1 Un dialogue des sociétés pour relever ensemble les défis du monde contemporain. En 25 ans la Chine a retrouvé une place considérable dans les échanges mondiaux. Ses rapports avec l Europe, longtemps source d humiliations, suscitent aujourd hui un puissant intérêt mais aussi des préoccupations. Le défi que pose à l Europe l émergence de la Chine comme ceux que la mondialisation leur pose en commun méritent, de part et d autre, effort de compréhension et de coopération faute de quoi seraient à craindre des replis dommageables. De plus, nombre de défis de l Europe sont en passe de devenir ceux de la Chine contemporaine ; ils y provoquent interrogations et débats dont la teneur concerne toutes les sociétés. Barroso While actively engaging in the organizing work of the Second China-Europa Forum, as president of Renmin University of China, primary organizer of the Chinese side, I would like to render my sincere gratitude to you. Your supports and congratulations for the forum indicate your appreciation of this momentous historic event and your forward-looking positioning of European Union in the global restructuring. As you have written in the letter to the founder of this forum, former Prime Minister of France, Mr. Michel Rocard, the European Union highly regard Sino-European relations, especially dialogue between the two peoples, and that this trend attributes much to initiatives like China-Europa Forum. In this acceleratingly globalizing world, human societies are facing complex and intertwined challenges and crises, which summon conscientious people to assemble and reach mutual understanding through dialogues, and to offer solutions for the common dilemmas we are facing. As a university aiming at cultivating the future leaders of the society, we feel obligated to render our support for this comprehensive dialogue, which encompasses governments, enterprises, scholars, artists, and NGOs. Since the first China-Europa Forum in October, 2005, we as organizer have deepened understanding for this forum together with Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation for Human Progress and other cooperation parters, and endeavored to make a difference in terms of object setting, mechanism for participant selection from ordinary international conference. Facing global ecological, ethnical and identificational crises, China-Europa Forum aims at elevating the sense of community as human s sole homeworld. From the Chinese persipecitve, to participate this forum is a challenging practice of engaging the world and taking part in global civil governance. Hence, with the participation of you and other brilliant participants from all fields of Europa, I believe the China-Europa Forum would form an important framework for China-Europa dialogue and a new transcending community for thoughts.
