GCSE Revison: present, perfect, imperfect or future? To show skill in the language and to get high marks in the exam you MUST show skill with verb tenses. Doing well on the writing paper is largely about recycling simple language and adapting it to the question. Translate these sentences the verb to use is given in brackets. St albans, 3 avril Bonjour! Ma région est assez belle et en général j aime y habiter. Il y a beaucoup de chose à faire, on peut aller à Londres et il y a plein de magasins. Malheureusement, il n y a pas de cinéma et il y a trop de pollution en ville. Le week-end dernier, je suis allé en ville pour faire du shopping. Dans la rue principale, il y a un magasin de musique, des cafés, des magasins de vêtements, et bien sûr, des supermarchés. J ai acheté un DVD et un nouveau jean. (Higher level only) This higher question is asking you to write about hobbies. You need to: Use the Imperfect tense to say what you used to do when you were younger. Say what your hobbies are now, using the present tense Give opinions about young people and hobbies. Do you think young people are lazy now? Say whether you think young people watch too much TV. Use the conditional tense to say what you would do if you had more time. Use a nice variety of phrases Use connectives to link your sentences together Have a go at completing the more complicated writing question. Use the A/A* checklist to give you ideas of what to include.
Listening Revision Speaking Revision 1) Check you know what is expected of you for your exam. Look at www.edexcel.org.uk or ask your teacher if you are unsure. 2) Check you know all the key vocabulary for each topic. 3) Try some online listening practice from one of the suggested websites. Writing Revision 1) Check you can name 10 animals/ colours/ sports/school subjects etc 2) Can you refer to past, present and future events? 3) Can you talk about other people? 4) Can you give opinions? 5) Use the checklists given to you by your teacher and look at the web-based materials. 6) Mind-map each topic area by starting with a key word and then using it in a sentence and building up to a longer written answer. 1) Ensure you have filled in all of your speaking booklet. Download a new one from the Verulam website if you ve lost yours. 2) For French, there are example answers for Higher and Foundation. 3) Use every opportunity in your language lessons to practise. Put your hand up and have a go. 4) Extra lunchtime speaking practice may be available near the exam. Reading Revision 1) Check you know the key vocabulary for each topic. 2) Make sure you can recognise the difference between different tenses 3) Look out for key words often you don t need to understand every word. 4) Practise! Use the online materials. Remember to revise smartly!!
