3 INFORMATION REGARDING CONVERGENCE In the projection television, the image is formed by projecting 3 different color images (red, green and ble) onto the projection screen. Convergence refers to the alignment of red, green and ble images on the projection screen. When these images are properly aligned (converged), yo see a sharp and vibrant color image. Sometimes, the three images may reqire alignment. This is de to the effect of earth s magnetic field on the projection tbes. Normally, adjstment is not necessary after the initial alignment at the center of the screen. It is possible to correct the color fringing on other areas of the screen by sing the bttons on the remote control and by following the on-screen instrctions in the set-p men. Please converge the images before sing the television for the first time. The following diagram shows examples of a misaligned image and a properly aligned image. 6 INSTALLATION Installation Television Location This nit can be sed as an entertainment center. Conslt yor dealer for available options. Avoid excessive snlight or bright lights, inclding reflections. Keep away from excessive heat or moistre. Inadeqate ventilation may case internal component failre. Florescent lighting may redce remote control transmitting range. Keep away from magnetic eqipment, inclding motors, fans and external speakers. Optional Cable Connections Shielded adio and video cables shold be sed between components. For best reslts: Use 75-ohm coaxial shielded cables. Use appropriate inpt and otpt connectors, that match yor component connectors. Avoid long cables to minimize interference. AC Power Spply Cord CAUTION: TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK, MATCH WIDE BLADE OF PLUG TO WIDE SLOT OF AC OUTLET AND FULLY INSERT. DO NOT USE A PLUG WITH A RECEPTACLE OR OTHER OUTLET UNLESS THE BLADE CAN BE FULLY INSERTED TO PREVENT BLADE EXPOSURE. Cable / Antenna Connection For proper reception, either a cable or antenna connection is reqired. Cable Connection Connect the cable spplied by yor local cable company to ANT1 connection on back of television. Select cable mode and ANT1 in SET UP men nder Prog Chan (Program Channels). Note: A cable converter box may be reqired for proper reception. Check with yor local cable company for compatibility reqirements. Polarized plg Incoming Cable from Cable Company 75 Ohm VHF/UHF on back of PTV Antenna Connections For proper reception of VHF/UHF channels, an external antenna is reqired. For best reception an otdoor antenna is recommended. Connect home antenna to ANT1 connection on back of television. Select TV mode and ANT1 in the Incoming Cable from Home Antenna SET UP men nder Prog Chan. Cable Preset Cable Mode is preset at the factory. Antenna sers mst change to TV Mode and ANT 1 in the Set Up men. 4

7 Care and Cleaning CARE AND CLEANING Projection Screen (For Models PT-47WX52C, PT-53WX52C and PT-56WX52C) Trn TV Off The projection screen is a high precision lens system which has a protective screen. The protective screen is flly washable with the following precations: Use a mild soap soltion or window cleaner and a clean cloth. DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS. Do not se landry detergent or atomatic dishwasher soap. Do not se alcohol, ammonia, or petrolem based prodcts. Avoid excessive moistre and wipe dry. Prevent soltion from rnning into the receiver below. Avoid bmping or scraping the screen. Note: Do not spray any type of cleaning flid directly on the screen. Projection Screen (For Model PT-47WX42C) Trn TV Off The projection screen is a high precision lens system which does not attract dst. Occasionally dst with a feather dster or very soft brsh sing only p and down motions. Never rb across the screen sing a side to side motion. Clean infreqently with a very weak soltion of dishwashing soap sing a soft, lint-free clean cloth. DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS. Do not se window or glass cleaner, landry detergent, atomatic dishwasher soap, or abrasive cleaners. Do not se alcohol, ammonia, or petrolem based prodcts. Avoid excessive moistre and wipe dry. Prevent soltion from rnning into the receiver below. Avoid bmping or scraping the screen. Protect