4 Ce document a pour objectif de retracer les projets de recherche à financement exogène public compétitif en énergie à la HES-SO, et se concentre ainsi sur les fonds de type : FNS, CTI, SCCER, OFEN, DDC, Interreg, FP7 et H2020. Ceci n est pas une liste exhaustive de toutes les recherches en énergie au sein des hautes écoles de la HES-SO. Les nombreux projets en énergie financés par Nano-Tera, EOS Holding, Fondation The Ark, Gebert Rüf Stiftung etc. ainsi que les mandats de recherche cantonaux ne figurent pas dans le présent document. 5 GEOTHERMAL TESTING SYSTEM (GTS) Financement : CTI Chèque d innovation Collaboration avec Geoazimut Sàrl à Fribourg ( Date de début : avril durée 2 mois Les systèmes de chauffage utilisant l énergie géothermique de basse profondeur (<400m) sont de plus en plus nombreux. Il est donc nécessaire de pouvoir gérer au mieux leur implémentation et de connaître leur potentiel énergétique. Pour évaluer ces paramètres Swissgeotesting Sàrl et Geoazimut Sàrl ont un capteur à disposition qui permet de mesurer la température, la pression (profondeur), l azimut et la pente. Le but de ce projet était de caractériser ce capteur pour une utilisation verticale et de définir les précisions de mesures des différents paramètres. Finalement, un support pour le capteur devait être développé pour pouvoir réaliser des mesures efficaces. Le projet a démontré que la précision pour les paramètres géométriques du capteur n était actuellement pas suffisante sans calibration pour la mesure des sondes géothermiques. Par contre les mesures de température et de pression sont suffisamment précises. Actuellement des mesures de profils de température sont régulièrement réalisées à l aide du capteur et du support réalisé. 6 DAHLIA, VALVE POUR CIRCUITS DE REFROIDISSEMENT DE VÉHICULES À FAIBLES ÉMISSIONS POLLUANTES Financement : CTI Collaboration avec : Johnson Electric Switzerland AG, Automotive Products Group à Murten Date de début : avril durée prévue: 2 ans Développement d une valve pilotée pour circuits de refroidissement de véhicules automobiles par des méthodes hautement performantes. Une régulation thermique optimisée des moteurs à explosion permet de réduire leur consommation et leurs émissions polluantes. L ajout de fonctions d hybridation (machines électriques à haute puissance, packs de batteries) nécessite des circuits de refroidissement supplémentaires. En conséquence, des circuits de refroidissement complexes ont fait leur apparition, ils comportent plusieurs branches devant être régulées indépendamment. Une méthode de développement d un actionneur pilotant une telle valve avait été étudiée lors d un projet précédent. Afin d'obtenir un système complet, la partie hydraulique, soit la valve ellemême doit être étudiée. Le but de ce projet est donc de développer, d une part, la partie valve d'un tel système et son optimisation par des méthodes de simulation numériques avancées et, d autre part, une méthode avancée d'optimisation permettant d'aboutir rapidement et de manière rationnelle à un design de vanne optimal. 7 FURIES WP3 AC/DC MULTI-TERMINAL NETWORKS AC/DC SYSTEM INTERACTIONS Funds : CTI SCCER FURIES Collaboration with : EPFL, ETHZ, EOS Holding, Swissgrid Starting date : January duration 3 years Project description Multi-terminal DC transmission is not yet commercially used, but it is anticipated to be a relevant option for system expansion or reinforcement soon. The deployment of this novel solution needs to be prepared in order to minimise technical risks and to ensure the interoperability of these systems. - Key challenge 1: Gain clarity on the needed operational co-ordination of embedded HVDC systems within synchronous AC systems. - Key challenge 2: Improve the fault behaviour and topology of HVDC converters to prepare them for use in multi-terminal DC grids. Within SCCER FURIES, HEIG-VD and HEIA-FR are investigating modular multilevel converters for HVDC and renewable energy connections. On the system side (AC-DC interactions), the effect of network resonances and dynamic stability contributions from HVDC are investigated. 8 DEVELOPMENT OF 30 KW H2-AIR FUEL CELL STACK FOR AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS Funds : CTI Collaboration with : EPFL, Belenos Clean Power Starting date : duration 2 years Project description The aim of this project is to develop a 10 kw and a 30 kw H2-air fuel cell (FC) stack for automotive applications based on innovative Swiss technology for air compressors. The target is to overcome some of the drawbacks of H2-O2 fuel cell and conventional FC air supply systems. The goal will be to provide a FC system using air as oxidant offering a) an excellent fuel efficiency and b) compactness and price-worthiness close to the performance achieved with a pure oxygen FC system. The sub-task of HEIG-VD in this project is to develop test benches and test different FC configurations/technologies. 