Aleksander Kwaéniewski was one of the leading figures in European Politics. Author of numerous local and regional initiatives, he decisively joined the global war on terror and backed the decision to send Polish troops to the war against Saddam Hussein. Long- standing supporter of Ukraine's independence and sovereignty, Aleksander Kwasniewski inspired the international mediation efforts during the 2004 Orange Revolution, helping the young democracy in Ukraine to prevail. During his Presidency, he courageously confronted the past, significantly contributing to the reconciliation between Poles and the German, Jewish and Ukrainian people. On March 7, 2006, Aleksander Kwaéniewski was appointed Distinguished Scholar in the Practice of Global Leadership at Georgetown University, where, as a visiting faculty member, he taught students in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service about contemporary European politics, the trans-atlantic relationship and democratization in Central and Eastern Europe. He went to primary school at the Saint-Georges School of Kinshasa, in Kintambo and then went to the Badiadingi Institute, in Ngaliema. He holds a Certificate of Professional Attitude in Electricity from the Professional Institute of the Gombe, and is also a graduate from the Higher Institute for Technological Studies (ISTA). He moved to France in 1986, to undertake University studies at the University Paris Panthéon-Assas (Paris II), where he majored in Law and Political Sciences, and then had been a teacher there for two years. In August 1998, he came back to Kinshasa to create the political-military movement RCD (Rally for Congolese Democracy), with Professor Arthur Zahidi Ngoma. He then left Goma to move to Uganda, to undergo a military training and Intelligence Officer courses. On this occasion, he met Colonel John Garang de Mabior, leader of the South-Sudan independence. He then realized the Rwandan leaders and Congolese nationalists had not the same interests and objectives, so he left the RDC in 1999 and created the RDC-Kisangani, under the presidence of Professor Wamba Dia Wamba. He then became Defense Commissioner, a function he held until January 2001. After the merger of the RDC-L/ML and the MLC, which resulted in the creation of the Front for the National Liberation of the Congo (FLC), he became National Secretary, in charge of the military activities, with the rank of Colonel, throughout the MLC. In 2002-2003, he headed the delegation of military experts of the MLC in charge of negotiating the merge of the belligerent armies in order to create the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) during the political negotiations and the inter-congolese dialogue of Sun City, in South Africa. After the MLC became a political party he was appointed Executive National Secretary, in charge of the daily management of the Party by President Jean-Pierre Bemba. He was also appointed National Deputy and President of the Parliamentary Group of the MLC (which counts 94 members) of the Transitional National Assembly (500 members). Between March 2006 and January 2007, he served as President of the National Assembly, after Olivier Kamitatu. He was appointed national representative of the Lukunga district in Kinshasa during the parliamentary elections of November 2006. In 2010, he became General Secretary of the MLC and President of its Parliamentary group in the National Assembly. He was defeated during the parliamentary elections of 2011, with 12.000 voices accorded by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). In 2013, he led the delegation of the MLC to the national concertations. During these national conventions, he headed one of the five theme groups: communitarian conflicts, peace and reconciliation. On December 7 th 2014, he was appointed Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and New Technologies (PTNTIC) within the government of national cohesion of Joseph Kabila Kabange, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He has also been lawyer at the Kinshasa/Gombe Bar for several years.
