CANEX and SISIP Financial continue to be significant drivers in supporting CFMWS programs for the benefit of CAF serving members and their families. Substantial contributions of the net profits made each year go directly to CFMWS. As divisions of the CAF Morale and Welfare services (46 years for SISIP and 47 years for CANEX), CANEX and SISIP have always endeavored to enhance the quality of life for CAF members by contributing to a vast array of activities and initiatives that serve CAF members. This cheque serves as a reminder to all CAF members that by shopping at CANEX and by subscribing to services through SISIP, you are directly contributing back to the CFB Borden military community. 3 The end of the tunnel BY PAR LEIGHSAH MILLWARD Citoyen Borden Citizen Flashing lights and the unique sound of bagpipes were seen and heard travelling down Cambrai Road at CFB Borden, last Friday, October 16. The men and women of the Canadian Forces Military Police Academy lowered the flags on Friday at their old residence off Maintenance Rd for the last time. Over the past year, construction has been underway in anticipation of this moment. With a final salute as they marched by the monument at the old location, the Branch set off under escort in a parade towards a new future, in the brand new Col Stone Building at 538 Cambrai Road. For the Branch it signifies a passage from our old infrastructure, an old way of doing business, to a new, modern facility, full of possibilities and highlighting the professionalism of the Military Police Branch, commented Maj Adam Battista, Commandant of the Academy, during the ceremonies. The Military Police parade smartly approached the new building, pride evident Vendredi dernier, le 16 octobre, si vous avez circulé sur la route Cambrai dans la BFC Borden, vous avez certainement vu des feux clignotants et entendu le son bien particulier de la cornemuse. To start things off on the right foot, the first order of business was to present Commandant coins to Lt (N) Chris Hale, for outstanding leadership skills that were critical in the successful relocation of the Academy, to Rachel Griese, Fitness Instructor, for her outstanding work in developing a physical training program for the Academy, and finally to Col Tony Battista (ret), former Commandant of the Academy, for his hard work in pursuing the much needed infrastructure upgrade over many years. It is absolutely unbelievable to see where we are right now, all of these things are because of you, because of the hard work you have dedicated, the hours you have put in, and the profound professionalism you have shown over the past 10 days, commented Maj Battista. There are absolutely no words to describe how proud and thankful I am to all of you, the only thing I can say from the bottom of my heart is thank you. 11 Members of the Military Police Unit Borden will be patrolling the streets of the family housing areas from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Halloween evening. Like every year, Military Police personnel will be paying special attention to traffic and safety issues to keep everyone safe. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic will no doubt be heavy this year too. Motorists are therefore urged to slow down and to be patient. If your doors aren't properly fitted, warm air is leaking outside. Rubber weather stripping is an easy way to seal the door by creating a skirt on the door frame. Close off air registers in unused areas or rooms. Make sure your furnace is running smoothly. Check intake and exhaust air vents to make sure they are clear. Inspect the filter by holding it up to a light bulb. If you can't see the bulb, it's time for a new filter. Clear the area around your furnace to ensure it is ventilated with ample circulation of fresh air. Set your furnace fan switch on automatic instead of on or continuous.
