Teaching notes This is a revision card game based on Happy Families. You will need to copy and cut up one set of playing cards for each group of four to six students. The aim of the game is for students to collect as many complete families (in this case, sets of five cards from the same infinitive) as they can in the time available. The individual verb on each card is the one given in bold italics, while the family name is the infinitive in capitals at the top of each card. The dealer in each group should shuffle the pack and deal out five to ten cards to each player, depending on the size of the group. Any remaining cards (the pioche ) are placed face-down in a pile in the middle of the table. Students need to hide their cards from their fellow players. The dealer starts by asking another player for a card needed to complete a family. If the other player has the card, it must be handed over. The first player can continue asking anyone for cards until a mistake is made, at which point they can take a card from the pioche. Play then proceeds in a clockwise direction. Any player can retake the cards taken in previous rounds. When a player gathers a set of six cards in the same topic family, the set must be placed face down on the table in front of him/her. The player who collects the most sets is the winner (within the time you have allotted to the game). The following useful phrases can be projected to encourage students to play in French: À moi / À toi. Dans la famille je voudrais s il te plaît. Voilà! My turn / Your turn In the family, I would like please. Here you go! Merci. Thanks. Encore. Again. Pioche. Go fish (pick up from the stack). Désolé(e), non. Sorry, no. une famille! I have a family! Je gagne / gagné! I m winning / I ve won! www.teachitlanguages.co.uk 2015 23567 Page 1 of 6
