Summary: The first semester is a customized course for Waseda students only, leading to 15 credits, concentrating first on language skills in French, then on seminars in French : introduction to French Society and Culture with many visits (museums, monuments, followed by written assignments), and finally opening out onto Europe through classes on French and European economics and politics. The second semester is the University s DEUF diploma course leading to 15 credits in which the students will attend classes (in English) with other International students, and classes (in French) with French and International students doing degree courses in Management, Law and the Arts. We provide individual transcripts of attendance with letter grades obtained. The second semester DEUF Diploma Course organized by the International Relations Department comprises choices (according to the student s level, the student s academic interests, and the number of credits required by the student s home university) of subjects in Management (economics, marketing, finance, international trade etc ) Law (Business law, Civil law, International law, European law etc ) and Arts (History, Geography, Philosophy, Foreign languages including the possibility of lectures in English on English Literature, Linguistics and Social Studies). 4 Opportunities for Learning Through Experience Throughout the year Waseda students will have full access together with French students to all university facilities and services (sporting, leisure, entertainment and cultural activities). Waseda students can also meet and exchange with French students who are studying Japanese in Lyon3 From October to May, they will have the opportunity to maintain their level in English and obtain extra credits by following, in addition to the 220 hrs of French tuition and the 120 hrs of tutoring, an optional 50-hr course (one 2-hr session per week) in English in the Adult education department section with a teacher specialized in teaching English as a foreign language. Waseda students taking this option will be placed after a level test in small groups with young and not-so-young adults learning, brushing up, or maintaining their English. There are some 30 groups, spread over 10 levels from Beginner 1 (Introduction) to Advanced 2 (Mastery). This will enable them to see how English is taught in Adult Education in France (it is very informal, practical, and based on training to communicate even if mistakes are made). It will also provide an opportunity to meet and work with French-speaking learners. Facilitation Plan During the first semester (the Customized course organized by the Adult Education Department on the Site des Quais) the students will have classes in the immediate vicinity of the coordinator s office and the Adult Education Reception Desk which is open from 8 to 12 and from 2 to 6. Students generally make contact with the Coordinator through the tutors at first, but they also like to come in and greet the Adult Education administrative staff at breaks. 5 Accommodation is in private student halls of residence, with services, which are only a short distance from the University. The rent is approximately 530 euros per month for a furnished studio flat of 20 square meters, with kitchenette and bathroom. From the second month, it may be possible to apply for rent relief (APL), amounting to about 150 euros per month, provided that the current legislation does not change. Full meals can be taken in university restaurants for a price of 3. Lyon has very many restaurants, where you can eat from about 10 upwards.
