1 Australia in France Australian Embassy Newsletter 7 February 2013 Ambassador Ric Wells welcomes Gary Poole and his team to the Australian Embassy, following their punishing race across Europe in the 16 th Monte Carlo Rally. The team, driving a dark green (FX) Holden sedan, set off from Glasgow on Australia Day, 26 January 2013, and completed the race on 1 February. They received an award for being the oldest vehicle to have completed the course, where 50 out of the 300 starters were forced to withdraw. The Australian Embassy in Paris congratulates the team for this remarkable feat and thanks their supporters and sponsors in Australia for making it possible.

2 NEW WEBSITE A MESSAGE FROM THE FRENCH AUSTRALIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY The French-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FACCI) is delighted to announce the launch of a newly created website dedicated to job search, My Australian Job : This project results from an initiative supported by the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FACCI), The French Trade Advisors (CCEF), Ubifrance, under the patronage of the Embassy of France to Australia. The objective of My Australian Job is to propose an adequate and unique platform to the growing number of job seekers (French speakers, as well as other qualified, multi-cultural and multi-lingual professionals) who often contact the FACCI members network as well as of French governmental agencies (Embassy, Consulates, Ubifrance) and associations (Alliance Française network, UFE, AFE) as part of their research. This is also a new service provided to FACCI members and partners who could offer employment opportunities (full-time, part-time, contracting, temporary, WHV, internships) for various functions in diverse industries, especially those suffering from a shortage in skilled workforce. This platform will also assist the French network in Australia to respond to and direct job seekers to this unique job search solution where the flow of applications could be centralised. My Australian Job provides : A cost-free employment service, A streamlined process in reviewing applicants, A database of talented, skilled and motivated job applicants, A highly relevant employment solutions service. We invite you to be one of the first to discover and use this new platform. The website is user-friendly and should respond accurately to your needs. 3 UPCOMING AUCTION/LONDON PREVIEW Bonhams Auctioneers and Valuers in Australia have recently consigned a sale of approximately 280 major paintings and sculpture from one of Australia s most significant private collections of Australian Contemporary Art, the collection of Colin and Elizabeth Laverty (approximately 165 works are Indigenous paintings and a further 115 are non- Indigenous works). Bonhams will be previewing highlights from the sale at their New Bond Street salerooms in London during February, 2013 and the Madison Ave salerooms in New York from the 2-6 March, The works will then be exhibited in Melbourne and Sydney before being sold at Sydney s Museum of Contemporary Art on Sunday 24 March.

6 Luminous Desert Masterpieces from the Helen Read Collection 10 October 2012 to 12 April 2013 The exhibition features 30 contemporary paintings from communities across the vast central and western desert regions, including Walungurru (Kintore), Yuendumu, Utopia and the outstations from where many of the original Papunya Tula artists currently showing at the Musée du quai Branly* - originated. The exhibition at the Australian Embassy in Paris is designed to illustrate how the early painting movement from the 1970s has developed into one of the most significant contemporary art movements of the late 20 th century. A 50 Minute Solo Performance with Dario Costa To book and more information: Call Dario on dario.costa@drama-ties.com NICA graduate wins gold in Paris The Australian Embassy in Paris joins the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) to congratulate 25 year old graduate Lewis West, who won gold at the 34th Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain in Paris. Lewie s impressive and beautiful performance on Straps was up against 25 international acts. His was one of four gold medals awarded by the jury of ten representatives from renowned circus schools and companies, including Cirque du Soleil, from across Europe, Asia and Australia. After graduating from NICA in 2008 and specialising in Straps and Hand Balancing Lewie returned to his hometown of Brisbane to work with cutting-edge contemporary circus company, Circa. Australia was also represented at the Festival by fifteen artists from NICA. Their eight minute performance opened the Festival each evening and wowed audiences attending the prestigious international event. The Festival whose title in English translates to The World Festival of the Circus of Tomorrow took place in Paris from January and is one of the most important circus events of the year. Since 1977 it has presented a broad range of innovative young artists from all over the world. Over the years, the Festival has discovered some of the most extraordinary circus artists and Lewie was selected from a competitive field of 600 applicants. It was at this Festival that another NICA graduate, Emma Henshall, won a gold medal for her daring and graceful swinging trapeze act in NICA acknowledges the many philanthropic supporters, whose generosity has made it possible for young Australian artists and NICA to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform in front of a large international audience.
