3 Welcome to Airports Canada 2011! On behalf of the Canadian Airports Council Board of Directors, I welcome you to the Airports Canada 2011 Conference and Exhibition. Our theme for this event is Piloting Through Clearer Skies, which reflects the return to growth mode enjoyed at most of our member airports throughout the country. It is recognized by all that we continue to operate in a volatile industry. Recent events such as in the Middle East and Japan not only disrupted aviation in those parts of the world, they also have had an impact on matters like oil prices in North America. This rapidly changing dynamic of our industry will frame our discussions over the next two days. Our conference takes place on the eve of an event right here in Canada with the potential to further impact our industry: A federal election. Indeed, we do not yet know the political environment in which we will operate two weeks from now, let alone two months from now. Our conference is held on a two-year cycle and much has changed and will change since our last conference, all of which warrants discussion. Over the coming days we aim to stimulate the mind and provide a comfortable forum in which to network with your industry colleagues. Au nom du conseil d administration du Conseil des aéroports du Canada, j ai le plaisir de vous souhaiter la bienvenue au congrès-exposition Aéroports Canada L événement de cette année a pour thème Piloter dans des ciels plus clairs, un thème qui reflète le retour en mode croissance de la plupart de nos aéroports membres à travers le pays. Il faut toutefois reconnaître que nous continuons d évoluer dans une industrie volatile. Des événements récents comme ceux au Japon et au Moyen-Orient ont non seulement perturbé l aviation dans ces parties du monde, ils ont aussi eu un impact sur des composantes économiques comme les prix du pétrole en Amérique du Nord. Cette dynamique très changeante de notre industrie encadrera nos discussions des deux prochains jours. Notre congrès se déroule la veille d un événement qui est lui aussi susceptible d avoir un impact sur notre industrie : les élections fédérales. En effet, nous ne connaissons pas encore l environnement politique avec lequel nous devront composer dans deux semaines, et encore moins dans deux mois. Notre congrès étant tenu tous les deux ans, bien des choses ont changé depuis sa dernière édition, ce qui nous donnera amplement de sujets de discussion. Au cours des prochains jours, nous viserons à stimuler ces discussions et à offrir un forum confortable où vous pourrez réseauter avec vos confrères de l industrie.