9 AGREFLEX : AGGREGATION OF FLEXIBLE ELECTRICAL LOADS Funds : CTI SCCER FURIES and EOS Holding Starting date : duration 3 years Project description Storage of electrical energy will play a key role to enable the large scale deployment of intermittent renewables. The control of flexible electrical loads, mainly systems for electric heating and electrical domestic hot water preparation, offers services equivalent to short-term (day scale) and mid-term (week scale) storage. The goal of the Agreflex project is to design solutions enabling groups of flexible loads to be controlled as a single resource modelled as a battery. Such a resource would then be managed by a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) controller. Concretely, the following activities are performed: estimation of shiftable power and energy at the scale of Switzerland, design and simulation of aggregation algorithms requiring a limited exchange of control information between the controlled sites and the aggregator, performance verification based on measurement of buildings. 10 SCCER SUPPLY OF ELECTRICITY WP 3.2 Financement : CTI SCCER SoE Collaboration avec : EPFL Date de début : durée 3 ans En 2012, la puissance mondiale installée dans le domaine de la petite hydraulique était estimée approximativement à 75 GW, représentant plus de 7% de la capacité hydraulique totale. En Suisse en 2010, il y avait déjà plus de 1300 petites centrales hydroélectriques en fonctionnement pour une capacité installée de 859 MW représentant plus de 5% de la production d'électricité du pays. La mise hors service progressive des centrales nucléaires en Suisse nécessite l'installation de nouveaux moyens de production d'électricité. Le potentiel de la petite hydraulique est évalué à 1,3-1,6 TWh selon l'ofen. L'objectif de ce projet est de développer une gamme de microturbines axiales pour récupérer l'énergie dissipée par les réducteurs de pression des réseaux d'eau potable. 11 SCCER FURIES WP DU MICRO POMPAGE-TURBINAGE POUR RÉGULER LOCALEMENT LE RÉSEAU Financement : CTI SCCER FURIES Date de début : durée 2 ans Un système de production électrique incluant une grande part d'énergies renouvelables de nature intermittente doit faire appel à des capacités de stockage que seules les centrales de pompage-turbinage sont à même d'offrir. Dans le domaine de la grande hydraulique, cette technique de stockage est relativement bien connue et certaines technologies comme les pompesturbines ont été développées spécifiquement pour ce type d'application. A petite échelle, le micro pompage-turbinage est une solution envisageable pour contrôler localement le réseau électrique (compensation chargerenouvelables, services de support réseau). Contrairement au cas de la grande hydraulique, ce type d'installation n'a pas encore été réalisé pour les petites puissances, ceci peut s'expliquer en partie par le fait que le rendement des pompes dans cette gamme de puissance n'est pas optimisé. Ce projet a pour but d'étudier et d'identifier les technologies de la petite hydraulique les plus adaptées pour ce type d'installation. Le projet comportera également une évaluation des avantages liée aux systèmes de support aux réseaux: contrôle optimal de la tension, gestions de l'écrêtement de la demande d'énergie de point, dispatching optimal. 12 SCCER BIOSWEET - BIOMASS FOR SWISS ENERGY FUTURE Funds : CTI SCCER BIOSWEET Starting date: 2014 duration 3 years Collaboration with: PSI, BFH, ETHZ, EPFL, SUPSI, WSL, ZHAW Project description SCCER BIOSWEET groups a consortium of 15 Partners from 9 Academic Institutions and more than 50 Cooperation Partners from private or public sector organizations. The SCCER BIOSWEET focuses on the development of sustainable biochemical and thermochemical biomass conversion technologies with the vision to contribute additional 100 Petajoule from bioenergy to the Swiss Energy Strategy 2050, i.e. doubling of the current biomass energy usage. The research is directed towards market implementation but guided by the Swiss economical, environmental, and political framework. 13 PUMPED HEAT ELECTRICITY STORAGE Funding : CTI, Alstom Collaboration with : Alstom Switzerland Starting date: 2013 duration 3 years Project description Future electricity systems will be characterized by high shares of fluctuating renewables. Several measures are needed, among which electricity storage plays a prominent role. Within the proposed project a novel concept shall be experimentally validated at model scale. It is based on a combined heat pump/power cycle. Electricity is only stored under the form of heat. In case of missing input from renewable sources, the plant can still deliver power by supplying heat externally, e.g. through combustion of biomass. The plug-and-play concept to be developed will require a low investment for the final customers, reaching economic feasibility with an available hydraulic power below 25 kw. A new part of the Swiss and international renewable energy potential will then be targeted and profitably exploited. 