1 Q&A with AmCham s Top Women Paloma Castro is Director, Global Corporate Affairs, at LVMH. I wanted to join a challenging and dynamic environment. Meritocracy Variety Team Work What does your company do to address under representation of women? LVMH offers loads of initiatives to encourage women advancement and network (eg ELLEVMH). What is your top advice for young talents on International Women s Day? Hard work Clear objectives Enjoy the differences in our skills versus men's Our CEO, for his intelligence and his curiosity.

2 Corinne Colloc h is the Head of Corporate Development at Airbus Group. My motivation was to join industry. I liked the idea of participating to the manufacturing of a real product. And this is what makes me passionate about Airbus years after. Our motto is we make it fly and it is true that we have kind of the smarter products. More than you can imagine, especially for women with an engineering background but not only (and I am not myself an engineer!). Our group offers a wide range of jobs and I had different functions, in HR, Audit, M&A, Business Development, and now Strategy. What does your company do to address under representation of women? A lot even if we are not yet best in class. It starts with promoting our jobs in engineering school; ensuring the recruitment of at least 20% women; ensuring through KPI, that women are equally treated in terms of salary and promotion. Top management role model is also very important. Airbus group has now a woman at its board (Anne Lauvergeon) and our CEO is taking care of diversity in his team. What is your top advice for young talents on International Women s Day? Act professional. Don t be shy and be self-confident. Usually it makes the difference. Women do not dare enough. They always want to fulfill 100% of a job before applying for it. There are so many outstanding engaged women in History: Marie Curie, Benazir Bhutto, Valentina Terechkova. But from a business perspective, I am impressed by Marillyn Hewson, CEO of Lockheed Martin.

3 Mary Dupont-Madinier is a Partner at Valtus. Independence and change the world, have a place at the table, make a difference. What opportunities does a career in business offer women? Independence, participation in current affairs and the economy, broaden your horizons, grow, continual learning, relationships, staying in touch with the changing economy and society, avoid become obsolete and uninteresting. What does your company do to address under representation of women? They hired me! I am the oldest partner, only foreigner and only female partner, they look to me to push women issues and connect with clients and represent the company and their belief in diversity. What is your top advice for young talents on International Women s Day? Get involved, be ambitious, reach for what you want, be yourself, don t settle for mediocrity. Christine Lagarde. A game changer by who she is : yet herself, accessible and willing to speak out, realistic, proactive and positive, not in it for herself but has a real believe that women make a different in the economy, not about self-promotion, smart.

4 Clara Gaymard is the President of GE France. Quelles ont été les motivations qui vous ont amenées à commencer une carrière dans le secteur privé? Après un début de carrière dans le public, c est mon intérêt pour General Electric et pour le projet de cette entreprise qui m a poussée à m engager dans le privé. Quelles opportunités offre ce genre de carrière pour une femme? GE a une politique de carrière très ouverte pour les femmes. La promotion active des femmes vers les postes de décision et vers les filières encore majoritairement masculines, type ingénierie, font l objet de diverses initiatives (promotion en interne, partenariats avec des universités, programmes, bourses étudiantes, etc.) et les opportunités qui en découlent sont nombreuses. Qu'entreprend votre entreprise au sujet de la sous-représentation des femmes? Chez GE, nous avons mis en place le Women s Network, qui permet à nos salariées de partager entre elles leurs expériences, leurs connaissances, d échanger sur les bonnes pratiques et les clés pour le développement du leadership. Ce type d outil redonne aux femmes la confiance qui peut leur faire défaut dans le monde l entreprise, et met en lumière le rôle actif qu elles jouent dans leur propre évolution professionnelle. A l'occasion de la Journée de la femme, quels conseils donneriez-vous aux jeunes femmes talentueuses? Le premier impératif, c est de travailler, beaucoup et sans relâche. Ensuite, se faire confiance avoir conscience de ses atouts et faire confiance à ses équipes. Enfin, je recommanderais de suivre l adage «à chaque jour suffit sa peine» : savoir faire un pas après l autre sans se soucier trop impatiemment des résultats. Qui est votre source d'inspiration et pourquoi? Plutôt que de citer un nom je dirais la musique en général, qui occupe une place déterminante dans ma vie. Contrairement aux apparences, je suis d un tempérament plutôt méditatif.

