2 Produire au Sud Nantes 2008 Médiathèque Jacques Demy L atelier Produire au Sud accompagne depuis 8 ans les producteurs d Asie, d Afrique et d Amérique Latine dans l apprentissage et l accompagnement de leur métier. Car si ces cinématographies nous sont devenues familières et ont trouvé leur place dans les circuits professionnels européens, elles demeurent néanmoins fragiles et il est nécessaire de les soutenir avec passion et détermination. L organisation, depuis 2004, d ateliers Produire au Sud à l étranger en complément du rendezvous nantais, a favorisé de nombreux échanges et le rapprochement du programme avec des institutions et festivals étrangers. Cette reconnaissance nous permet d imaginer tous les ans de nouvelles destinations, de nouveaux ateliers au service de cinématographies toujours en mouvement, et de tenter de cerner la diversité de demain. L atelier Produire au Sud accueille cette année sept projets de longs-métrages représentés par leur producteur et leur réalisateur et deux jeunes productrices algériennes en auditrice libres. Accompagnés de professionnels français et européens de l industrie cinématographique, les participants aborderont les enjeux juridiques, financiers, artistiques et techniques de la coproduction internationale. Les projets sélectionnés seront présentés par leurs producteurs au public le samedi 29 novembre à la Médiathèque Jacques Demy. For the last 8 years the Produire au Sud workshops have accompanied the work of producers from Asia, Africa and South America in order to contribute to hone their craft earn professional credit through training and accompaniment. If these cinematographies from around the world have become familiar to us and have found a window in professional European circuits, they remain nevertheless fragile and it is more than ever crucial to stand by them with passion and determination. Since 2004, Produire au Sud workshops abroad push the boundaries of the Nantes rendezvous, in order to encourage exchanges and joint programs with foreign institutions and festivals. This recognition enables us to keep on imagining every year new destinations, new seminars at the service of today s ongoing cinematography and to visualize tomorrow s diversity. This year the Produire au Sud workshop welcomes seven new feature film projects represented by their producers and film directors as well as two young Algerian producers as non-registered participants. French and European professionals from the cinematographic world will accompany producers and directors through legal, financial, artistic and technical issues of the coproduction system. Participants are invited to present their projects to spectators and professionals on Saturday November 29 at the Médiathèque Jacques Demy. Tous deux ont écrit Harraga blues, un long-métrage de fiction entièrement dédié à la jeunesse algérienne. Elle développe ce film au sein de sa société de production MH Prod. After obtaining a degree in communication and information sciences at Algiers University, Amina Haddad worked in several audiovisual production companies where she was in charge of communication and then worked as a production assistant. She s now working as a director assistant, among others with his husband, the director Moussa Haddad. They wrote the feature film Harraga Blues together, which is dedicated to the Algerian youth. She s developping this film within her production company MH Prod. Zine et Rayan sont deux jeunes amis qui rêvent de s exiler en Europe. Ils aspirent à une vie meilleure et rien ne pourra les arrêter. Or, un réseau mafieux recrute des volontaires parmi ces candidats à l émigration clandestine, afin de leur confier la mission de transporter de la drogue, moyennant le prix de leur embarquement sur les radeaux de la mort Zine and Rayan are two young friends who dream of immigrating to Europe. They are set on finding a better life for themselves and nothing will stop them. 4 Algérie Le Fils des Djinns (Weld Ejnouns) Amel Chouikh PRODUCTRICE / PRODUCER Amel Chouikh est passionnée de cinéma depuis toujours. Actuellement étudiante en master de gestion à l Ecole Supérieure Algérienne des Affaires (ESAA) et diplômée de l Institut National de Commerce d Alger, elle travaille parallèlement sur sa première production Le Fils des Djinns, un long-métrage de Yasmine Chouikh. Graduated from the National Institute of Business of Algiers, she s actually