5 007 BIENVENUE AU FIPADOC WELCOME TO FIPADOC Le FIPADOC vous accueille pour vous proposer une sélection de documentaires de tout format, de tout genre, de toute forme mais aussi des rencontres professionnelles. Pour cette première édition, nous souhaitons faire découvrir le métier «d impact producer», et l importance de ces nouvelles stratégies de financement et de diffusion de certains films. Nous avons choisi de mettre l Allemagne à l honneur, l occasion de renforcer la coopération entre les créations documentaires allemandes et françaises. Afin de faciliter la coproduction de nouveaux projets, plusieurs séances de pitchs (Pitchs internationaux, Doc à la page!, Premiers films en Région, Pitchs La Fémis) vous seront proposées. Enfin, les groupes de télévision publique (France Télévisions et ARTE) et les partenaires du FIPADOC (Région Nouvelle Aquitaine, ADAMI, SCAM, SACEM, PROCIREP) vous invitent à échanger sur les outils et moyens de la création documentaire. FIPADOC welcomes you to enjoy documentaries in a range of formats, genres, and forms, but also to take part in networking events. In this first edition we are keen to present a new profession: impact producer, and to discuss the importance of new funding and diffusion strategies used for certain films. We are also putting a spotlight on Germany to foster co operation between German and French documentary making. To help facilitate coproduction of new projects, a number of pitching sessions (International pitches, Doc à la page!, Regional first films, La Fémis pitches) will be open to you. Finally, public broadcasters (France Télévisions and ARTE) and FIPADOC s partners the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region; the Society for the Collective Administration of Performer s Rights (ADAMI); the Civil Society of Multimedia Authors (LaScam); the Society of Authors, Composers, and Publishers of Music (SACEM), and the Society of Film and Television Producers (PROCIREP) will host discussions about tools for documentary creation. Les nombreux sites et musées de la ville mettent en avant cette richesse culturelle de façon interactive. Écoutez une visite commentée de la charmante chapelle impériale. Osez gravir les 248 marches du phare. Immergez-vous dans la culture orientale avec le Musée Asiatica. Visitez l église orthodoxe construite entre 1890 et 1892, elle rappelle le lien fort entre la communauté russe de l époque et Biarritz. DISCOVER BIARRITZ Biarritz is proud of its history and its culture but equally, thanks to its cosmopolitan past, it is always receptive to new influences. The numerous sites and museums of the town exemplify this. Listen to the commentary whilst visiting the charming Imperial Chapel. Don t hesitate to climb the 248 steps of the Lighthouse. Immerse yourself in the oriental culture of the Musée Asiatica. Visit the Russian orthodox church built between 1890 and 1892, a symbol of the close-knit Russian community and the inhabitants of Biarritz at that time. Make sure you visit the newly renovated Aquarium de Biarritz, now one of the biggest aquariums in France with its 50 tanks and several thousand species. For the more sporty, the Musée historique du Biarritz Olympique discloses the secrets of its sporting archives dating from 1900 to the present day. In June 2011, as a result of its special relationship with the ocean, Biarritz opened the Cité de l Océan, devoted to the discovery and the protection of the world s seas. As well as the must-see Virtual Surf exhibit, surprising new additions await you: 700 Sharks in the Night, Arctic 4D, and Seaborg. En parallèle, Biarritz, qui entretient une relation privilégiée avec l océan, abrite depuis juin 2011 la Cité de l Océan, espace dédié à la connaissance et à la protection de l océan. ARTE is often referred as the broadcaster for creative documentary. Thanks to its ambitious European co-production policy, ARTE has contributed over the years to the emergence of a strong cluster of talented documentary filmmakers, though it remains complicated for French and German producers to join forces in production. The French and German poles, which equally finance the structure of the channel, do not usually co-produce documentaries together. The Grand Accord Documentaire to come in 2019 is designed to foster co-productions between French and German documentary producers. During this afternoon we will be talking with producers from both sides of the Rhine about this future collaboration, and looking at a few examples of co productions between the two countries. Will also be participating to the panel representatives of the CNC and the FFA, who ll be sharing a number of solutions envisioned to make both funding systems compatible. SCELF is an organization that collects and redistributes royalties to publishers who have sold adaptation rights to their published works. The society organises events to promote audiovisual adaptation such as Shoot the Book! in Cannes, and Rencontres de l Audiovisuel (Audiovisual Encounters) at the Salon du Livre in Paris. A public agency of the French Ministry of Culture, the National Centre for Books (CNL) supports the entire publishing sector: authors, translators, publishers, booksellers, librarians, and event organisers. As a principal partner for those in the book industry, the CNL plays its part in ensuring the diversity and promotion of literary creation. En cette année anniversaire, alors que l Allemagne et la France s imposent comme des acteurs majeurs de la production documentaire européenne, en cette année d élections européennes, il nous a semblé heureux d inviter ce partenaire majeur de la création, d accueillir les rencontres entre producteurs allemands et français partenaires d ARTE, d explorer les mécanismes de soutien au documentaire outre-rhin, d encourager la collaboration entre ces deux territoires et d explorer un répertoire d œuvres puissantes et surprenantes. Wilkommen! : thirty years already! Thirty years since the Berlin wall came down, giving rise to a resolute new Europe. In May 1992, ARTE began broadcasting in French and German speaking European territories, establishing itself as a cultural anchor in what was still known as Western Europe. This anniversary year, in which Germany and France are proving themselves to be major players in European documentary production, and in which European elections are taking place, seemed the perfect time to welcome this major creative partner. Ce stage s adresse en priorité aux professeurs qui produisent de la vidéo ou sont prêts à en produire. Le stage est avant tout une formation sur les formes que prend l écriture audiovisuelle aujourd hui. Au genre documentaire, plus classiquement exploré en classe, s ajoutera une réflexion sur le genre web-documentaire et sur les nouveaux formats de diffusion de l information. Plusieurs rencontres avec des professionnels sont prévues. From one woman to the next, from reality to fantasy, we escape with them into their inner worlds, and their imaginary worlds, moulded by their fear, struggle, and desire. NOTE OF INTENT Perched on the edge of the precipice, I watch as my mother lets herself fall: this image has always haunted and fascinated me. Les Échappées tells the story of this vertigo, of my own fear of falling and abandonment. The siren song of the precipice faced by the women in the Boutik, whose realities prove either too much or too little for them to bear. Through their portrayal I depict this common fear and the way they handle it, blow for blow, until they overcome. Les Échappées raconte l histoire de ce vertige. Celui de la peur de la chute et de l abandon qui est le mien. Celui de l appel du vide auquel font face les femmes de la Boutik dont le réel les contraint trop ou ne leur suffit pas. À travers leur portrait, je raconte cette peur commune, tout comme la manière dont elles y font face coûte que coûte jusqu à l apprivoiser.