5 Florence Humbaire is Directrice Exécutive Transformation & IT Western Europe at AIG and is also the Co-Chair of our AMCHAM Committee. I wanted to work to get a salary and become autonomous. As I was living in a medium sized city, I did not have a big choice, but I was lucky to find my first job in Controlling, working for an American Cie. A career in business offers the opportunity to do many different jobs and to discover areas you would never have thought about. I am a big believer that it is particularly important to try different things, face new challenges to learn more and then discover what you like most or where you are best performing. What does your company do to address the under-representation of women? AIG has done a lot in this area and has developed Women s forum trainings since 2012, mixing women from different countries and functions and giving them advice and training on how to move their career forward. We also have a Diversity program in each country and we have set up local women s network to encourage discussion, propose action plans such as organisation of events to hear about some Senior Women testimonies on their career, what difficulties they encountered and how they managed them. What is your top advice for young talents on International Women s Day? My advice is: believe in your dreams, work hard, deliver and make your achievements visible. In parallel, you absolutely need to build a strong network to help your career progression, and do not hesitate to ask for it when you want a promotion. My role model is Dawn Cheyrouze, our Global Head of Talent management in AIG because she has a very Senior position today and she has dedicated huge efforts for many years to promoting women matters within the company and she succeeded in getting the support of Global Senior management. Dawn has also built an incredible network and it has been instrumental for her own career.

6 Charlotte Hutin is the Legal Affairs Director at Johnson & Johnson. Quelles ont été les motivations qui vous ont amenées à commencer une carrière dans le secteur privé? De formation juridique, entre le cabinet d avocat et l entreprise, le choix était évident. J aime ce sentiment d appartenance à un collectif avec un objectif commun et sa dimension humaine. Je n ai jamais envisagé ma vie professionnelle en tant que «carrière». C était d abord une volonté d indépendance puis ensuite une volonté de prendre part à un projet commun au sein d une équipe, puis au sein d une organisation, avec la chance d être dans le secteur de la santé et donc de pouvoir donner un sens à mon action. Quelles opportunités offre ce genre de carrière pour une femme? C est très dépendant de l entreprise dans laquelle vous êtes ainsi que de votre formation de départ. Johnson&Johnson est un groupe qui a la volonté d accompagner et promouvoir les femmes aux postes de management et de direction. L entreprise permet de concilier une vie personnelle et une vie de famille, avec des perspectives de développement sur le long terme à des périodes de vie adaptée au rythme des femmes, ce qui par exemple est moins vrai dans les cabinets d avocats. Qu'entreprend votre entreprise au sujet de la sous-représentation des femmes? Depuis maintenant plusieurs années J&J s intéresse aux femmes, leur bienêtre, la possibilité pour elles de combiner vie professionnelle et vie personnelle. A cet effet un «Women Leadership Initiative committee» est en place pour comprendre, accompagner et faciliter la vie des femmes (quatre cinquième, travail à domicile, services de conciergerie type pressing cordonnier mais aussi coiffeur manucure, salle de repos et des facilités offertes pour faire du sport). Par ailleurs, depuis plusieurs années, une attention toute particulière est portée aux femmes dans le cade des «talents review» avec une volonté affichée de promouvoir les femmes aux postes de direction de l entreprise. Des programmes de formations spécifiques dédiées aux femmes leaders de demain existent avec de forts investissements. Programme de leadership exclusivement dédié aux femmes : programme d une année qui permet à chacune de mieux se connaître, de rencontrer

