Robert Boulé a été nommé directeur principal Télécommunications au groupe Technologie en novembre Dans le cadre de ses fonctions, il dirige l ensemble des activités liées à l exploitation, à la maintenance et à l évolution du vaste réseau de télécommunications d Hydro-Québec, le plus important réseau privé de ce type au Canada. English Bio: Mr. Robert Boulé was appointed General Manager Telecommunications for Hydro- Québec s Groupe Technologie in November In this capacity, he manages all operations, maintenance and development activities related to Hydro-Québec s extensive telecommunications network, the largest private network of its kind in Canada. With Hydro-Québec since 1991, Mr. Boulé has acquired considerable experience in telecommunications and technological innovation related to hydroelectricity. 2 English Bio: Champlain Landry has been Manager Smart Grid Technology at Hydro-Quebec's research institute (IREQ) since March In this capacity, he coordinates the activities of the smart grid innovation program, which aims to modernize the power grid, moving toward greater intelligence and autonomy. The program's activities are conducted in close cooperation with Hydro-Québec experts in information and communication technologies and the company's business divisions. Partners from industry, universities and research centres are also involved in the program. Mr. Landry holds a bachelor s degree and a master s degree in mechanical engineering from McGill University. He joined Hydro-Québec's research institute (IREQ) in 2001 as a researcher in the field of power transmission equipment diagnosis. In 2009, he was appointed Manager Transmission Technology. His responsibilities included coordinating the portfolio of innovation projects that IREQ runs hand in hand with Hydro-Québec's TransÉnergie division. He held that position until March 2013, when he assumed new duties as Manager Smart Grid Technology. He is a member of l Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. English Bio: Tony O Hara is the Executive Director of Transmission and Distribution for NB Power. He is a certified Professional Technologist as well as a Registered Professional Engineer and is a member of a number of Canadian Electricity Association and Canadian Standards Association committees. Tony has worked with NB Power for the past 24 years in various roles primarily in the Engineering and Operations area. In Tony s current role he is responsible for Transmission and Distribution Asset Management, System Planning, Technical Services, Design Engineering, Work methods and Training, Compliance and Environment, Transmission Operations Engineering, and Distribution System Operations. Prior to joining Hydro One, Colin held management positions with systems integration firms where he focused on control systems, cyber security, project delivery, and customer systems business process management. Colin holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Queen s University in Ontario, Canada. SPEAKER: Trepanier Session: Le Réseau national intégré de radiocommunications (RENIR): une plate-forme voix et données partagée par la sécurité publique et les services publics / Québec s National Integrated Radiocommunication Network (RENIR): A Voice and Data Platform Shared for Public Safety and Public Works French Bio: Gaétan Trépanier est ingénieur sénior dans le domaine des télécommunications. Gradué de l Université Laval en 1985, il compte 28 années d expérience dans le domaine des communications mobiles voix et données au gouvernement du Québec. Après avoir travaillé à la conception des réseaux de radiocommunication en début de carrière, il fût à l origine du déploiement du Service de radiotransmission de données gouvernemental (Service RTD) combinant, de façon évolutive et complémentaire, l utilisation de réseaux gouvernementaux de transmission de données sans fil et des différents réseaux cellulaires disponibles sur le territoire québécois. Trépanier est actuellement responsable de l intégration et de l architecture des systèmes du RENIR; il agit de plus à titre de conseiller expert auprès de la direction concernant les orientations et l évolution des systèmes de radiocommunication au gouvernement du Québec. English Bio: Gaétan Trépanier is a senior telecommunications engineer. A graduate of Laval University in 1985, he has some 28 years of experience in the area of voice and data mobile communications within the Québec government. He started his career in radio communication network design then spearheaded the deployment of the government mobile data radio transmission service (called «Service de radiotransmission de données gouvernemental» - RTD), combining, in a complementary fashion over time, the use of the government wireless data transmission network and various cellular networks available throughout the province. Today, the RTD service serves a number of Québec departments and agencies involved in public safety and public works. Mr. Trépanier is currently responsible for the integration and architecture of the RENIR systems. He also provides expert advice to the government on matters concerning orientation and evolution of the radio communication systems in the Québec government. SPEAKER: Geiger Session: Building Smart Loads for Energy Optimization in the Digital Age English Bio: Rick Geiger has been with Cisco for 7 years, formerly as Director of Engineering in Cisco s Physical Security Business Unit. Prior to joining Cisco, Mr. Geiger was VP Engineering for GE Security in Physical Security, video surveillance and access control. Rick has in depth experience in the global utility market with more than 10 years as VP Engineering and Chief Technical Officer for Itron. Presently Executive Director for Utilities and Smart Grid, on Cisco s Business Transformation Team, Rick and the Smart Grid Vertical Team serve the Americas Utility markets with Secure, Resilient and Scalable network solutions for smart grid, advanced metering, distribution automation, utility telemetry and energy management. Rick is on the Gridwise Alliance Board of Directors and an IEEE Senior Member and