3 Freddie for a Day 2015 L édition 2014 de ces journées de prévention a rencontré un très grand succès. Pour cette 2 ème édition, organisée à nouveau par les collaborateurs et les étudiants de l Hotel Institute Montreux et de la Swiss Hotel Management School, les autorités montreusiennes vous invitent à participer activement aux nombreuses activités proposées, notamment à la vente aux enchères destinée à récolter des fonds pour la Fondation Mercury Phoenix Trust, coorganisatrice de l événement. Sensibiliser les jeunes aux problèmes du SIDA et des addictions par le biais d une grande fête, associant stands d information et manifestations culturelles gratuites, est un très beau défi relevé par le Swiss Education Group que je remercie encore pour cette initiative caritative, festive et responsable. 5 MESSAGE FROM HIM STUDENTS The students of HIM are very proud to collaborate with the Mercury Phoenix Trust with the objective of educating people about the issues of HIV and STDs. The aim of the HIM students is to amaze all the participants of the Freddie for a Day Festival by providing awesome entertainment, delicious food from different cultures together with a high standard service! Throughout the entire year, the student body has organized different fundraising events that have not only raised funds for the trust, but have also increased awareness about these issues. We would like to thank the Mercury Phoenix Trust and the Swiss Education Group for giving us the opportunity to contribute towards solving these important worldwide concerns. Freddie For A Day is a fundraising event in aid of the Mercury Phoenix Trust which encourages friends and fans from around the world to celebrate the life of the iconic singer and raise awareness and funds in his memory. The event takes place all over the world and the numbers are growing each year. It is essential that we lift awareness and provide support for the education of the underprivileged about infectious diseases in order to help them in their continued struggle to fight STD s worldwide. We, at SHMS are pleased to be part of this event taking place in Montreux, Switzerland. Our goal is to provide the participants of this event with the first class hospitality that goes hand in hand with our reputation at SEG. 7 THE SWISS EDUCATION GROUP The Swiss Education Group is proud to invite you to the 2nd Freddie for a Day Festival in Montreux on the 16th & 17th May The weekend festivities are based around the theme of prevention, in particular of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases. We aim to raise awareness around these important issues while enjoying music, having fun and raising charity funds for the Mercury Phœnix Trust. This free event, suitable for families of all ages, is organised by the students & staff of HIM, Hotel Institute Montreux & SHMS, Swiss Hotel Management School in Caux. This diverse team, representing more than 120 nationalities, are proud to present their hospitality & business skills in running this charity event. Last year students, staff, guests, invited musicians and over 8000 members of the public came together to support a great cause, to celebrate, and most importantly to have fun! We managed to raise CHF26,000 and funds raised went to charity projects in Cameroon, Malawi, South Africa, Kenya, India, Nepal, Lesotho & Madagascar. Of course we could not create this event alone and we have received incredible support once again this year from the city of Montreux, Mercury Phœnix Trust, Antaé, The Montreux Jazz Festival, and all our generous donators and sponsors from the region and beyond. Most importantly it is members of the public who participate, donate generously, dance, smile and enjoy themselves who make this a very special weekend for us all. Le plus important encore ce sont les membres du public qui participent, font généreusement des dons, dansent, sourient et s amusent, faisant ainsi de ce moment un week-end très spécial pour nous tous. 10 HIM STUDENTS ADVERTISING PROJECT I m delighted to reveal the story behind the advertising campaign for the 2 nd Freddie for a Day festival. At Hotel Institute Montreux, our students that choose to study marketing as a specialization do a deep dive into the world of advertising. However, it s one thing to learn about advertising from a book - and another thing entirely to do it for real! Thanks to