Elementary French I exams will test your skills in familiar ways, if you attend class regularly and take seriously your work with the textbook. I also suggest that you have a notebook where you write down all the conjugations of the verbs and the new vocabulary for each chapter. Quizzes (Interrogation) will be given very often during the semester; at least one per chapter. These can consist of vocabulary, grammar, and listening comprehension exercises. Exams: There will be an exam for each of each chapter that we will cover. Compositions: There will one or two compositions to be done in-class. Non-written and Written homework: You will be asked to prepare written homework assignments. They are to be completed before you arrive in class. Failure to do so will result in a loss of points. If you are asked to prepare an activity for the following class, I expect that it be done. If you come unprepared it will effect your participation grade. The Final Exam is comprehensive and follows the format used for chapter exams. Learning a language is comprehensive in nature. What you have learned in the first weeks of the course cannot be forgotten as you move in the second semester. This being said, the chapter exams will focus principally on the material most recently covered in the course. However, the final exam will be comprehensive. Some review sheets will be provided.
Attendance: Excessive absences or regular tardiness will lower your final grade. If you are habitually tardy (more than five minutes late), at least four times, it will result in an absence being added to your total. You are allowed four absences this semester. This does not include exam days If you miss more than four classes for ANY reason other than extenuating circumstances (see below), your final grade average will be lowered by 2 points (out of 100) for every class you miss (up to a maximum of 10 points). Students with disabilities.