Member of the Power and Energy Society. SPEAKER: Nerandzic Session: Sécurité public et l'évolution du réseau / Network technology evolution and public safety English Bio: Dragan Nerandzic has held the role of Chief Technology Officer at Ericsson Canada since June of He joined Ericsson Canada in 2001 as Director of Technical Strategy, leading the team responsible for providing wireless and wire line solutions to Canadian operators. Previous to his current role Mr. Nerandzic held the role of Vice President, Network Systems. Prior to joining Ericsson, Mr. Nerandzic was responsible for wireless technology planning and strategy at a major Canadian wireless operator. He actively participated in standardization and industry organizations including 3GPP2, TIA and CDG. Mr. Nerandzic also had responsibilities for engineering design of analog and digital mobile networks. Prior to joining the telecommunications industry Mr. Nerandzic worked at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Belgrade where he held various teaching and research roles in areas of fixed and mobile networks. He holds a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications and Computer Networks, Protocols and Switching, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Belgrade. During her previous assignment at Finance Canada she worked on the Government of Canada s budget for She was first recruited to the Federal Government in the International Division in the department of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. Ms. Brown has a Masters in International Affairs from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University and B.A. in Political Science from the University of Ottawa. Katz provides enterprise-wide governance and oversight of wireless telecommunications products, services and technology for the Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) family of companies. He plans, implements and manages projects involving wireless technology, conducts FCC compliance audits and acts as PSEG s Wireless compliance Advisor under PSEG s Enterprise Governance Practice Active in the Utilities Telecom Council (UTC) since 1985, M. Katz has chaired the Meetings Advisory Committee, the Education and Training Task Force, the UTC Journal Editorial Advisory Board, the Homeland Security Committee, the Member Services Division and the Public Policy Division. Mr. Katz also chaired UTC Region 2 (Middle Atlantic) for 12 years. Jeff was elected in 2008 by UTC s members as UTC s Vicechairman and in 2009 as UTC s Chairman. He remains a member of UTC s Board of Directors and a member of UTC s Leadership Advisory council. As a recognized industry expert on telecommunications systems utilized by critical infrastructure entities, Jeff has testified on the industry s behalf before the FCC and before the House/Senate joint Homeland Security committee, the House Government Reform Committee, and the House Energy and Commerce committee. He also has provided expert guidance to the committee s majority and minority staffs. UTC nominated Jeff to serve on the FCC s Emergency Response Interoperability Center (ERIC) Public Safety Advisory Committee. Jeff also is a member of APCO, the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International, Inc. He currently serves on 3 APCO committees: The Spectrum Management committee, the Bylaws Committee and the Project 33 Call Center Standards Training Certification Committee. Jeff has served 2 terms as mayor of his community and 9 years as a member of the community s governing body. Since 1968, he serves his town as an armed auxiliary police officer. He currently is a Lieutenant in its Patrol Division in charge of a squad of 9 officers. Jeff also is certified as a police academy instructor by New Jerseys Police Training Commission and currently instructs evening classes at the Essex County Po9lice Academy. Jeff earned a BEng (Electrical Engineering) from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ and a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law, Newark, NJ. Jeff is admitted to practice in the courts of the state of New Jersey, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He consults primarily on complex RF and corporate strategy using systems for machine-to-machine communication networks. Michael s work involves technologies such as WiMAX, LTE, microwave, satellite, optical fibre, two-way radio, and coaxial cabling used for machine-to-machine communications. For the past eight years, he has provided business and technical guidance to the Energy and Utility sector on smart meter and smart grid projects in Canada, United States, China, Japan, United Kingdom, Ireland, Hong Kong, Mauritania, Singapore, Jamaica, Barbados, Aruba, Curacao, South Africa, Brazil, Netherlands, and Australia. He is a dedicated life-long learner currently pursing a third Masters degree. He holds advanced graduate degrees in business and communications as well as three diplomas and five certificates in a variety of subjects focused on communication and media technologies. He has presented at over 100 conferences and authored numerous articles, two book chapters, and several business and technical white papers. In 1999, he joined the Transmission Department and became responsible for the standardization of automation systems solutions in Hydro-Quebec substations. Today, Pierre is in charge of a team dedicated to implementing future proof automation solutions for Hydro-Quebec substations. A project regarding the migration of Hydro-Quebec s in-house substation automation system to a new system based on the IEC standard is under planning. While new technical solutions will be based on converging technologies (digital systems and communications), the main challenge the management is faced with, is the organizational change required because of such use of network communication technologies within the substation building as well as in the outside switchyard. Pierre is a Canadian representative working on the IEC TC 57 WG10 which is responsible for maintaining the IEC standard. He is currently the editor of the IEC standard.
