4 6 7 PRÉFACE 前 言 PREFACE En 2015, le festival Croisements fête ses dix ans. Héritier des Années croisées France Chine ( ), ce festival pluridisciplinaire est progressivement devenu le grand rendez-vous culturel du printemps en Chine. Dix années de découverte, de partage, d innovation et de créativité ont participé à l enrichissement mutuel des cultures française et chinoise. Véritable symbole de nos relations culturelles, le festival Croisements a su s inscrire dans le paysage culturel chinois et remporter l adhésion du public : depuis sa création, il a attiré plus de 8 millions de personnes dans toute la Chine. En 2014, lors de la visite d Etat en France du président Xi Jinping, les présidents de la République française et de la République populaire de Chine se sont engagés à développer les échanges humains entre nos deux pays, dans leurs dimensions éducative, universitaire, scientifique, sportive et bien évidemment culturelle. Le festival Croisements en est l un des outils les plus emblématiques et les plus efficaces. Du 10 avril au 10 juillet 2015, le festival Croisements célèbre sa première décennie. Plus de cent programmes et quatre cents manifestations se déroulent dans près de trente villes de Chine. Une programmation prestigieuse, ambitieuse et audacieuse, structurée autour de dix disciplines clés, afin d attirer un public toujours plus exigeant. Révélations ou artistes renommés, l édition du festival Croisements 2015 sera d une exceptionnelle diversité. Le festival Croisements ne pourrait avoir lieu sans le soutien de nos nombreux partenaires : que chacun en soit ici chaleureusement remercié. Leur engagement en faveur de la culture est exemplaire et leur contribution au dialogue culturel entre nos deux pays mérite d être soulignée. As a successor to the cultural exchange events, Années Croisées France Chine ( ), this multidisciplinary festival has gradually become the major cultural spring event in China. Ten years of discovery, sharing, innovation and creativity have contributed to the mutual enrichment of French and Chinese cultures. A true symbol of our cultural relations, the Croisements Festival has become an integral part of the Chinese cultural landscape, gaining the support of the public. Since its inception, it has attracted more than 8 million people throughout China. In 2014, during President Xi Jinping s State visit to France, the presidents of the French Republic and the People s Republic of China pledged to develop exchanges between the peoples of our two countries in the areas of education, academia, science, sport, and of course culture. The Croisements Festival is one of the most iconic ways this is happening, and also one of the most effective. From 10 April to 10 July 2015, Croisements is celebrating a decade of festivals. More than one hundred programmes and four hundred events will unfold in almost 30 cities throughout China. It is a prestigious, ambitious and bold programme structured around ten key disciplines aimed at attracting an ever more discerning audience. Whether it s up-and-coming talent or renowned artists, Croisements 2015 will exhibit outstanding diversity. The Croisements Festival could not take place without the support of our many partners and I would like to take this opportunity to extend heartfelt thanks to them all. Their commitment to culture is exemplary and their contribution to the cultural dialogue between our two countries should be celebrated. 5 8 9 PRÉFACE 前 言 PREFACE Il y a dix ans, grâce aux efforts conjugués des représentants du monde culturel et des diplomates français et chinois, naissait le festival Croisements, qui faisait suite aux «Années croisées France-Chine». Alors que nous venons de fêter le cinquantième anniversaire de l établissement des relations diplomatiques entre nos deux pays, qui a témoigné d une dynamique nouvelle d échanges et coopérations culturelles, nous célébrons le dixième anniversaire du festival Croisements. En dix ans, ce festival s est développé progressivement jusqu'à devenir aujourd hui le plus important festival étranger en Chine et le plus grand festival français organisé à l étranger. Tout au long de ces années, le festival Croisements a offert non seulement de belles occasions aux artistes français et chinois d apprendre les uns des autres, mais aussi, fenêtre ouverte sur la culture française, il a permis à un plus large public chinois de mieux la comprendre. Il est devenu un modèle d échange et de coopération entre les cultures chinoise et étrangères. Il existe un dicton ancien en chinois qui dit «le