Course content French 1 is a training for French intermediate on A2 level as described in the Common European Framework of Reference: http://www.languages.unimaas.nl/niveaus_common_european_framework _reference/cef_english.htm The students will have lectures twice a week (120 minutes each lecture) during 7 weeks in both block A and B. During the lectures we ll use the book français.com, highly focussed on business French, and Vocabulaire progressif du français des affaires. We ll dedicate time to grammar (explanation and exercises) and we ll reserve some time for conversation and listening exercises. Students will be encouraged to express themselves in daily situations and typically French circumstances. 3. Course structure and methods The students will have lectures twice a week (120 minutes each lecture) during 7 weeks in both block A and B. The assignment (Vocabulary/Phraseology, Audio and Conversation) should be 5.5 or more. The written exam should also be 5.5 or more. The average of the combined assignments grades and the written exam forms the overall mark for French 1. Resit The resit for the assignment will take place in week 7 of block B. This mark should be 5.5 or more. The resit for the written exam will take place in the exam period of block C. This mark should also be 5.5 or more. 5. Study load Students should count on around 140 hours of work in period A and B. (5 EC) Lectures: 14 weeks x 4 hours = 56 hrs Tests: assignment and written exam 4 hrs Homework (including preparation tests) 80 hrs Total French 1 (5 EC): 5 x 28 hours = 140 hrs This means that each block (both block A and B) the students have to dedicate a lot of time to their individual work: 80 hrs during the 2 blocks = 40 hrs per block. This is about 40 hrs in 8 weeks 5 hrs per week per block. 6. Competences The foreign language courses will help you obtain the following competence: 10.Working in an international/intercultural environment The graduate is able to engage in appropriate and meaningful communications with international /intercultural stakeholders 7. How the course fits in the greater programme French 1 is related to all the courses dealing with communication skills and intercultural communication. If you want to work in an international organisation, knowledge of a foreign language is very important. Also knowledge of a language can help you prepare for study or a work placement abroad. Entry requirements A2 level as described in the Common European Framework of Reference: http://www.languages.unimaas.nl/niveaus_common_european_framework_refe rence/cef_english.htm Students have to show a copy of their Dutch Havo / VWO diploma with a sufficient mark for French or any other certificate attesting an A2 level.