Mr. Rondez, our CEO and the driving force behind SEG s involvement in Freddie for a Day, our students got to experience a taste of real life in the advertising world - the team work, the creative process, the euphoria that comes with hitting upon that big idea, along with the stress, deadlines and late nights that are part and parcel of this industry. This term their real life challenge was to design an integrated advertising campaign for the 2 nd Freddie For A Day festival taking place in Montreux this weekend. In multi cultural teams, with minimal professional input and tight deadlines, they were tasked to deliver. And deliver they did! I am very proud of all five teams who came up with the beautiful ideas you can see in the following pages. And I am extremely proud of Nina (Germany), Mercedes (Spain) and Andhika (Indonesia), Stefano (Peru) and Salvatore (Italy) who came up with the winning Ready Freddie concept that you see on the front cover of this program. The team really impressed the judges with their passion - for Queen, for Freddie Mercury, the Mercury Phoenix Trust and for the assignment itself. They had a strong story behind the poster design and their slogan of Ready Freddie. And they delivered like true professionals. I hope their campaign inspires you to join us and enjoy this weekend together for a great cause. Are you Ready for Freddie?! Aileen Woulfe Lecturer, Marketing, Hotel Institute Montreux PROJET EN COMMUNICATION DES ETUDIANTS DE HIM Je suis ravie de vous dévoiler l histoire qui se cache derrière la campagne de communication de cette 2 ème édition du Festival Freddie For A Day. Au sein de l Hotel Institute Montreux, nos étudiants qui choisissent de se spécialiser en marketing, s immergent totalement dans le monde de la communication. Cependant, c est une chose d apprendre la publicité dans les livres - et cela en est une autre de le faire en vrai! Grâce à M. Rondez, notre CEO et le véritable moteur de l implication de SEG dans l évènement Freddie for A Day, nos élèves ont pu appréhender la réalité du monde de la publicité - le travail d équipe, le processus créatif, l euphorie quand on trouve LA «grande idée», mais aussi le stress, les délais et les nuits blanches qui font partie intégrante de ce métier. Ce trimestre, leur grand défi était de concevoir une campagne publicitaire intégrée pour la 2 ème édition du festival Freddie For A Day qui aura lieu ce week-end à Montreux. Au sein d équipes multiculturelles, avec une aide professionnelle minimale et des délais serrés, nous leur avons demandé de délivrer un vrai projet. Et ils ont réussi! Je suis extrêmement fière de ces cinq équipes qui ont généré les magnifiques concepts que vous pouvez voir dans les pages suivantes. Et je suis extrêmement fière de Nina (Allemagne), Mercedes (Espagne), Andhika (Indonésie), Stefano (Pérou) et Salvatore (Italie) qui ont créé le concept gagnant «Ready Freddie» en première page de couverture de ce programme. Ils ont raconté une très belle histoire dans le concept de l affiche et de leur slogan «Ready Freddie». Et ils ont atteint l objectif comme de vrais professionnels. 17 MONTREUX JAZZ CAFÉ - WINE LABEL PROJET Another creative assignment took place recently at HIM, Hotel Institute Montreux by the Term 5 marketing specialization students. The challenge was to create a pair of red and white wine labels for the signature wines of La Cave Vevey-Montreux, supplier to the Montreux Jazz Cafés around the world at Zurich & Geneva airports, Harrod s department store in London, Paris Gare de Lyon, Abu Dhabi and of course at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace Hotel. As the creative agency pitching for the business, our students were challenged to formulate and deliver a proposal that a) appealed to cosmopolitan wine lovers and b) complemented the Jazz Café concept. The winning group comprised Sue Song, Jessica Pan, Elaine Wu and Claire Qin - aka ELLES - who convinced the judging panel (which included Mr. Buri, COO Montreux Jazz International, Mr. Lilla et Mr. Beretta of La Cave Vevey-Montreux, Mr. Karlstrom, Managing Director, Magic Pencil Creative Communications and Mr. Rondez, CEO SEG) with their creative concept, their label design and their excellent pitch. The winning concept will now be used in all Jazz Cafés around the world for a period of 1 year. I would like to sincerely thank Mr. Rondez, Mr. Buri, Mr. Lilla