1 st year - fall semester - in english Courses DESCRIPTIONS ACCOUNTING / ECONOMICS / FINANCE / MANAGEMENT / MARKETING Business Organization and Systems Lecturer: David MORIEZ ECTS Credits: 4 Year of Study: 1 Semester: Fall Pre-Requisites This course is for Year 1 students with undergraduate general knowledge from L1 to L3. Course Summary In an increasingly difficult environment with adaptability and reactivity being both essential to a company s survival, we can no longer consider the organization from the exclusive economic perspective. We need to identify and know the concrete interactions between the actors and their environment. The company is multidimensional, it is a system. Thus, all its dimensions should be considered at the same time. We need to develop a comprehensive approach of the business (the macroscope of Joel de Rosnay) and a sound understanding of the company as a whole ( the whole is higher than the sum of the parts, Edgar Morin). In the 40s to meet these new imperatives scientists and researchers started to use systemic analysis. Course Objectives Business organization is one of the essential conditions to the survival of the system: structure, task distribution, setting objectives, defining and choosing resources are only a few of the essential aspects that every future manager must be aware of and take into consideration. A company must adopt a modus operandi which will make it possible for everyone to be better aligned with its strategy and to contribute to the overall success of the activity. Consequently, the objectives of our course are to: Know the external and internal environments of the firm Understand global and sub systems Identify the principal functions and their interactions Diagnose the fundamental causes of dysfunction Develop capacities of critical analysis and formulate solutions.