15 SEMS-ESCO : LIMITATION DU PIC QUART-HORAIRE DANS LES INSTALLATIONS PROFESSIONNELLES ET OPTIMISATION ÉNERGÉTIQUE PAR LE BIAIS D'UNITÉS DE STOCKAGE Financement : CTI, Stignergy SA et Leclanché Collaboration avec : Stignergy SA, Leclanché SA et SUPSI Date de début : durée 3 ans Stignergy optimise la consommation électrique des professionnels. Son produit SEMS réduit dynamiquement le pic de puissance mensuel, grâce à un algorithme distribué permettant d'ordonnancer l'activité des principaux appareils d'une installation électrique. Ce projet vise à développer une nouvelle génération de matériel et d'algorithme permettant la prise en compte d'une unité de stockage électrique, pour mieux limiter les pics de puissance et pour mieux valoriser et rentabiliser la production locale d électricité produite à partir de panneaux photovoltaïques ou de mini-éoliennes. 16 SHX A NOUVEL SELF-HEALING MEDICAL DIAGNOSTIC X- RAY POWER SOURCE FINANCEMENT : CTI Financement : CTI Collaboration avec : EPFL/DESL, JBAG (Brunnen) Date de début : durée 3 ans Le projet SHX entre dans le plus large projet GlobalDiagnostiX qui consiste à développer machine de radiographie adapté au pays pauvres. Le principal objectif est de développer une machine de radiographie numérique incluant un module d'échographie, ayant un coût total inférieur à $50'000, c.-à-d. une réduction d'un facteur 10 par rapport à la technologie actuelle. L'objectif du travail proposé dans SHX est d étudier une nouvelle structure pour la partie d'alimentation haute-tension (40-120kV) du tube d'une machine rayon-x conçue selon les contraintes présentées par une application dans un réseau faible typique des pays pauvres et réaliser un démonstrateur des concepts proposés. 17 NEUROCOOL 2: DEVELOPMENT OF A SELF- COMMISSIONING, PREDICTIVE CONTROLLER FOR CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING Financement : CTI, Neurobat AG Collaboration avec : CSEM, Neuchâtel Starting date: 2014 duration 2 years Project description The application of predictive model based methods for Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning has been demonstrated successfully in phase 1. Neurobat targets to extend its product portfolio to air conditioning (AC). During an initial CTI Feasibility, a patent and market survey has been performed. Moreover, the simulation study showed potential energy savings of up to 20% w.r.t. to conventional controllers. The project aims to develop such novel AC controller prototypes with final tests on 3 pilot test sites. The thermal engineering institute is responsible for the WP on simulation environment: to develop and use a comprehensive simulation environment for the development and the validation of the control algorithms. Various occupancy scheduling and climatic conditions are considered. The building technical system (cooling system) will be integrated. 18 MINIATURISIERUNG DES TORUS-SPIRALGETRIEBES IN KUNSTSTOFF-STAHL UND KUNSTSTOFF-KUNSTSTOFF ZUR ERSCHLIESSUNG DES MASSENMARKTES DER HOCHUNTERSETZTEN KLEINGETRIEBE Finanzierung : KTI In Zusammenarbeit mit Tedec AG, Johnson Electric APG und Thermoplast AG Beginn : April Monate Projektbeschreibung Daten und Prozesse wurden erarbeitet um ein torus -Getriebe mit der Materialpaarung Stahl-Kunststoff herstellen und anbieten zu können. Dazu wurden Versagensmechanismen und optimale Schmierstoffkombinationen untersucht. Mittels modernster Simulationswerkzeuge wurden die Belastungswerte im Vergleich zu einem vergleichbaren Schneckengetriebe analysiert und ein thermisches Auslegungstool programmiert. Prototypen wurden sowohl auf einem eigens gefertigten Dauerlaufprüfstand, als auch auf einem Wechsellastprüfstand in einer Klimakammer im Benchmark gegen von der Automobilindustrie zertifizierte Serienantriebe getestet. Das Projekt hat gezeigt, dass ein torus-getriebe aus Kunststoff herstellbar und funktionsfähig ist. Der bisherige Stand der Technik lässt darauf schliessen, dass ein Markt vorhanden ist. Insbesondere im Wettbewerb mit Schneckengetrieben ist das torus-getriebe für Anwendungsfälle in denen Selbsthemmung, eine hohe Übersetzung bei geringem Platzbedarf und geringer Verschleiss gefordert ist eine erstzunehmende Alternative. 19 ACTIVE INTERFACES - HOLISTIC STRATEGY TO ACCELERATE THE TRANSPOSITION OF ADVANCED BIPV ADAPTED SOLUTIONS INTO REAL INNOVATIVE RACTICES Funds : SNF NRP 70 Energy Turnaround Collaboration with EPFL, CSEM Starting date : October 2014 duration 3 years Project description Building-integrated photovoltaic systems (BIPV) could be a high growth market with high impact for the economy and the "Energiewende". A better understanding of the technology acceptance and of the needs of the market is required for the design of optimised solutions and to ensure efficient knowledge and technology transfer. Value proposition breakdown along the value chain is essential to guarantee benefits for each actors. The research will focus on the systems studied and developed in the joint project, in the context of urban renewal in general and applied to the City of Neuchatel. Once realistic and promissing value propositions will be assessed for the key market segments and technologies, the project will focus on the design and implementation of communication and knowledge transfer tools. 