Le mode de vie s en trouve modifié aux États-Unis. Les petites voitures économiques existent, mais les passagers sont-ils bien protégés? Transcript Presenter: With oil prices riding record highs, motorists are on the look out for more fuel efficient vehicles. At 41 highway miles to the gallon, the Smart Car could save you a bundle at the pump, but is it as safe as it is efficient? Alina Cho reports. Alina Cho: In a 40 mile an hour crash, the light weight Smart Car spins around, but the dummy inside stays relatively intact. The Smart Car Fortwo got the highest rating in the Insurance Institute for Highway safety s front crash test. Adrian Lund: The Smart engineers have done a good job at getting as much safety as they can into a small package. Alina Cho: Larger cars like this Ford Fusion have a bigger crush cell to protect passengers in a frontal crash, but researchers believe the Smart Car s design compensates in other ways. Adrian Lund: The seatbelt and the airbag inside has to do much more work to protect the occupant from hitting something very hard in the vehicle. Alina Cho: The Smart Car also got high marks for side crash protection, and was rated acceptable in preventing whiplash in rear crashes. Still bigger cars tend to be safer. Adrian Lund: Larger and heavier cars given the same safety features can protect you better than smaller lightweight cars. Alina Cho: Proving that when it comes to safety, smart design makes all the difference. Il est possible de traiter cette séquence à plusieurs niveaux, en fonction de l objectif choisi. Pour des classes de 6 e (fin d année) et de 5 e, il est préférable dans un premier temps de travailler sans le son, de pratiquer la lecture d image (très riche en procédant à plusieurs arrêts sur image). 1. À partir de l image figée (Say everything you can), on conduira les élèves à produire le maximum d énoncés qui apparaîtront dans la première activité de la fiche et en fin de séance dans la trace écrite (pouvant figurer dans le cahier). On arrêtera ensuite l image sur la présentatrice, image sur laquelle une bonne classe de 6 e pourra produire des énoncés élaborés. 2. Phase d enrichissement du lexique. On fournira le vocabulaire indiqué plus haut (spidergram, transparent au rétroprojecteur, fiche ). On fera trouver les contraires des adjectifs, en utilisant la seconde partie de la fiche d activités. 3. En utilisant le crash test des deux voitures, on fera produire des énoncés portant sur le degré de l adjectif (fin de 6 e ou réactivation en 5 e ). On procédera ensuite à une phase d observation réfléchie de la langue sur ce point. 4. En utilisant le son, on fera compléter le texte à trous de l activité suivante. 5. En expression orale, niveau 5 e, on pourra, en utilisant la grille de l activité 6 qui aura été complétée en projetant le site Smart USA FAQ, mener une activité d interaction professeur/élève ou élève/élève, et soit impliquer le reste de la classe en évaluation, soit mettre une partie de la classe en autonomie (recherche de vocabulaire dans le dictionnaire, exercice grammatical de fixation sur le degré de l adjectif, tiré du manuel...).