the very fine grooves on the screen which transport the pictre. Note: Do not spray any type of cleaning flid directly on the screen. Cabinet and Remote Control For cabinets and remote control, se a soft cloth dampened with water or a mild detergent soltion. The extended se of fixed image program material can case permanent pictre tbe damage, shown as a shadow image viewable on normal programs. This type of irreversible pictre tbe deterioration can be limited by performing the following steps: Limit the display of fixed image program material to no more than 15% of total viewing time per week. Amplifier Connection (TO AUDIO AMP) To listen throgh a separate stereo system, connect an external adio amplifier TO AUDIO AMP otpts on back of television. Note: TO AUDIO AMP terminals cannot be connected directly to external speakers. Adio Adjstments 1. Select SPEAKERS ON located in the onscreen AUDIO men. 2. Set amplifier volme to minimm. 3. Adjst television volme to desired level. 4. Adjst amplifier volme to match the television. 5. Select SPEAKERS OFF & VARIABLE AUDIO OUT from AUDIO men. 6. Volme, mte, bass, treble and balance are now controlled throgh the television. Note: Select SPEAKERS OFF & FIXED AUDIO OUT to control adio fnctions throgh the external amplifier. Digital TV - Set-Top Box (DTV-STB) or DVD Connection This television is capable of displaying 1080i and 480p DTV signals when connected to a DTV Tner set-top-box (STB). In order to view DTV programming, the STB mst be connected to the component video inpts (Y, P B, P R ) of the television. A DTV signal mst be available in yor area. Select the otpt of the STB to either 1080i or 480p. This television also tilizes a progressive scan dobler, which de-interlaces the NTSC signal and progressively scans the image. This allows yo to sit close to the TV and not see the thin black horizontal lines (venetian blind effect) associated with interlaced TV pictres. Use this diagram to connect the Panasonic DTV-STB (Digital TV-Set-Top Box) or DVD Player to the back of yor TV. Inpt Signal ASPECT Image on 16:9 Screen Size Explanation 480i or 480p 4:3 4 3 This will display a 4:3 pictre at its standard 4:3 size with gray side bars. (Not recommended for viewing 4:3 pictres, may case a permanent image on screen if displayed for a prolonged period of time.) 480i or 480p ZOOM 16 9 This will expand the 4:3 pictre niformly (width and height) to fll screen width and then reposition the pictre vertically. (Recommended for letterbox pictres.) 480i or 480p FULL 16 9 This will show pictre at fll screen size. (Recommended for anamorphic pictres.) 480i JUST 16 9 This will stretch the right and left edges of a 4:3 pictre to fill the screen. The center of the screen will have aspect correction applied. The size of the pictre will depend on the original signal. (Recommended for reglar TV viewing.) BBE Btton Press this btton to trn the BBE sond featre On or Off. BBE Sond technology enhances speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of msical passages to provide otstanding natral sond. SAP Btton Press this btton to let yo cycle throgh different adio modes. If yo are receiving a stereo program and yo press the SAP btton, yo can cycle between STEREO and MONO. 12

15 PIP and Split Operation Note: The shapes of PIP and SPLIT fnction bttons may vary depending on the remote control. PIP Operation Split Operation PIP Frame This featre lets yo watch two different channels side by side with or withot an external video sorce. PIP AND SPLIT OPERATION This television incldes a two-tner Pictre In Pictre (PIP) featre. This allows yo to watch two (2) live broadcasts at the same time with or withot an external video sorce sch as a VCR, cable box, etc. Connect incoming cable to ANT 1 inpt on back of TV PIP Press to display PIP frame. Main Pictre PIP CH Note: Adio is from Main Pictre only. Split Pictre no Adio Select channels for the PIP frame by pressing. Select channels for the Main pictre by pressing or CH or se the remote control nmeric keypad. SWAP Press to switch the PIP and MAIN PICTURE sorce. RECALL Press to view pictre sorce stats. PIP Press to cancel PIP frame. SPLIT Press to display Split screen. Select channels for the Split screen by