2011-2012 French Wines Portfolio

French Wines. Discover what s on offer The UK wine market holds significant opportunities for the large variety and diversity of the French wine offer. Yet, it is currently a difficult and competitive market to break into. The aim of the French Trade Commission is to assist trade development between France and the UK by offering different types of services to French wine producers looking to export into the UK market. These include B2B events in the form of themed wine tastings, seminars and discussion days. We are also here to facilitate business opportunities and revive the connection between British consumers and French wine and as such, we are pleased to send you this new catalogue listing 16 French wine producers from various regions of France, all of whom are looking for representation in the UK. You will find in this catalogue a new approach to put you in touch seamlessly with these expanding companies, with a two page profile on each wine-grower detailing their range, and their rewards, with further specific information on one particular wine they have chosen to put in the spotlight. We have also included at the end of the catalogue a full index listing all the wines available in this catalogue. Seven different producing wine regions have been defined as follows: Bordeaux Champagne Languedoc Loire Provence Rhône Valley South West Should you be interested in obtaining more information or samples from any of the companies, please let us know. Alternatively, you can contact them directly, but please do keep us informed of any developments. These companies would welcome any feedback on their products to assist in the development of their export strategy. We hope this may be of interest and will be in touch in a couple of weeks for your thoughts, which we will then feedback to the producers. Bordeaux 7 Les Vignerons Réunis de Monségur The Monségur Cellars date back to Henry IIIrd, story has it that his wife Eleanor de Provence liked to stay at the chateaux where she enjoyed the wines immensely! In 1935 a group of wine growers decided to join forces to overcome the problem of buying the necessary material for their vines and wine making. The following year 15 pioneering growers formed the Monségur Cooperative, the first harvest was a qualified success which inspired other growers to join them. The second world war only reinforced the solidarity of these growers, it wasn t uncommon for the wives to man the vineyard if the husbands were away at war. The Monségur Cellars have never stopped evolving and adapting and today they boast nearly 200 members who all care passionately about their products and their customers. Languedoc The Pays d Oc covers the whole area between the Rhône delta and the Spanish border. Domaine Jean Gleizes is a domaine to watch for the future, farmed sustainably and with a very low carbon footprint.

Languedoc 10 Domaine Jean Gleizes Domaine JEAN GLEIZES is a 58 hectare estate at Ouveillan in the Languedoc producing Vin de Pays d Oc. The estate has been producing wine for over 600 years, and was bought in 2005 by Pierre-Philippe Callegarin, a winemaker from St Emilion. This is a domaine to watch for the future. Pierre-Philippe has made substantial investments, particularly in the vineyard where soil analysis and careful clone/rootstock selection match terroir to variety to optimise quality potential. The estate is farmed sustainably and has a very low carbon footprint, consuming half the typical energy consumption of an equivalent domaine. A range of wines are produced including value varietals and blends, and Ovilius, the estate s flagship wine. Pierre Philippe also continues as 4th generation winemaker at his family estate in St Emilion, Château Grand Clocher and Château de l Annonciation, a rich, concentrated St Emilion Grand Cru. Loire Valley The Loire is a region synonymous with diversity, with all styles of wines produced here. The Central Vineyards are the home of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, with the less well known areas of Quincy and Reuilly offering excellent value for money. Crisp and refreshing wines from Domaine Valéry Renaudat are strong rivals to its neighbours in Sancerre.

Loire Valley 11 Domaine Valéry Renaudat In 1999 Valéry Renaudat started work in 2.5 hectares of vines split between Reuilly and Quincy. Today with his team they have 15 hectares. The two separate vineyards demonstrate how the different terroirs (sandy, gravelly in Quincy and clay limestone in Reuilly) work differently with the same sauvignon blanc grape variety. Valéry is also attached to the area as it was his grandfather who first grew pinot noir in Reuilly. In 2005 he opened a tasting shop in Reuilly selling products from the region. In 2012 the new winery will be ready. Provence A particularly varied landscape, swept by the Mistral wind, blessed with sunny, warm and dry weather. Domaine du Dragon is an excellent example of the elegant, delicate rosés from Provence. Bandol creates full-bodied reds mainly from the Mourvèdre grape. Domaine de l Hermitage can be found in the village of Le Beausset, producing wines with plenty of depth and character.

Provence 12 Domaine du Dragon The DOMAINE DU DRAGON is located near Draguignan in the heart of Provence close to the Gorges du Verdon. The 23 hectares of vines are planted in south-facing terraces with a predominantly clay-limestone soil. The cellar, the Bastide (country house) and the farms have been fully renovated since the 1990s. The new cellar can welcome up to 40 people for tastings and visits. New vines are planted each year to ensure the growth of the estate, to keep the balance between the grape varieties, and to improve the quality of the wines. Integrated viticulture is used in order to highlight the soil and climate characteristics.