programme de l année commence au printemps», car le printemps est une saison pleine d activités et d espoir. A l approche du printemps 2015, le rideau du dixième anniversaire du festival Croisements s ouvre. Cette année, le programme du festival Croisements est encore plus riche, les disciplines sont plus nombreuses, et le contenu est encore plus attirant. Il inclut les arts visuels, les nouveaux médias, la musique, la danse, le théâtre etc., soit dix disciplines, une centaine de programmes dans plus de 30 villes en Chine. Je pense que par l épanouissement du festival Croisements, c est la coopération et les échanges entre les institutions culturelles et les artistes français et chinois qui s'intensifient. Le festival Croisements fait partie en 2015 des plus beaux joyaux de la scène culturelle en Chine. Je souhaite sincèrement un grand succès au dixième anniversaire du festival Croisements 2015! A decade later, having just honoured the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries and reaffirmed our commitment to a new wave of cultural cooperation and exchange, we celebrate the tenth anniversary of Croisements Festival. Over the last ten years, we have witnessed the festival s gradual expansion to become today, the largest overseas festival in China and the largest French festival organised overseas. Throughout these years, Croisements Festival has provided French and Chinese artists with a wonderful opportunity to learn from one another and as a window on France, has brought a deeper understanding of French culture to a broader Chinese audience. The festival is now a benchmark in cultural cooperation and exchange between Chinese and overseas cultures. We have an ancient Chinese saying which goes, the programme for the year starts in the spring, - spring is a season full of activity and hope. As Spring 2015 approaches, the curtain will rise on the tenth anniversary of Croisements Festival. This year s Croisements Festival is set to be even richer, more diverse, with an exceptionally attractive programme. It includes the visual arts, new media, music, dance, theatre - in all ten disciplines, a hundred programmes being hosted in more than twenty cities in China. By fostering the development of Croisements Festival, I believe we are strengthening the relations between our cultural institutions and artists from both countries. Croisements Festival is one of the most beautiful landscapes on the Chinese cultural scene this year. C est l occasion de découvrir les installations d un des plus grands artistes de la scène internationale des 20 dernières années. Le parcours montre la dualité de l œuvre de Chen Zhen et de sa conception de la pratique artistique, qui répondent à une observation extérieure du monde et à une introspection plus personnelle et spirituelle. Ses grandes installations, constituées d objets quotidiens et de recyclage d éléments naturels, nous invitent à porter un regard objectif sur le monde contemporain et sur les nouveaux types de problèmes qu il soulève. This will be an opportunity to discover the works of one of the greatest artists on the international scene of the past twenty years. Chen Zhen s career shows the duality of his work, and that of his concept of artistic practice, which responds to an exterior observation of the world and to a more personal and spiritual introspection. Dans la langue française, on exprime souvent les différences de temporalités avec des mots «sensoriels», par exemple des mots évoquant le froid ou le chaud. L oubli est froid comme la mort. Le présent brûle (on parle, par exemple, d une «actualité brûlante») et le désir également (on dit : «je brûle de désir»). Cette exposition voudrait suggérer que la mémoire brûle elle aussi : qu elle n est pas réductible à une collection de souvenirs froidement rangés les uns à côté des autres, mais qu elle est, justement, indissociable du présent et du désir (qui nous tend vers le futur). Le désir des révolutionnaires français en 1789 n était pas dissociable d une mémoire de l Antiquité romaine que portait avec lui le simple mot «république». C est la même chose dans l histoire de l art : on n invente rien en faisant seulement table rase. Pour inventer créer un futur, une situation nouvelle, il faut reconfigurer la mémoire, comme lorsque Marcel Duchamp délaissa la peinture à l huile (une invention de la Renaissance) pour se lancer dans la fabrication du fameux Grand Verre qui utilise exactement la technique du vitrail (une pratique du Moyen Âge). On crée le nouveau non pas en oubliant son passé, mais en repensant