2 Our Mission The Certified General Accountants Association of New Brunswick provides leadership in maintaining high quality education and professional services to its members within the global business environment in order to protect the public interest. 3 A n n u a l Report Rapport a nnuel P a ge 2 President and Executive Director Report Rapport de la présidente et de la directrice générale We are pleased to present the Annual Report for the year Our Board continues to work very diligently towards the execution of responsibilities that fall from the Strategic Plan, Let s Speak Out. We continued to strive for better brand recognition and public awareness through new key partnerships with non-profit and higher education institutions. We launched our Association s first TV advertising campaign using the National We See More than Numbers branding materials in the Spring of 21, with much success and recognition in our region. Recent public polls suggest that CGA as a brand is gaining positive recognition of our designation through these mirrored campaigns across the country. In terms of growing and sustaining our membership, we continue to work toward growing a sound preferred employer program with the employers in the Province. We greatly improved our communications with our members through technological changes. Our members now receive online newsletters, employment and volunteer opportunities, as well as relevant and timely CGA-Canada updates on research articles and professional information. We have refreshed the French portal of our website, and created a new pilot mentorship web presence for students and new members looking for some career guidance or general support from existing members. We hope it will become a wellused networking mechanism for both students and members alike. Nous sommes heureuses de présenter le rapport annuel Notre Conseil d administration continue de travailler fort pour s acquitter de ses responsabilités en vertu du Plan stratégique intitulé «Faisons-nous entendre». Nous continuons de faire connaître notre titre et de sensibiliser le public à notre profession grâce à de nouveaux partenariats avec des organismes sans but lucratif et des établissements d enseignement supérieur. Au printemps 21, nous avons lancé notre première campagne de publicité télévisée en utilisant le matériel de la campagne nationale «Comptez sur notre vision». Cette campagne a permis d augmenter notre notoriété dans notre région. Selon de récents sondages, le public connaît de mieux en mieux le titre de CGA grâce aux campagnes jumelles de nos associations dans le pays. Pour augmenter et soutenir nos effectifs, nous continuons notre travail pour bâtir un solide programme de partenaires en emploi avec des employeurs de la province. Nous avons amélioré nos communications avec nos membres grâce à des changements technologiques. Nos membres reçoivent en ligne notre bulletin, des annonces d emplois et de possibilités de bénévolat et des mises à jour de CGA-Canada sur les recherches et autres renseignements. Nous avons rafraîchi le portail de notre site Web en français et lancé un projet de mentorat pour les étudiants et les nouveaux membres qui veulent obtenir les conseils ou l appui général de membres plus anciens. Nous espérons que ce service Web deviendra un outil de réseautage populaire auprès des étudiants et des membres. Of course, professional development remains paramount to our continued success in our fields of expertise, and the Association, as well as CGA- Canada have offered a variety of blended learning opportunities through a multitude of high quality online webinars, face to face chapter and conference workshops (Spring and Fall), as well as very insightful technical research offered through print materials (CGA-Canada magazine, Personal Tax Planning booklet, and CGA Canada Research papers some of which has been cited by the national news programs). C est pourquoi notre Association et CGA-Canada ont offert diverses possibilités d apprentissage sous forme de webinaires de haute qualité et d ateliers à des sections ou lors de nos conférences (au printemps et à l automne), ainsi que des renseignements sur des recherches techniques pertinentes sous forme de documents (par exemple le CGA Magazine, le livret Planification fiscale personnelle et les rapports de recherche de CGA-Canada dont certains ont été mentionnés aux nouvelles nationales).

