Then present them with the gap fill task to the learners and ask them to listen carefully to the song x 2 with the aim of filling in the missing French words. Have the learners then try to work out some of the meaning in English before showing them the video one last time with the English subtitles to allow them to check. This could be done independently or in pairs. Silver: them to listen out for any words that they might be able to recognise, focusing perhaps on cognates (mots identiques) and near cognates (mots similaires). Then present them with the gap fill task and ask your learners to listen carefully to the song x 2 with the aim of filling in the missing French words. Below the video, there is also the option to show the French subtitles as they listen so as to offer some extra support in the form of the written text. Ask learners to complete the gap fill as per Gold task but with this additional help. As an extension task, they could then be given the option of working out some of the meaning in English (as a class / in pairs) before showing them the video one last time with the English subtitles to allow them to check. Bronze: them to listen out for any words that they might be able to recognise, focusing mainly on cognates (mots identiques) and near cognates (mots similaires). Then ask them to reveal the lyrics and play the song with French then English subtitles to allow them to check their work.