pressing. PIP CH CH Main Pictre with Adio Note: Adio is from Main Pictre only. Select channels for the Main pictre by pressing or or se the remote control nmeric keypad. CH SWAP Press to switch the SPLIT SCREEN and MAIN PICTURE sorce. RECALL Press to view pictre sorce stats. CH PIP and Split Operation With a Cable Box To view premim (scrambled) cable channels throgh yor cable box in the Main Pictre: Note: Use this procedre if yo want to watch premim cable channels in the Main Pictre while viewing a television program or video in the PIP or Split frame. Procedre Select ANT 2 in the SET UP men nder Prog Chan (Program Channels). Tne PTV to Channel 3. PIP SPLIT Press or on the remote control to display the PIP or Split frame. 59 À propos de la convergence Une image est créée par la projection de 3 images de coler différentes (roge, vert et blee) sr l écran d téléprojecter. La convergence est l alignement des images roges, vertes et blees sr l écran. Lorsqe ces images sont correctement alignées (convergées), il est possible de voir ne image coler claire et nette. Ces 3 images doivent parfois être alignées en raison de l effet d champ magnétiqe de la terre sr les tbes de projection. En règle général, n réglage ltérier n est pas nécessaire après l alignement initial a centre de l écran. Il est possible de corriger les franges colorées sr les atres srfaces de l écran a moyen des toches nmériqes de la télécommande o en sivant les instrctions affichées a men de configration. Il est conseillé de converger les images a moment de la mise en marche initiale de l appareil. Les exemples ci-dessos illstrent n réglage correct et incorrect de la convergence. Afin de rédire le risqe d interférence, éviter d tiliser des câbles longs. CANAL d men SET UP (RÉGLAGE). 2. Appyer sr la toche TV/VIDEO de la télécommande por sélectionner le mode vidéo (VIDÉO 1, VIDÉO 2, etc.) selon le raccordement a magnétoscope. 3. S assrer qe le contact est établi sr le magnétoscope. 4. Syntoniser le canal 3 o 4 sr le magnétoscope, selon le réglage à l arrière d magnétoscope. 5. À l aide d câblosélecter, syntoniser le canal broillé por l enregistrement. 6. Amorcer l enregistrement. Nota: Por visionner n atre canal drant l enregistrement: Sélectionner ANT1 sos la rbriqe PROG. CANAL d men SET UP (RÉGLAGE). Appyer sr la toche TV/VIDEO de la télécommande por sélectionner le mode télé. Syntoniser le canal désiré sr le téléprojecter (canal non broillé). Branchement à n amplificater adio (TO AUDIO AMP) Por faire l'écote sr ne chaîne stéréo, relier le téléprojecter à la prise d'entrée d'n amplificater adio externe. Nota: Les prises TO AUDIO AMP ne pevent être tilisées por le branchement direct de hat-parlers externes. Réglages adio 1. Sélectionner H-PARLEURS EF a men AUDIO. 2. Régler le volme sr l'amplificater à son pls bas nivea. 3. Régler le volme sr le téléprojecter a nivea vol. 4. Régler le volme sr l'amplificater à n nivea correspondant à celi sr le téléprojecter. 5. Sélectionner H-PARLEURS H/CIRCUIT-SORTIE AUDIO VARIABLE a men AUDIO. 6. Le réglage d volme, des graves, des aigs et de l éqilibre ainsi qe la commande de sordine (COUPURE SON) sont maintenant contrôlés a moyen des commandes d téléprojecter. Note: En mode H/CIRCUIT-SORTIE AUDIO FIXE, le volme ne pet se régler qe sr l amplificater externe. Por afficher les émissions de la télévision nmériqe, le décoder doit être connecté ax prises d entrée vidéo composant (Y, P B, P R ) d téléprojecter. De pls, le signal de télévision nmériqe doit être disponible dans votre région. Sélectionner le format d signal de sortie d décoder: 1080i o 480p. Le téléprojecter tilise également n dobler de balayage progressif leqel désentrelace le signal NTSC et balaie l image progressivement. Cela rend invisibles les minces bandes noires horizontales (effet de store vénitien) associées ax images entrelacées, et ce, même lorsqe le spectater est placé très près de l écran. Utiliser ce schéma de raccordement comme référence por connecter n décoder DTV o lecter DVD a téléprojecter. Avec cette technologie, la qalité des dialoges est grandement améliorée tandis qe la gamme dynamiqe des passages msicax est intégralement rétablie en ve d en restiter tot le son saisissant natrel.
