This film attempts to bring together Yann Arthus-Bertrand s trademark aerial view of the world with the harsh, everyday reality of all those people who are deprived of water and may even die for lack of it, the people engaged in the daily struggle to find water, purify or bring it to those who need it. The film is based on a host of encounters. A shepherd from north Kenya tells us he has killed for water and would do so again. Women dance when water finally arrives in their village. Regreening the desert For more than 15 years, Cameraman and Ecologist John D. Liu has been working on his worldwide mission to green deserts and to restore biodiversity. It all started in 1995 when Liu filmed the Loess-plateau in China. He witnessed a local population as they turned an area from a dry, exhausted wasteland into one green oasis. This experience changed his life. From that moment on, Liu has been travelling all over the world to convince and inspire government leaders, policy-makers and farmers with his film material and knowledge. Liu diligently spreads the message that restoration of ecosystems is not only possible, but makes a grear deal of economic sense. Backlight accompanies Liu on his mission in Jordan and shows, on the basis of Liu s own film material, that a green future is possible worldwide. Reverdir le désert John D. Liu, caméraman et écologiste, a sillonné le monde entier pendant plus de quinze ans pour atteindre son objectif : revitaliser le désert et rétablir la biodiversité. Tout a commencé en 1995, lors d un tournage sur le Loess Plateau en Chine, où Liu a vu la population locale transformer toute une zone aride et désolée en un oasis verdoyant.
