5 4 PREFACE The ICIME on 2014 in its first edition emphasizes the concern raised by the civil society about the development and the environment. The organization of such a conference in Tunisia will grant the opportunity for the study center and development of the north area of Sfax City to enrich its experience and to help make the good decisions about the development of the coastal zone of the region of sfax. Through its conception and its objectives, the ICIME creates an advantaged space of exchange, interactions and innovation concerning development and concerning environment. Bearing in mind the dangers and the threats caused by the impact of pollution on the fauna and the flora, this kind of demonstration is deemed an opportunity to inquire and confer on the diverse problems in question in order to come closer to finding all possible solutions for it. This edition aims to be on several levels. It is organized in the midst of a new Tunisia with a fast changing sociopolitical, economic, cultural and educational landscape. As a pillar to the progress, the window of development and environment is the bearer of the key to pursue a path of continuous growth towards a promising future. The relevance of the ICIME conference theme from an evidencebased society, to a wide variety of disciplines is reflected in the diverse range of papers that have been submitted for publication. Altogether more than 740 received summaries,issued by 30 different countries, among which only 350 were selected in oral presentations(displays) and posters. The number of submitted papers, along with the number of the participating countries is significantly revealing of the paramount importance of this conference to each individual an each society on a micro level and and to the scientific community and the whole world on a macro level. It is to be noted that a particular attention was granted to the innovative papers which has been concretely applied. Thank you to all those who have contributed to producing such a comprehensive ICIME conference and proceedings and thus contributed to the improvement of the outcome of the development and the environment en masse.