4 P a ge A n n u a l Report Rapport annuel On an operational level, CGA-NB said best wishes and farewell to our Director of Marketing and Student Recruitment, Luc Page, and welcomed new staff to our Administration- Annie Poirier. Our Association offered congratulations to both Quebec and Ontario affiliates on the achievement of Public Practice rights for their membership through their respective provincial regulatory bodies. History has been made. As always, we rely heavily on our Chapter Boards, members, and students for assistance with our ongoing exam coordination, conference coordination, and local events that help to build our brand at the grass roots level in our communities. A personal thank you to the CGA-NB Board of Governors for your dedication to our Association and friendship throughout my term as Chair. These include: An addition to the Policies and Procedures Manual that describes how decisions of the Discipline Committee will be communicated to the membership; An addition to the Policies and Procedures Manual that describes how public practice reviews will be relayed to public practitioners; Discussion on whether to amend our year-end or readjust our AGM to address certain perceived deficiencies of the new Board cycle; Discussion on whether to create a fund for unforeseen expenditures or strategic initiatives; Comment on a draft Public Accounting Regulation prepared by CGA-Canada. Le Comité s est penché sur les questions suivantes pendant l année et a communiqué au Conseil d administration les résultats de ses délibérations : un ajout au Manuel des politiques et procédures qui décrit comment les décisions du Comité de discipline doivent être communiquées aux membres; un ajout au Manuel des politiques et procédures qui décrit comment les inspections sur les experts-comptables doivent être présentées aux experts-comptables; une discussion sur la pertinence de modifier notre exercice financier ou de déplacer notre AGA pour régler certains problèmes perçus concernant le nouveau cycle de fonctionnement du Conseil; une discussion sur la pertinence de créer un fonds pour dépenses imprévues ou projets stratégiques; observations sur un projet de règlement sur l expertise comptable de CGA-Canada. Membership - Membres CGA NB welcomed 35 new members to our Association, one of the larger Admission to Membership ceremonies in years. As a result of our targeted marketing, we continue to attract strong candidates to our program. 6 P a ge Annual Report Rapport annuel Marketing and Public Relations Marketing et relations publiques CGA NB had representation at various career fairs including the Université de Moncton and UNB Fredericton. We continue our efforts to have representation at as many of these functions as practicable as we feel a continuing presence is necessary for the best impact. Promotion of the accounting profession at the high school level continues to be a joint effort between the three accounting associations. We were present at the Université de Moncton - Shippagan Campus where more than 1, students from different schools in the area were in attendance. A television campaign was launched in the winter highlighting our change in media preference to promote our message. The campaign was a partnership effort with CGA Canada and was shown on CBC and CTV during frequently watched news programs and a couple of popular game shows during the early evening. We also ran various radio spots during the winter months. This was a high exposure event for CGA NB and appeared to be very well received. The Marketing Committee has also reviewed our website content and presentation and investigated opportunities for increased use of the internet to promote the CGA brand. We were very pleased to announce our participation in the Atlantic Dream Festival to be held this October in Moncton. CGA NB, partnering with our other Atlantic affiliates and CGA Canada are registered Gold sponsors for this very high profile event. We will receive national media coverage and logo positioning on stage when speakers such as Sir Richard Branson speak. CGA-NB a participé à divers salons de l emploi, notamment à l Université de Moncton et à la UNB à Fredericton. Nous essayons de participer au plus grand nombre possible d activités du genre, car nous pensons qu une présence soutenue est nécessaire pour produire des résultats optimaux. Les trois associations de comptables de la région poursuivent leur collaboration pour promouvoir la profession de comptable auprès des élèves du niveau secondaire. Nous avons d ailleurs assisté à un salon de l emploi au campus de Shippagan de l Université de Moncton qui a attiré plus de 1 élèves des écoles secondaires des alentours. En partenariat avec CGA-Canada, nous avons lancé une campagne de publicité télévisée pendant l hiver pour nous faire connaître d une manière différente. Nos annonces ont passé à la CBC et à CTV pendant des bulletins de nouvelles de grande écoute et quelques jeux télévisés populaires en début de soirée. Nous avons aussi fait passer diverses annonces à la radio au cours de l hiver. Ces importants efforts de marketing de la part de CGA-NB semblent avoir été très bien accueillis. Le Comité de marketing a révisé le contenu et l apparence de notre site Web et exploré des possibilités d utiliser davantage Internet pour promouvoir le titre de CGA. C est avec joie que nous avons annoncé notre participation au Festival du rêve de l Atlantique qui aura lieu en octobre à Moncton. Ensemble, CGA- NB, ses affiliés des autres provinces de l Atlantique et CGA-Canada seront un commanditaire or de ce grand événement. Nous bénéficierons d une couverture médiatique nationale, et notre logo sera affiché lors des discours des conférenciers, dont Sir Richard Branson est du nombre. 