studying management at the Ecole Supérieure Algérienne des Affaires. Fond of cinema for years, Le Fils des Djinns, written and directed by Yasmine Chouikh, will be her first feature film production. Dans cette communauté, les jeunes filles doivent suivre un rituel d initiation à l approche de leurs mariages. Meriem doit épouser son cousin, comme l a promis sa mère à son défunt mari. Mais sa rencontre avec le fils des Djinns va bouleverser sa vie. Elle se révolte contre sa famille. Répudiée et contrainte de quitter son village, elle se réfugie dans une cité interdite, cimetière des femmes exclues, où elle retrouve le goût de la liberté. In this community, the girls must follow an initiation ritual at the approach of their marriages. Meriem must marry her cousin, as her mother had promised her late husband. But the course of her life will change when she meets Djinns son. She revolts against her family. Repudiated and forced to leave her village, she takes refuge in a prohibited city, cemetery of the excluded women, where she regains her freedom of thought. Chine Addicted to Love Teresa Kwong PRODUCTRICE / PRODUCER Née à Hong Kong, Teresa Kwong est productrice de films et de créations audiovisuelles. Actuellement directrice du Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards (IFVA), elle travaille à la promotion de la nouvelle génération de talents asiatiques. Depuis 2001, elle est membre du NETPAC (réseau des promoteurs du cinéma asiatique) et produit, depuis 2006, de nombreux films de jeunes réalisateurs de Hong Kong et de Chine. Addicted to Love est son premier long-métrage en tant que productrice. Born in Hong Kong, Teresa Kwong is a promoter, curator and producer for film and media arts. Currently the Director of the Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards (IFVA), she is committed to nurture and promote the next generation of Asian talents in creative media. Since 2001, she has become a member of NETPAC (Network for Promoters of Asian Cinema) and has started producing films with a number of emerging filmmakers in Hong Kong and China since Addicted to Love is her first producing feature. Hao Liu RÉALISATEUR / DIRECTOR Né à Shangai, Hao Liu est diplômé de l Académie du Film de Pékin en En 2002, son premier long-métrage ChenMo and MeiTing est récompensé de la mention spéciale «Prix du Premier Film-PREMIERE» au Festival International du Film de Berlin. Le film est sorti en salles en Allemagne en 2002 et en France en En 2004, il achève son deuxième film, Two Great Sheep qui obtient lui aussi plusieurs prix, notamment au Festival du Film Asiatique de Deauville et au Festival du Film Indépendant de Washington. Addicted to Love est son troisième long-métrage. Born in Shanghai, he graduated from the Directing Department of the Beijing Film Academy in In 2002, his debuted feature, ChenMo and MeiTing obtained the PREMIERE First Movie Award Special Mention of the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival. This film was released in Germany (2002) and in France (2004). In 2004, he finished his second feature, Two Great Sheep. It obtained many prizes especially in Deauville Asian Film Festival and Washington Independant Film Festival. Addicted to Love is his third feature. Amel Chouikh ACIMA FILM contact : acimafilm@hotmail.com Addicted to Love met en scène la vieillesse de façon réaliste mais non dénuée d humour. Old Pop et Li Ma s aiment éperdument depuis longtemps. Ils réalisent qu ils présentent tous deux les premiers signes de la maladie d Alzheimer. Old Pop et Li Ma essayent alors de s appuyer sur leur relation, leurs expériences et leur force mentale pour ralentir l évolution de la maladie. Addicted to Love is a realist film featuring the elderly life with a great sense of humour. Old Pop and Li Ma were fond of each other since long. Apparently both Old Pop and Li Ma realize that they are showing early signs of Alzheimer. They then try to use their relationship and experiences to slow down the effect of the debilitating illness. 