20 HYDROPOWER OPERATION AND ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE IN A CHANGING MARKET ENVIRONMENT (HP-OPERATION) Funds : SNF - NRP 70 Energy Turnaround Collaboration with : Uni Basel, Uni Geneva, HTW Chur, Alpiq, FMV, AET, Misurio Starting date : October duration 3,5 years Project description To successfully implement the Energy Strategy 2050 sufficient investments are required, that needs to be financed by the operation. Thus, production needs to become more flexible to cope with the increased volatility of the market. The aim of this project is to provide modeling tools and insights how HP operation can account for those challenges by extending the existing approaches to account for different trading alternatives and market segments like future markets, the energy spot-market, or the reserve capacity market while at the same time include the technical and socio-economic constraints on the plant operation. This will be done for single and cascading hydropower plants. Also we will provide a methodology and tooling for the economic assessment of upcoming HP techniques that can increase efficiency or flexibility of HP production. This information will help the Swiss hydropower industry, to increase their profitability and therefore support the goals of the Energy Strategy 2050, and increase their competitive situation in the European energy market. 21 MODÉLISATION D'UN SYSTÈME ÉNERGÉTIQUE DURABLE EN INCLUANT LES PARAMÈTRES COMPORTEMENTAUX ET SOCIAUX Financement : FNS - SCOPES Collaboration avec Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies Date de début : octobre durée 3 ans Suivant leur dessein de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre, les pays européens cherchent à diminuer drastiquement leur consommation d énergie. Ce projet propose de modéliser le système énergétique de la Roumanie afin de découvrir la meilleure politique énergétique pour ce pays. Une contribution significative et innovante sera l intégration des économies d énergie réalisable grâce à un changement de comportement des consommateurs. Pour cela, nous ferons une enquête sociologique en Roumanie. Les résultats seront comparés aux toutes récentes enquêtes réalisées par notre équipe en Suisse, afin de déterminer les similitudes et les différences entre ces deux pays. 22 TESTS, SIMULATION AND VALIDATION OF ADSORPTION HEAT PUMP APPLICATIONS Funds : SNF NRP 70 Energy Turnaround Collaboration with : IBM, PSI, HSR Rapperswil Starting date : December 2014, duration 3 years Project description This project belongs to a joint project untitled: Thermally driven adsorption heat pumps for substitution of electricity and fossil fuels (THRIVE). The objective of THRIVE is to develop an adsorption heat pump (AdHP) able to upgrade low-grade thermal energy to satisfy the space heating demand and use driving heat to meet the cooling demand of residential and administrative buildings. Different sources of low-grade heat will be studied during this jointproject (industrial processes, waste incineration, district heating networks, cogeneration solar thermal energy or gas burners). The AdHP developed within this joint project will have a 10kW cooling capacity and a 30kW heating capacity. The main objectives of this project are the following: - identification of application opportunities and early markets where the developed AdHP could be adopted first; - experimental validation of the adsorption heat pump performances; - testing and optimization of the first and second AdHP assembled in the associated subprojects; - development and validation of a thermal performance model of AdHP with TRNSYS. 23 SYSTEMIC, MULTI-SCALE APPROACH TO INTEGRATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES IN ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEMS Financement : FNS Assistant Professor Energy Grant Date de début : août 2014 durée 4 ans Le tournant énergétique amorcé dans notre pays, en particulier la fermeture annoncée des centrales nucléaires et la politique de réduction des émissions des gaz à effet de serre vont engendrer une pénétration accrue, très importante à terme, des nouvelles sources d'énergie renouvelable. Ce projet propose une approche systémique "top-down" à l'intégration de ces sources d'électricité fluctuantes non contrôlables dans le réseau électrique. L'approche consiste à considérer le réseau électrique suisse comme ensemble de sousréseaux de plus en plus nombreux et de taille de plus en plus petite. De manière récursive, la location, la capacité et la nature des solutions de stockage seront précisées avec une résolution grandissante (géographique et en terme de niveau de tension). Les buts du projet sont de proposer des scénarios d'intégration de renouvelables optimaux aux sens Ecologique, Economique, de l'equilibre du réseau et de l'efficience énergétique.