7 A n n u a l Report Rapport a nnuel P a ge 6 Professional Development and Chapters Perfectionnement professionnel et sections We continue to support our mandate in providing professional development opportunities to our members whether it is through PDnet, webinars or conferences. Another successful conference with excellent professional development opportunities was held in Saint John this past year, as well as a successful Atlantic Regional Spring Conference which was hosted by CGA-NS. The Association is represented by eight chapters on a regional basis. During the past year we held joint chapter presidents meetings as a means of discussing networking opportunities and shared communication messages. National Professional Standards Normes professionnelles nationales Our representative on the National professional Standards Committee is Kevin Hoyt, CGA. During the year, this committee reviewed a number of standards and initiatives. Highlights include: The reestablishment of the Public Accounting Task Force; Amendments to the National Public Practice Review Standard primarily as a result of the new Canadian Auditing Standards; Various amendments to the Code of Ethical Principles and Rules of Conduct dealing with matters such as pro bono services and changes to ethical standards for members in business; There were also various discussions and reports of matters of a more strategic focus such as the development of a national Public Accounting Regulation. 8 P a ge Annual Report Rapport annuel National Affairs - Affaires nationales The year has been an active and very productive year for CGA Canada. This was the year where full public practice rights for members of CGA Quebec and CGA Ontario moved from a dream to reality. As a result of many years of hard work and dedicated staff and volunteers, CGA Quebec and CGA Ontario can now grant public practice licenses to their members. This reunites our members from coast-to-coast in the area of public practice and public auditing. This year also marked the beginning of a national advertising campaign and a massive branding effort by CGA Canada and all its affiliates. Again all our affiliates reunited under a national brand and consistent messaging. CGA Canada continues to lead the profession with the launch of research documents and papers. This year three significant papers were launched with great up take by the media. On the international front CGA Canada continues to work with other bodies with whom we have signed MRA's and have launched round table discussion documents. This was done in Great Brittan and in Ottawa with the ACCA, then in Australia and in Ottawa with CPA Australia and later this fall we will partner in Dublin and in Ottawa with CPA Ireland. CGA Canada signed another MRA (Mutual Recognition Agreement) this time with l'ordre des Experts Comptables Français. We continue to have CGA members on other boards and executive committees such as ICAC, IFAC, FI- DEF and CAPA. CGA Canada was recognized yet again as a top employer in British Columbia and in Canada and was also recognized as one of the top Green Employers in Canada. C est au cours de cette année que les membres de CGA-Québec et de CGA-Ontario ont concrétisé leur rêve d obtenir le plein droit d exercer l expertise comptable. Après des années de travail acharné de la part de leurs employés et bénévoles, ces associations peuvent enfin délivrer des permis d expertise comptable à leurs membres. Nos membres d un océan à l autre ont maintenant tous le même accès aux secteurs de l expertise comptable et de la vérification publique. En 29-21, CGA-Canada et tous ses affiliés ont lancé une campagne nationale de publicité et déployé de grands efforts pour mieux faire connaître la profession. Tous les affiliés se sont donc concertés pour transmettre le même message pour rehausser notre image de marque. CGA-Canada continue de guider la profession en publiant des rapports de recherche. Cette année, trois importants rapports de recherche ont été rendus publics et ont fait l objet d une bonne couverture médiatique. Au niveau international, CGA-Canada continue de travailler avec les organismes avec lesquels elle a conclu des ententes de reconnaissance mutuelle et publié des rapports de tables rondes. Cela s est notamment produit au Royaume-Uni et à Ottawa avec l ACCA et en Australie et à Ottawa avec CPA Australia. Plus tard cette année, l Association réalisera un autre partenariat à Dublin avec CPA Ireland. Elle a aussi conclu une entente de reconnaissance mutuelle avec l'ordre des expertscomptables français. CGA-Canada a des représentants à divers conseils d administration et comités exécutifs, par exemple ceux des organismes suivants : ICAC, IFAC, FIDEF et CAPA. Notre Association nationale a encore une fois été nommée parmi les meilleurs employeurs de la Colombie-Britannique et du Canada et a aussi été reconnue comme l un des employeurs les plus écologiques du pays. Actual results could differ from those estimates. c) Financial Instruments Short-term financial instruments are classified as held for trading. Held for trading financial assets or liabilities are reported at fair value at each balance sheet date, and any change in fair value is recognized in revenues and expenses in the period during which the change occurs. Long term investments are classified as available for sale. They are reported at fair value at each balance sheet date, and any change in fair value is recognized in the Statement of change in net assets. 2. Accounts Receivable O ther receivable $1 373 $2 53 $ $ National Assessment The assessment from the Certified General Accountants' Association of Canada for the current financial year was $27 per member ($27 per member for the 28/29 year). 4. Scholarship Trust Fund The Association established a charitable trust fund to provide scholarships to students graduating from New Brunswick universities and community colleges. 5. CGASS Agreement Under an agreement with CGA Student Services Maritime Region Inc., CGA-NB has transferred its authority to CGASS to provide education programs to its students. Operating surpluses are the property of the member provinces. The following schedule details the changes in CGA-NB's portion of CGASS's Equity as reported in CGASS's June 3, 29 and 28 audited financial statements. These amounts are NOT included in CGA-NB's Members' Equity in these financial statements. Accord conclu avec SECGA Un accord conclu avec Services aux étudiants CGA Région Maritimes Inc. accorde à cette dernière les pouvoirs de CGA-NB visant la formation de ses étudiants. SECGA a accumulé des excédents d'exploitation qui appartiennent aux associations provinciales membres. Le tableau suivant présente la modification de la quote-part de CGA-NB de l'avoir de SECGA tel qu'il a été déclaré dans les états financiers vérifiés de SECGA en date du 3 juin 29 et 28.