and Mr. Beretta for the opportunity to work on such a challenging and interesting campaign with my students. The education gained from such a «real» experience goes way beyond anything that can be read in a textbook and we are very grateful for their trust and generosity. Le défi était de créer les étiquettes de vins rouge et blanc pour les vins «signatures» de la Cave Vevey-Montreux. Celle-ci est fournisseur des Montreux Jazz Cafés dans le monde, notamment dans les aéroports de Zürich et Genève, les magasins Harrod s à Londres, à Abu Dhabi, la Gare de Lyon à Paris et bien sûr au Fairmont Le Montreux Palace Hotel. Sur la base du cahier des charges de l agence de création, le défi proposé aux étudiants était de délivrer une offre qui a) interpelle les amateurs de vins cosmopolites et b) s intègre dans le concept des Jazz Cafés. L équipe gagnante était composée de Sue Song, Jessica Pan, Elaine Wu Qin et Claire - aka «ELLES». Elle a convaincu le jury composé de M. Buri, COO Montreux Jazz international, M. Lilla et M. 16 Beretta de La Cave Vevey-Montreux, M. Karlstrom, Directeur Général, Crayon Magique Creative Communications et M. Rondez, CEO SEG avec leur concept créatif, le design de leurs étiquettes et leur formidable argumentaire. Le concept gagnant sera maintenant déployé pendant un an dans tous les Montreux Jazz Cafés This wine label was designed by students from HIM, a leading Swiss hospitality school and featured in Montreux Jazz Cafés around the world. The annual design competition is run in partnership with the Montreux Jazz Festival and La Cave Vevey-Montreux. Ici, les gens se croisent et s échangent des mots, des vérités, des confessions sans tabou. Ici, les masques tombent, les langues se délient. Ici, on se montre tel que l on est ou tel que l on voudrait être ; fantasmes non réalisés, désirs inachevés ou envie de destins extraordinaires. C est l histoire de la vie d une divine rousse façon Jessica Rabbit. Nous traversons les années 70, 80 et 2000, pour y reconnaître des attitudes-clichées et autres idées reçues sur la sexualité, les sexualités. Hommes, Femmes, que vous veniez de Mars ou Vénus, savourez vos différences Chant, danse, musique-live, vidéo : Le monde est un grand cabaret... sexuel! Entre rire et émotion, prévention et information, ce spectacle donne à réfléchir, à rêver. L idée du «Cabaret sexuel» est le fruit de la rencontre de 2 mondes : celui du spectacle (compagnie Miranda) et de la prévention (mutualité française, Sida Info Service, Planning Familial, Mutuelles étudiantes). Deux mondes qui à l unissons veulent proposer de parler autrement de la, des sexualités pour toucher les jeunes. Le théâtre est vivant, il touche, émeut, et illustre la vie de notre société, rendant vivantes les notions de prévention. En 1995, date de sa création à Nice, la compagnie compte 5 salariés, elle en regroupe aujourd hui plus de 30 (dont 3 permanents). 4 axes d intervention : Elle développe 4 grands axes qui se rejoignent régulièrement et s enrichissent mutuellement : L affirmation de sa spécificité de travail de troupe, et notamment à travers la programmation et la gestion d une salle de 180 places à Nice : le théâtre de la Cité. Sa spécificité de mise en scène, le baroque et le contemporain : le baroque foisonnant des premières pièces reste présent mais tend à s épurer au fil des mises en scènes. C est notre «touche» : associer le «baroque» à une inspiration aujourd hui plus épurée Le développement des offres de formations artistiques professionnelles à Nice avec des grands noms du théâtre, (Jean-Claude Penchenat, Christophe Marchand, Paul Chiributa, Alain Gautré, Mario Gonzalez) Les actions éducatives, sociales et préventives. 21 SEG STUDENT - STAFF BAND As per the first Freddie For A Day Festival, last year, students and staff from Swiss Hotel Management School, Hotel Institute Montreux and SEG have come together to also perform live music at this second edition of FFAD. They have been making time alongside their fulltime studies and work to put together an entertaining set of songs so you can Get Down On Saturday Night This year, their theme is «100 YEARS OF POP MUSIC IN 8 SONGS», giving the opportunity for the many hidden talents to shine, and bringing joy to the weekend away from everyday school life. Singing songs that make you smile and dance, from Ragtime to Southern Blues, Rock N Roll to Rock N Soul, Latin Pop to Glam Rock, and Americana to Funk Pop. Something for everybody. Les étudiants ont préparé, en parallèle de leurs études à plein temps, une sélection de chansons qui vous permettront de vous lâcher samedi soir... Leur thème, cette année, est «100 ANS DE POP MUSIC EN 8 CHANSONS», ce qui offrira l occasion aux nombreux talents cachés de briller, et d apporter de la joie lors d un week-end loin de la vie quotidienne de l école. 