5 Chine RX Ma Lin Feng PRODUCTEUR / PRODUCER Ma Lin Feng est diplômé en réalisation et écriture de scénarios de la Central Academy of Drama de Chine. Il est également violoniste. Il a déjà produit et réalisé deux courts-métrages et co-produit des publicités et clips vidéo. Co-fondateur de Concerto Image, société de production de films indépendants chinois créée en 2007, il y est actuellement en charge des relations publiques. RX est le premier long-métrage qu il produit. Ma Lin Feng is major in film writing and directing from The Central Academy Of Drama in China. He is also a violinist. As producer and director, he directed and produced his two short films and co-produced a lot of commercial and music videos. In 2007,he co-formed Concerto Image Ltd, dedicated to independant film production in China. He s presently in charge of public relation for the company. RX is his first feature film production. Colombie Love Teresa Tatiana Villacob PRODUCTRICE / PRODUCER Tatiana Villacob est productrice et auteure, diplômée de l Université nationale de Colombie (Ecole du Cinéma et de la Télévision) et de l Ecole d Art de l Université de São Paulo. Elle est co-fondatrice de la société de production Proyección Films où elle développe de nombreux projets tels que Dolores (court-métrage), Leaving Absence, The Exit, The Truth Above All. Elle travaille actuellement au développement du film d Ana Sofia Osorio Ruiz, Love Teresa. Tatiana Villacob is a cinema producer and scriptwriter with degree from the School of Cinema an Television of the National University of Colombia and the Arts School of the University of São Paulo, Brazil. She is the co-founder of Proyección Films where she develops different kinds of film projects such as Dolores (shortfilm), Leaving Absence, The Exit, The Truth Above All. She is presently working on the feature film Love Teresa by Ana Sofia Osorio Ruiz. Ronin Hsu RÉALISATEUR / DIRECTOR Ronin Hsu se spécialise en réalisation et écriture de scénario à la Central Academy of Drama de Chine. Son premier court-métrage a été récompensé lors du Festival du Film Universitaire de Pékin en L année suivant, il crée Concerto Image qui se consacre à la production de films indépendants en Chine. Depuis lors, il a réalisé et produit de nombreux courts-métrages, publicités et clips vidéo. Il travaille actuellement sur son premier long-métrage RX. Ronin Hsu is major in film writing and directing from The Central Academy Of Drama in China. His first short film was awarded in Beijing University film festivals in The next year, he formed Concerto Image Ltd devoted to independent film production in China. Since then, he directed and produced another short film and a lot of commercial and music videos. He is currently developing his first feature film RX. Ana Sofia Osorio Ruiz RÉALISATRICE / DIRECTOR Ana Sofia Osorio Ruiz est réalisatrice et productrice. Elle est diplômée d un master en realisation de l Université San Paul à Madrid et d un cycle en direction de la photographie. Elle s est également formée dans de nombreux ateliers d écriture, dernièrement à l EICTV et au séminaire Ibermedia UNIACC. Ana Sofia Osorio Ruiz is a cinematographic producer and director. She received a master in Cinematographic Direction at University San Paul CEU of Madrid and a graduate in direction of photography. She has also attended diverse courses for script writing. Recently she attented EICTV workshop and the seminar of edition of script and creative production of Ibermedia UNIACC. Dans une petite ville chinoise, un couple de paysans n arrive plus à payer le traitement médical de la femme, affectée depuis 4 ans par un problème gynécologique. Le couple sans ressources décide alors d utiliser un remède miracle prescrit par un charlatan. La femme tente de raisonner son mari qui projette de tuer un vagabond afin de se procurer les ingrédients de cette potion à base d organes génitaux masculins. A t-elle vraiment un espoir de guérir? A small city in China, a couple of peasant-workers has no money to continue medicine treatment for the wife who has been afflicted with gynecological disease for 4 years. The helpless couple buys a magical prescription from a mountebank. The materials of the prescription is a man s genitals. The wife tries to stop her husband to kill an innocent vagrant to acquire the materials. Will she be cured? Is there any hope in her life? Antonio et Amalia sont mariés depuis plus de 50 ans. Ils mènent une vie tranquille, rythmée par les habitudes installées après tant d années de vie commune. Une lettre perdue, envoyée en 1953 par Antonio à Teresa, sa bien aimée d alors, retourne à son expéditeur. Cette lettre ravive en lui les souvenirs du passé. Antonio décide alors de retrouver Teresa et de regagner son amour. Antonio and Amalia have been