Everyone tries to express themselves, and wants to tame their speech that betrays them sometimes, every time, or just when they least expect it. NOTE OF INTENT At a time when eloquence epitomises social status, where speaking well means living well, I wanted to make a film exploring people whose identity is stifled by stammering. In a speech therapist s office, we seek to understand why the mouth sometimes plays tricks or why the body locks up; and we work to remedy it. Here, we follow those for whom every conversation is a battle. Those for whom an agonising social death can be a reality. Dans le bureau de l orthophoniste, on tente de comprendre pourquoi parfois la bouche démissionne, le corps s enraye et on travaille. Dans cet endroit, il s agit de ceux pour qui parler avec l autre, c est devoir l affronter. Des gens pour qui, la mort sociale est aussi, parfois, une éventualité.

This closed-off world seems suspended in time, as the same gestures are repeated over and over again. Outside of ordinary language, unique relationships are forged: on one hand, verbal and gestural extra communication; on the other, silence, movements at times barely perceptible, dilated pupils, or a laugh. NOTE OF INTENT This documentary will be a portrait of the Life Unit, filmed in Direct Cinema style in a closed-door setting. By following the day-to-day life of the caregivers, I intend to capture the sensitivity they extend to their patients to make us forget these bedridden bodies and gradually bring them to life. This virtually one-sided relationship between caregivers and patients raises questions of humanity. It pushes us to reconsider our relationship to otherness and the very essence of communication. En suivant les soignants au quotidien, j aimerais saisir le regard sensible qu ils posent sur les patients, pour nous faire oublier ces corps alités et qu ils reprennent peu à peu vie. Cette relation presque unilatérale entre soignants et patients soulève des interrogations concernant l humain. Elle nous pousse à reconsidérer notre rapport à l altérité, à l essence même de la communication.

This film attempts neither to hide nor to overemphasise the dependence of elderly people. It aims to discuss old age accurately and without taboos.