22 THE SHOW MUST GO ON QUEEN BY COVERQUEEN Le 24 novembre 1991, Freddie MERCURY nous quitte : c est la fin d un immense groupe de rock et le commencement d un mythe. Les prouesses et le jeu scénique de Freddie ont fortement marqué Frederick CARAMIA, qui débute sa carrière de chanteur à l âge de seize ans, en reprenant entre autres les «incontournables» de QUEEN. Après une solide formation lyrique, il décide en 2006 de créer «COVERQUEEN» avec son frère, Alexandre, lui même batteur et chanteur. Les premiers concerts ont généré beaucoup d enthousiasme auprès des fans de QUEEN. C est donc sans mal qu ils parviennent à compléter leur équipe de précieux musiciens. Un bassiste professionnel solide, Morgan MICHAUD dit «Morgus» et un guitariste fidèle aux solos de Brian MAY, Adrien HUSSON, rejoignent les frères CARAMIA. C est Raphaël DONADIEU, pianiste professionnel qui complète le line up. Bien plus qu un groupe de reprises, ces 5 jeunes talents véhiculent et prolongent l esprit «QUEEN». Ils se sont produits devant plus de personnes à Nice, ont investi des salles comme le Sporting de Monte Carlo, le Zénith de Caen ou celui de Montpellier. Ils sont actuellement considérés comme LE Tribute Band Français de QUEEN. À l occasion des 20 ans de la disparition de Freddie MERCURY, ils ont rendu un magnifique Hommage au Bataclan à Paris le 24 novembre Ils étaient en tournée internationale en 2013 et Nouveau show en 2015! 23 with Gwen & Tiana est un duo vocal aux influences afro-américaines. C'est à travers leur collaboration au sein de différents projets musicaux soul, gospel et jazz qu'ils se rencontrent et décident de créer ce duo. Ils partagent la scène, aussi bien en tant que chanteurs lead que backing vocalist sur certains projets. Sur leur route, ils croisent et accompagnent des artistes aussi bien locaux qu internationaux (Stevie Wonder, Paloma Faith, Derrick McKenzie, Ledzek Modzer, Martha High, Maceo Parker Band, Mounir Hössn ). 26 nikolas metaxas Characterized as a blend of Brandon Boyd, old school John Mayer and a young Elvis Costello, Nikolas has something about him that just makes you listen! Nikolas Metaxas established his vocal chops on the hit TV-Show, X-Factor (Greece) impressing millions. Shortly after earning 2 nd place on the show, he went on to represent Cyprus as a composer in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, with the song Firefly (Sony - BMG) topping many itunes charts across Europe. Thought provoking songwriting, inspiring vocal chops and growing fan-base and online presence prove Nikolas is here to stay. With two records already under his belt, Nikolas is focusing on writing and performing on diverse projects ranging from the EDM funky trio CHROMA, to his own indie project titled FEATHERWHITE. Her simplicity captures you immediately and soon you realize that behind the pure angelic face and beautiful brown piercing eyes christina metaxa hides a brilliant, driven, sensitive and talented young woman, who likes to think that choice is never harder than the heart allows. Christina finds her voice, predominantly as a writer of poetry as well as children s stories and adventures. In 2009, she published the first of seven stories of her children s book Φιδάκης Αμυαλάκης, Snakey No-BrainKey and is currently working on completing a novella in poetic form. In the same year and at the young age of 16, Christina finds herself on stage in Moscow, Eurovision 2009 singing for her country, Cyprus, a song composed entirely for her by her beloved brother Nikolas Metaxas. Firefly, is the name of the song and it becomes an anthem for the youth; a cry for courage, faith, and curiosity for life and love. As she continues to pursue a path in education and creative writing, Christina likes to sing, and always will, in search for laughter and connection. She is currently a student at Brown University, USA, where she is graduating from this spring, 25 May 2015, with promises, and passion for the world!
