29 2- Significance versus size of the effect Formulation of the result of a statistical test A decision variable is first computed. Then it is tested. In Big Data and Data Reuse, it seems easy to discover good predictive models: data-driven approaches: without hypothesis Absence of Bonferroni s correction Big sample sizes => high significance (even if poor size effect) Overfitting of the model: The models seems to be good in the sample: it is optimized for this particular sample But it could be fortuitous: perhaps another model would have been discovered on another sample Lille University, France