7 d autres femmes et de partager des expériences humaines riches, qui vous aide à mieux vous connaître, identifier vos qualités, savoir ce qui a du sens pour chacune et comment assumer, vivre sereinement et en accord avec soi-même et ses choix professionnels (3 modules d une semaine sur une année à l étranger avec coaching et appartenance à un réseau de femmes internes multidisciplinaires et multi pays). A l'occasion de la Journée de la femme, quels conseils donneriez-vous aux jeunes femmes talentueuses? Y croire. Savoir ce qu elles veulent, ce à quoi elles aspirent vraiment, se connaître et connaître ses limites, l objectif étant de trouver le bon équilibre. Elles sont les seules à savoir ce qui est important pour elles et à pouvoir fixer leurs limites. L entreprise ne le fera pas pour elles. Il y a un temps pour tout, des périodes de vie propres à la femme qui impliquent d envisager une «carrière» professionnelle à une échelle et sous un angle différent parfois des hommes. Ne pas s oublier et rester ce qu elles sont : des femmes! Ne pas vouloir ressembler aux hommes et ne surtout pas tout sacrifier à sa vie professionnelle. Enfin surtout, prendre du plaisir à ce qu elles font et continuer d apprendre, être curieuse, car malgré tout ce qui peut être mis en place pour faciliter la vie professionnelle des femmes, une carrière professionnelle implique des choix, parfois des sacrifices et n est pas un long fleuve tranquille! Qui est votre source d'inspiration et pourquoi? Honnêtement dans l entreprise je cherche encore, il me semble que c est vraiment propre à chacune. Si je devais donner un nom, je citerai Simone Veil. Elle a su rester qui elle était, défendre ses idées, imposer ses choix professionnels à son mari, réussir une vie de famille et une vie professionnelle sans se renier ni renoncer à ses valeurs malgré la difficulté des sujets et le contexte de l époque.

8 Deborah Mur is the Western Europe Head for Treasury & Trade Solutions at Citi. I realized that I didn't want to be a lawyer or doctor. Business offers endless opportunities to earn a living doing anything you feel passionate about. You just need to develop a good business model to monetize your interests. What does your company do to address under representation of women? Citi has initiated numerous programs to identify high potential talent for all genders in the organization and then provide training and opportunities for senior management exposure. Hopefully, these programs will instill the confidence for women to take the risks to apply for more challenging positions. What is your top advice for young talented women and men on international women s day? Don't stay too long, more than three years, in your current role. Look for opportunities to expand your role to learn something new, or move to a new role to learn new skills and take on new challenges. My role models have been many incredibly smart people. I try to glean insights into the reasons for their success.

9 Shari Leslie Segall is a journalist, writer & teacher at Science Po Paris. What was the alternative? I never wanted a family (I have trouble even keeping my plants watered). An artistic career (like that of my father, who was a violist in the Philadelphia Orchestra - or like that of my dreams, i.e., to be a full-time writer never in need of a day-job, as opposed to the part-time writer that I am) seemed, if not out of reach, at least in need of a Plan B. For every different aspect of the business world there s a different woman s personality that fits so well with it. Goal setting/achieving, strategic planning, deal making, networking - and the list goes way, way on each of these answers a deep need in the women who are fortunate enough to be able to devote their time to it and receive joy from doing so. What is your top advice for young talented women and men on international women s day? Listen to two people. Two people. Not three. Two. First, pick a mentor. Take a lot of time deliberating as to who your mentor should be. Weigh aspects of this person s professional and personal life. If the little voice in your head says the match is not perfect, take a lot more time and pick someone else. You ll find the person if you look long and hard enough. Second, listen to yourself. No matter how young, how inexperienced, how terrified you are, listen to what you would really want for yourself if no one in your world were telling you what you should want. Then go for it. Do not - that s: do not - risk waking up when you re 80 years old - or even 60 or 50 years old - and saying, It s too late now. It s too late to live out my dream. I prefer to call them heroines. My three heroines - and this goes back about 45 years - are Isadora Duncan (Why? Read My Life, her autobiography), Joan of Arc (Why? All due respects to former Defense Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie, it was Joan of Arc who was the first woman to lead the French Army) and Helen of Troy (Why? Because her beauty supposedly launched a thousand ships, and no matter what the feminists that I grew up with in the 70s said, yes, a woman s beauty is important!
