2 Qu'est-ce que c'est un verbe? - A verb is a word that expresses an action. - When learning a language it is important to learn the difference between the infinitive and conjugated forms of a verb.

3 L'infinitif - The infinitive of a verb is not bound by time (infinity). - This means that the verb has no tense (present, past, etc) - In French the infinitives of verbs have three different endings: ER / IR / RE

4 Les conjugaisons - Conjugation anchors verbs in time. This means that they are assigned a tense (past, present, future, etc) - Today we are going to look at the present conjugations for regular verbs of all three types in French (er, ir, re)

7 La conjugaison en français To conjugate verbs in French we follow two simple steps. First you take the root of the verb (derived from the infinitive) and then you add the appropriate ending.

8 Oh la vache! There are different endings for each subject and for each tense! Here are some rules and tips to help you.

9 On attaque! - The first step is to find the root (la racine). - Just take off the last two letters of the infinitive form (er, ir, re) PARLER FINIR VENDRE

30 Ne découragez pas! It sounds complicated and irregular verbs make it even more difficult. But once you have the roots for a verb you just have to learn the patterns. And thankfully they tend to follow certain patterns that you will come to recognize.
