Mots de la directrice Jessie Iwasiw Twenty five years of service to the low-income community calls out for a celebration. We are proud to have been able to assist thousands of families and individuals in need. I am retiring now, after fifteen years as the Executive Director, and it gives me great satisfaction to look back over the history of the clinic and to realize what a difference we have made in the daily lives of so many people. The staff of our clinic has made all of this possible and I want to thank them for their profound commitment. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has made a contribution in any capacity to our clinic throughout the years. The clinic looks forward to future collaborations with you. Merci. 23 rd Annual General Meeting 5:30 p.m. The Board of Directors meets with members of the community to discuss Clinic affairs as well as to vote for new board members.
Each ending brings a new beginning; a new chapter, if you will. Although your presence will surely be missed, we are excited for you to start writing your next chapter and look forward to hearing about your new endeavours. We wish to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for your guidance and patience as our Director and friend. As an attentive gardener, you not only planted flowers, but also planted your wisdom in us which we will carry forward in our new chapters. Judy Kevin Marie Lisa Tammy L histoire Clinic history In the mid 1980 s, a committee of francophone citizens set forth to expand French language services in the Windsor and Essex County region. With the approval of what was then called the Clinic Funding Committee of the Ontario Legal Aid Plan ( a dministered by the Law Society of Upper Canada), a Bilingual Legal Clinic was established and opened its doors in 1987. Its Letters Patent were granted on February 22, 1988 and the names of its founding members are listed herein. The original staff included Executive Director/Lawyer, Jacques Chartrand; Staff Lawyer, Terry Guerriero; Community Legal Worker, Lucienne Bushnell; and Secretary/Receptionist, Marie Laforge. Throughout the past 25 years, the clinic has evolved and has seen staff members come and go with the exception of Marie Laforge who became Office Manager and has devoted her career to maintaining the administration and functioning of the clinic. The clinic continued to receive support from the CFC until it was rolled into the new corporation of Legal Aid Ontario. With that, over seventy provincial clinics have seen an impact financially. They obtained better equipment, furnishings, training and salary increases. With the leadership of the Association for Community Legal Clinics of Ontario, the clinics are able to maintain that standard in order to push forward and provide high quality services within their respective communities.