sa généalogie d une façon qui puisse échapper aux conformismes aux glaciations d une mémoire qui ne serait plus «vive». Comme le feu, la mémoire nous brûle pour le meilleur ou pour le pire : aux choses du passé elle restitue une chaleur vivante et nécessaire. In the French language, we often express differences in temporality with sensory words - for example, words evoking cold or warmth. That which is forgotten is as cold as death. The present burns (we speak, for example, of a burning topic ), as does desire (we say, I burn with desire ). This exhibition would suggest that memory also burns - that it is not reducible to a collection of souvenirs coldly arranged side by side, but that it is, quite rightly, inseparable from the present and from desire (which propels us towards the future). The desire of the French revolutionaries of 1789 was not separable from the ancient Roman memory that comes with the simple word Republic. It s the same thing in the history of art: we never invent anything by just making a clean break with the past. To invent - create a future, a new situation - it s necessary to reconfigure memory, as when Marcel Duchamp abandoned oil painting (an invention of the Renaissance) in order to throw himself into the making of the famous The Large Glass, which used a very precise stainedglass technique (a practice of the Middle Ages). 19 ARTS VISUELS / 视 觉 艺 术 / VISUAL ART 37 BOUCS AU MOIS DE MAI Exposition de Lionel Sabatté Pour rendre hommage au calendrier chinois et à l année année de la chèvre Lionel Sabatté présente des œuvres qui révèlent un dialogue poétique né des cultures française et chinoise. Les œuvres présentées sont nées de la rencontre de l artiste avec la Chine en 2010 et en 2014, une rencontre culturelle mais aussi sensible et physique. Ainsi les sculptures prennent forme à partir de thé et de pièces de monnaies chinoises anciennes. Ces réalisations d herbivores en matière végétale posent la question de la limite du contour : entre contenant et contenu. L exposition rassemble aussi des peintures sur toile qui mêlent l expérimentation et le fantasmagorique en donnant naissance à des animaux qui correspondent à des critères à la fois naturels et mythiques. Toutes ces créatures viennent des profondeurs abyssales, à la limite de l abstraction, elles sont vivantes mais inconnues. Fortement lié aux forces de la nature, au monde animal et végétal, mais aussi à celui des hommes et des esprits Lionel Sabatté n a de cesse de dialoguer avec la matière. Une pratique pluridisciplinaire qui lui permet une approche sensible du vivant, il s interroge sur la mutation des choses et l évanescence des formes. The exhibited works are the result of when the artist visited China in 2010 and 2014, a cultural meeting, but one that was also both sensitive and physical. In this way, the sculptures take shape from tea and ancient Chinese coins. These herbivorous achievements made from plant material raise the question of boundary outlines between container and content. Un terrain de football à la forme particulière est construit sur une surface enherbée. Quand le jeu devient donc métaphore entre les cultures ou quand les déplacements des codes d un continent à un autre facilitent grandement la porosité à l histoire des autres. A l intention des petits et grands, le dispositif qui s intègre à la nature se veut ludique et poétique à la fois, accessible à tous sans discours superflu. An unusually shaped football pitch has been specially constructed on a grassy surface. Celle-ci voyage depuis plusieurs années en Asie et y participe à des résidences d artiste. Elle s inspire de l univers végétal, perçu comme équilibre dynamique de flux, sèves en mouvement. Sa démarche se décline dans des séries de dessins, peintures, ou installations déployées dans l espace. L artiste entretient avec le végétal un lien profond qui nourrit sa pratique du regard et du dessin. Cette relation intime induit non pas un souci de représentation mais une recherche de symbiose avec l arbre, la branche, la feuille, transcris dans l instant par la main. L artiste laisse se recomposer un agencement guidé par la perception intuitive d une totalité. For many years she has travelled around Asia, taking part in artist residencies. She is inspired by the plant world and perceives it as a dynamic balance of flow, the circulation of sap. Her approach is seen in the series of drawings, paintings and installations throughout the space. The artist feels a deep connection with the plant world and this feeds into her practices and her drawings.
