Spatial and socio-economic context for Geneva In Geneva (as often in Switzerland), living and working environment exceeds the cantonal as well as the national borders
Important population movement between Geneva (canton/city) and France 1) France to Switzerland 1 of 5 jobs in Geneva is occupied by a cross-border worker (Enterprises census 2008) More than 60 000 cross-border workers are working in the canton of Geneva (15% of the population), almost all of them are living in France (STAF, end of 2009)

2) Switzerland to France Every year, at least 2000 persons are leaving the canton of Geneva to establish themselves in France, near the border (estimation OCSTAT) Between 2001 and 2006, 12 000 persons coming from Switzerland established themselves in France (Population census of France 2006)
Urban Audit realization in Geneva : conclusions Geneva : a large experience of the transnational work (Observatoire statistique transfrontalier OST - OCSTAT) Without the French part > no global vision of Geneva Larger Urban Zone (or agglomeration) The transnational Urban Audit for Geneva is launched in Switzerland > coordination between FSO-ARE-OCSTAT-INSEE Approval by Eurostat to create a new Urban Audit level for Geneva : the transnational Larger Urban Zone Good coordination with France INSEE First results in 2010; diffusion on 24th of June 2010 (OST, FSO/ARE)

Realization: difficulties and limits Data from 2 statistical systems (Switzerland, France): Different rhythms of production Domains that are not symmetrically covered Comparability of the data Some missing among the requested-data We also face theses problems in the traditional (national) Urban Audit but they appear more acute at the transnational level.
