We are ushered into the inauguration of the Quebec nationalist journey that will become the crux of Lucien Bouchard s political life. Nation delves into critical turning points in former Quebec premier Lucien Bouchard s life, to explain the why behind subsequent historical events, including broken loyalties, how certain obvious dangers could have been avoided, finding joy in seemingly despondent times, and most importantly, how one man embodied, in such a multifaceted way, the one thing that tormented a nation throughout so many years: the perpetuation of its own identity. This feature-length documentary is more than a simple series of flashbacks looking into the past of one of modern Canada s most famous and divisive political figures. Nation is a historical documentary driven by Lucien Bouchard himself, as he comments on and reviews certain events that marked Quebec s turbulent political history and which threatened the unity of Canada. 3 CARL LEBLANC RÉALISATEUR / DIRECTOR Réalisateur et scénariste d une quinzaine de films documentaires depuis 1997 dont trois long-métrages L Otage, prix Historia 2004, Le cœur d Auschwitz (nommé aux Jutra, 2011) et Nation, Huis clos avec Lucien Bouchard (2014). A remporté le prix Gémeaux du meilleur documentaire pour Canada By night en A aussi co-réalisé des séries documentaires dont La boîte noire, prix Gémeaux de la meilleure réalisation en Carl Leblanc has been writing and directing more than fifteen documentary films since Amongst his best work are the three feature documentary films L Otage, which won the Historia Prize in 2004, Le coeur d Auschwitz, which was nominated for a Jutra in 2011 and Nation, huis clos avec Lucien Bouchard (2014). With his film Canada by night, Carl won a Gemini Award for Best Direction in a Documentary Program in He also co-directed many documentary series and won a Gemini Award for Best Direction in a Documentary Series in 2003, with La boîte noire. The creation and operation of 3.14 *Collectif offers its members an alternative to develop their own distribution tool, thus offering an opportunity to deliver short films, documentaries and features films to their respective audiences, whilst improving the visibility of the works which would have been overlooked.
