. On both sides of the Channel, eight cultural organizations* were involved in intertwined experiences: laboratories, residences, co-productions, touring, observational workshops, programing of performances, etc. Europe remains an ideal situation in that is still being constructed and developed; this project of cooperation would be incomplete without the engagement of the new generation. The partners in DanSCe Dialogues 2, The Point (Eastleigh, United Kingdom) and the Centre Chorégraphique National de Caen/Basse-Normandie (France), conceived Crossing Point to invite children to dream together about a world of tomorrow with greater liberty, creativity and sharing. What is a child living in Normandy or Hampshire like today? How are they different? What do they share? What connection do they have with their communities? What links and relationships to art? What are the places where they come together the Crossing Points? Bringing a voluntary small group (12 English children, 12 French children) together in each country we want dance, and the arts in general, to become the driving force(s) for a human and artistic adventure of liberation from barriers of every sort: social, linguistic, cultural, physical. Beyond that, it seems essential to us that children can experience art and develop personal perspectives, independent from the group. And we also hope to favour research and composition as process, rather than as a predefined result. We invited two choreographers, Laura Simi (FR) and Neil Callaghan (UK), to explore with the children the issues at the heart of any apprehension of the unknown: place/ space, individual/group, interior (studios)/exterior (public space). It wasn t possible for the two groups of children to meet, but the choreographers found amusing ways to create connection between the French and British groups: casting bottles to the sea, or balloons to the air, letters, drawings Guided by Emma Kerr (Education Officer), the British children were able to visit the New Art Centre (Salisbury), where they discovered art works installed in the countryside. The children from Caen occupied the permanent collection of the Artothèque, starting point for their choreographic improvisations. DanSCe Dialogues 2 offered us the opportunity to bring together artists and a group of children for a singular shared experience of dance, movement, and our cultures. We hope to have kindled their curiosity about life, the place of art, and the potential of dance to constitute for them a great means for dreaming tomorrow s world. 3 Pour nous, la danse n est pas une question de techniques répertoriées, ce qui ne signifie pas qu il n y a ni précision, ni travail. Il nous semble que pour danser, il faut être courageux : solliciter son imagination autant que son corps. En tant qu artistes, nous sommes curieux de comprendre comment les autres peuvent nous aider à mieux nous comprendre. De savoir comment travailler ensemble dans un groupe tout en étant indépendant en même temps. Pour nous, Crossing Point a été un contexte extrêmement riche pour expérimenter ces questions. Nous avions très envie de travailler dans des environnements différents. Ainsi le Land art constituait un point de départ idéal, qui nous invitait à travailler les différentes relations possibles à l espace et les formes sculpturales. C est ce qui nous a permis de définir un langage d abstraction que la danse et le Land art ont souvent en commun. Véritable point de connexion des pratiques et des pensées autour de la danse et des arts contemporains, Crossing Point a créé le désir de construire ensemble : enfants et adultes, anglais et français, danse et arts plastiques, langage et mouvement, écrit et chant, paysages et géographie Laura Simi & Neil Callaghan, chorégraphes For us dance is not about following codified technique. But that does not mean it lacks precision or hard work. We believe that in order to dance we should be courageous: using our imaginations as well as our bodies. As artists we are curious how others can help us to understand ourselves better. We are curious about how to work together as a group while simultaneously remaining fiercely independent. Crossing Points has been a rich context for us to experience these exchanges and questions. We have a deep interest in working in specific environments and therefore the Land Art theme is an exciting departure point for us. This theme invited us to explore spatial relationship and sculptural form. This helped us to delineate an abstract language, something that dance and land art often have in common. 10 La danse est un carrefour de valeurs, elle a une force esthétique et politique. Le corps nous aide à nous souvenir. Laura Simi «La danse est un acte d apprentissage qui nécessite de continuelles variations et validations pour évoluer par rapport à l espace et au temps. Elle est toujours un en dehors sur quoi on doit faire une incessante expérience. Lieux de rencontre, de malentendu, de l accident et de la différence, ce dehors n est en effet rien d autre que le résultat aventureux de l impotence de l âme à rester près d elle.» (Jean-Marc Besse, Voir la terre) Dance is a crossroads of values; its power is both aesthetic and political. The body helps us remember. Laura Simi Dance is an act of apprenticeship that requires constant variation and reassessment in order to move in relationship with space and time. It is always an on the outside one must unceasingly experience and test. Site of encounter, of misunderstanding, of accident, and of distinctive individual identity, this outside is in fact nothing other than the adventurous result of the impotence of the soul to remain near.
