3 rd ASE Board Meeting in Istanbul By Herbert Ewers For our first board meeting in 2013 we had the pleasure to travel to Turkey. The Turkish Senators lead by Ali Akal #55258, Necati Turker #56695, Gamze Turker #57880 and Tarık Aytekin #67729 organized a perfect weekend for the ASE Board. Most of us already arrived on Wednesday, February 6 th, so we had the chance to explore Istanbul in different ways. Organized by Dekon there was a tour In Trace of Christianity visiting a lot of interesting places by bus. My wife Ilka, Chris Read #50259 and me decided to explore Istanbul on our own. Starting our tour with the subway followed by a historical tram and a funicular we arrived at the Galata Bridge and the historical part of Istanbul. Fortunately the whether was really nice with sunshine and up to 14 C. We had the chance to visit the Galata tower, the spice market and the New Mosque before we had lunch together with IPP Ulrich Kistner #58860 and his wife in the beautiful Hamdi Restaurant with a stunning view on the Golden Horn. After lunch we visited the Chora, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful surviving examples of a Byzantine church. In the evening we were invited by the Turkish Senators to the excellent Venge Restaurant for an extraordinary dinner. Friday was the day for the Byzantine & Ottoman Relics Tour with highlights like the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, the Topcapi Palace and the Grand Bazar with it s more than 1400 shops. Unfortunately the whether changed to rain and 5 C. But we enjoyed all the great impressions anyway.
Pour notre première réunion de Bureau en 2013, nous avons eu le plaisir de nous rendre en Turquie. Les sénateurs turcs sous la houlette de Ali Akal # 55258, Necati Turker # 56695, Gamze Turker # 57880 et Tarık Aytekin # 67729 ont organisé un week end parfait à l occasion de ce «Board Meeting». La plupart d'entre sont arrivés dès le mercredi 6 Février, ce qui nous a permis d'explorer Istanbul de différentes manières. La firme Dekon organisait une visite riche et passionnante "Sur les traces du Christianisme". Mon épouse Ilka, Chris Read # 50259 et moi même avons décidé d'explorer Istanbul par nos propres moyens. Après avoir pris le métro nous avons emprunté un tramway ancien puis un funiculaire et nous sommes arrivés au pont de Galata et dans le quartier historique d'istanbul. Heureusement, le temps était clément, ensoleillé et la température autour de 14 C. Nous avons eu la chance de visiter la tour de Galata, le marché aux épices et la Nouvelle Mosquée avant de déjeuner ensemble en compagnie de l immédiat Past Président de l ASE Ulrich Kistner # 58860 et de son épouse au superbe restaurant Hamdi qui bénéficie d une vue imprenable sur la Corne d'or. Après le déjeuner, nous avons visité la Chora, qui est considéré comme l'un des plus beaux exemples survivants d'église byzantine. Dans la soirée, nous avons été invités par les sénateurs turcs au restaurant Venge, un endroit parfait pour un dîner extraordinaire. Vendredi était le jour du circuit "Reliques byzantines et ottomanes» avec des endroits remarquables comme la Mosquée Bleue, Sainte Sophie, le Palais de Topcapi et le Grand Bazar qui compte plus de 1400 magasins. Malheureusement, le temps a tourné à la pluie et la température est tombée à 5 C. Mais, peu importe, cela n a pas gâché notre plaisir devant ces merveilles.
3 ème Réunion du Bureau de l ASE à Istanbul The evening was a great surprise. We were brought to the Kervansaray Restaurant where we enjoyed nice dinner and a great show with belly dancers and other artists. The evening ended with disco dancing (not belly dancing ; ) ) of most of the participants. The board meeting was held on Saturday. Beside the usual agenda we had the pleasure to welcome as special guests: #55258 Ali Akal (ASE Past President) #67729 Tarık Aytekin (JCI Turkey Senate President 2012) #68192 Ozgur Solakoglu (JCI Turkey Senate President 2013) #69141 Hande Karadag #62429 Ayla Erdim #69159 Ismail Haznedar (Executive Assistant to WP Chiara)
In the afternoon we had the possibility to visit the Grand Bazaar again for some great bargains. Ilka and I took the opportunity for a Bosporus Tour. The weekend ended with the Gala Dinner in a fish restaurant at the Bosporus where a lot of Turkish Senators attended. Again we got served excellent food and drinks. President Margaretha took the chance to thank the Turkish Senate in a short speech for their great hospitality and the organizing of the event. La soirée du vendredi a été une grande surprise. Nous avons conduits au restaurant Kervansaray où nous avons dégusté un bon dîner et participé à un grand spectacle avec des danseuses du ventre et autres artistes. La soirée s'est terminée pour la majorité des participants par de la danse «disco» (pas de la danse du ventre; )). La réunion du Bureau a eu lieu le samedi. En plus de l'ordre du jour habituel, nous avons eu le plaisir d'accueillir en tant qu'invités spéciaux : # 55258 Ali Akal (Ancien président de l ASE) # 67729 Tarık Aytekin (JCI Turquie, président du Sénat 2012) # 68192 Ozgur Solakoglu (JCI Turquie, président du Sénat 2013) # 69141 Hande Karadag # 62429 Ayla Erdim # 69159 Ismail Haznedar (Assistant Exécutif de la Présidente Mondiale Chiara).
Dans l'après midi nous avons eu la possibilité de visiter une fois de plus le Grand Bazar pour négocier quelques bonnes affaires. Ilka et moi en avons profité pour faire une excursion au Bosphore. Le week end s'est terminé par le dîner de gala dans un restaurant de poissons sur le Bosphore en compagnie de nombreux sénateurs turcs. Encore une fois le repas et les boissons qui nous ont été servis étaient excellents. La Présidente Margaretha en a profité pour remercier par un bref discours le Sénat turc de son hospitalité et pour l organisation de l évènement. Dimanche après le petit déjeuner le temps était venu de rentrer à la maison. Ce fut un week end impressionnant dans une grande ville avec beaucoup de bons amis.
