Bertrand de Jouvenel Si j ai écrit le présent ouvrage, c est que je voulais comprendre et faire comprendre pourquoi tant d approches du développement et du changement organisationnel sont vouées à l échec. D autre part, je souhaitais offrir à ceux et celles qui exercent une fonction dirigeante, que ce soit dans le secteur privé ou public, un concept de management globalisant, assorti d un ensemble de méthodes et de techniques utiles dans la pratique et susceptibles de conduire au développement durable des organisations et à une prise en compte de l éthique. La plupart des méthodes de changement avortent faute de partir du véritable commencement, à savoir du cœur de l identité personnelle. Cet échec est en outre dû au fait que nombre de dirigeants sont insuffisamment centrés sur l action. Malgré l abondance des programmes de formation et le nombre de consultants en management, sans parler de tous les livres qui ne cessent de paraître dans ce domaine, les dirigeants négligent de transformer en action le savoir qu il possèdent déjà ou celui qu il viennent d acquérir. Aux États-Unis, il se publie chaque année un millier de livres dans le domaine du management et on consacre plus de 60 milliards de dollars à des programmes de formation destinés aux cadres d entreprise (voir Pfeffer and Sutton, 2002). Dans bien des cas, ces livres et ces programmes «nouveaux» présentent des lacunes majeures sur le plan du management. Et pourtant, les livres se vendent bien pendant que le prix des formations ne cesse de grimper. Comme je l ai dit dans la préface et dans l introduc-

L auteur Né en 1957, Hubert K. Rampersad est un consultant international réputé dans les domaines du comportement des organisations et le management. Il a fondé et dirige Quality Management Consulting (Pays-Bas) et le réseau mondial Total Performance Scorecard. Il est Docteur en Gestion (Université d Eindhoven), et possède par ailleurs une maîtrise ès sciences en génie mécanique (Institut Polytechnique d Enschede). Hubert Rampersad est l auteur de plusieurs ouvrages et de nombreux articles. Total Performance Scorecard, réconcilier l homme et l entreprise, a été traduit en vingt langues. L article «Liens entre apprentissage individuel, apprentissage collectif et éthique») (Vol. 17 n 1, Emerald) a obtenu le prix du " meilleur article pour le développement des méthodes de formation et de management en 2003". L auteur est membre du comité éditorial de la revue Training and Management Development Methods, publiée par Emerald (Grande-Bretagne), et conseil de la rédaction de la revue Singapore Management Review. Il a été professeur à : la Faculté de technologie, de sciences et de sciences sociales de l Université Anton de Kom au Surinam, en tant que professeur en management et de technologie, l Université de management de Rotterdam, Pays-Bas, en tant que chargé d enseignement en gestion des opérations ; la Faculté de management des technologies à l Université de technologie d Eindhoven, Pays-Bas, en tant que chargé d enseignement en technologie de la production.
