2 This section will take about 45 minutes. 2 Part I : Listening Comprehension (30 marks) Answer all the questions in this part on the question paper. There are instructions about how to answer the questions, and which language to answer in, at the beginning of each exercise. You do not need to write in full sentences. Before each recorded item is played, time is allowed for reading the instructions and studying the questions. All items are heard more than once and some are divided into sections this is made clear at the beginning of each exercise. You may make notes and write your answers at any time during the test. A signal is used to introduce each item.

Texte à lire 1 Incident à l hôpital Mardi après-midi sur le parking de l Hôpital Pasteur, un homme d un certain âge est tombé et s est fait mal à la jambe, ayant glissé sur de la glace à quelques mètres de l entrée des urgences. Une passante qui avait vu sa chute lui a porté secours en le recouvrant de sa propre veste, en attendant que les infirmiers sortent pour le porter dans l hôpital ou pour le prendre en charge mais en vain. Ce n est que vingt minutes plus tard qu une ambulance est arrivée et l a embarqué pour qu il soit admis aux urgences! Étonnamment, il s agit de la procédure habituelle. Le périmètre de l hôpital s arrête à la porte d entrée et le personnel n est donc pas autorisé à intervenir en dehors du bâtiment. Heureusement, la radio faite par les médecins n ayant pas révélé de fracture, l homme a pu repartir. «Le patient ne recevra pas de facture pour un déplacement aussi proche», confirme le chef de l hôpital. 10 10 Texte à lire repas pour le prix d un seul billet Les grandes compagnies aériennes rendent leurs lounges aussi agréables que possible pour les voyageurs de première classe, afin de leur offrir quelques moments de repos et de divertissement avant de prendre leur vol. La présentation d un billet «first class» vous suffit pour y accéder. Mais à l aéroport chinois de Xi an, un jeune Chinois a eu l ingénieuse idée d utiliser un seul billet pour manger gratuitement 300 fois dans le salon VIP de la China Airlines. Le stratagème est simple comme bonjour. L homme achète un billet première classe valable un an qui donne accès au salon réservé aux voyageurs d affaires, où il s installe confortablement pour déguster les plats et vins raffinés offerts gratuitement à volonté. Ayant mangé à sa faim, au lieu de se rendre à la porte d embarquement, il quitte l aéroport pour rentrer tranquillement chez lui, sans oublier d annuler sa réservation pour ce jour-là en modifiant son billet pour le lendemain. Il peut ainsi revenir le jour suivant avec son billet modifié et refaire la même chose. Ses visites quotidiennes finissent par attirer l attention d un membre du personnel qui décide de faire des recherches dans le système informatique qui révèlent le nombre étonnant de modifications. Mais le porte-parole du transporteur chinois confie n avoir aucun moyen de stopper la ruse, étant donné sa légalité totale. Finalement découvert, le faux passager a même l audace de demander l annulation définitive de son billet et le remboursement à 100 % du prix d achat comme l autorisent les clauses de la compagnie! 12 12 Texte à lire 3 Initiation obligatoire aux travaux de ménage Ce weekend, les habitants d un canton suisse vont voter sur la continuation d une pratique qui consiste à former les jeunes lycéens aux travaux ménagers comme partie de leur programme scolaire obligatoire. Durant trois semaines, les jeunes partent avec leurs professeurs dans une maison qu il doivent entretenir tout en gérant leurs dépenses. Bref, tout ce qu ils ne font pas souvent chez eux! Trois semaines, cela peut paraître beaucoup dans une année scolaire déjà bien chargée et ces cours coûtent très cher aux autorités qui ont fait plusieurs tentatives pour les supprimer. En 2003, ils avaient disparu du programme scolaire mais un vote populaire avait obtenu leur retour. De l avis des enseignants, cette période représente une très bonne préparation à l avenir en faculté. Mais le programme ne fait pas forcément l unanimité parmi les jeunes. Stéphanie, 15 ans, trouve utile d apprendre un peu à bricoler, à manier en toute sécurité quelques outils, à changer une prise. Pour Éric, l idée de savoir préparer quelques plats sains lui plaît, mais il ne voit absolument pas l intérêt d apprendre à faire la lessive ou le repassage. Pour comprendre pourquoi une telle formation existe, il faut revenir aux années trente. A cette époque, toutes les jeunes filles en Suisse devaient suivre l école ménagère. Mais dans les années soixante-dix, l égalité hommes-femmes s est développée un peu partout, et il a été décidé d étendre cette formation aussi aux garçons. Ce dimanche, les habitants devront de nouveau se prononcer sur la continuation de ces cours. Le résultat ne fait guère de doutes : les parents vont voter largement pour que leurs enfants garçons et filles continuent à se former aux tâches ménagères. Une formation qui serait également bien utile à beaucoup de jeunes ailleurs!