married for over fifty years. They have a quiet and monotonous life based on the routine and habits of so many years of living together until a forgotten letter sent in 1953 by Antonio to his girlfriend of the time, reaches his hands and revives his memories for the woman who he is now willing to find and win back. 6 Malaisie The Tour Joanna Lee PRODUCTRICE / PRODUCER Joanna Lee travaille depuis sept ans comme productrice chez Red Films et Red Communications, à Kuala Lumpur, Malaisie. Elle a produit deux longs-métrages et de nombreux projets télévisuels tout public. Joanna Lee souhaite développer des projets originaux, percutants et traîtant de sujets de société. Elle travaille actuellement à la production de The Tour de Chris Chong Chan Fui. Joanna Lee has been working as a producer for seven years with the companies Red Films and Red Communications in Malaysia. She has produced two feature films with theatrical release within the region, and numerous television projects that range from children, women, and lifestyle programming. Joanna Lee and Red Films Company is committed to projects that are provocative with socially conscious themes at mind. She is presently working on the production of The Tour. Chris Chong Chan Fui RÉALISATEUR / DIRECTOR Chris Chong Chan Fui, réalisateur bornéo-malaisien, concentre son travail sur les œuvres expérimentales. Son projet Block B a été présenté dans de nombreux festivals internationaux (Toronto, Rotterdam, Berlin). Son projet Karaoke a été sélectionné pour l atelier de réécriture du Festival de Berlin (Script Clinic) ainsi qu au Hong Kong Filmart. Il travaille actuellement à la réalisation d une installation vidéo à Kuala Lumpur et Toronto pour 2009/2010. Chris Chong Chan Fui is a Borneo-Malaysian-born filmmaker focused on unconventional stories and experimentation. Chris experimental work Block B was invited in prestigious festivals (Toronto Film Festival, IFFR, Berlinale). Chris Chong last project, Karaoke, has previously been selected for the Berlinale script clinic and the Hong Kong HAF filmart. He is currently working on a solo exhibition of an audio-video installation in Kuala Lumpur and Toronto in 2009/10. Panama Juega Vivo Irina Ruiz Figueroa PRODUCTRICE / PRODUCER Licenciée en Ingénierie électronique et communication à l Université de Panama Irina Ruiz Figueroa obtient un diplôme en Production à l École Internationale de Cinéma et Télévision (EICTV-Cuba). Elle commence à travailler sur des documentaires historiques et des séries télévisées. Elle produit Un riff para Lazaro de Rémi Borgeaud qui a reçu de nombreux prix. Elle travaille actuellement sur La Ruta un documentaire de Pituka Ortega Heilbron et Juega Vivo d Enrique Pérez. Ces deux projets ont obtenu l appui du programme Ibermedia. Irina Ruiz Figueroa got a degree in electronic engineering and communication at the Panama University and is graduated in production from the International School of Cinema and Television (EICTV) of Cuba. She starts working for documentaries and TV programs. She produced Un riff para Lazaro by Remi Borgeaud which received many prices. She s currently working on La Ruta, a documentary by Pituka Ortega Heilbron y Juega Vivo by Enrique Pérez Him. Both projects are supported by the Ibermedia program. Enrique Pérez Him RÉALISATEUR / DIRECTOR Enrique Pérez Him a commencé dès l âge de quatorze ans des expérimentations audiovisuelles. Après avoir obtenu un diplôme de marketing, il travaille aussi bien sur des projets publicitaires et que sur des longs-métrages. Enrique Pérez Him poursuit avec passion ses études de cinéma à la EICTV à Cuba et réalise notamment les courts-métrages Hombre atado a una silla et La Verdad nada. Juega Vivo, son projet de long-métrage, a reçu une bourse de la Fondation Carolina (Madrid 2007) pour son développement. Enrique Pérez Him made his first audiovisual experimentations when he was 14 years old. After getting a degree in marketing, he worked for commercials and feature films. He directed short films such as Hombre atado a una silla and La Verdad nada. He s presently studying at the EICTV in Cuba. Juega Vivo, his first feature film, received the Carolina Foundation grant (Madrid 2007), for its development. L histoire commence dans les montagnes, passe par le tourbillon de la ville, se brise dans la mer, et pour finir retourne à la montagne. The Tour se passe sur l île du Bornéo et raconte l histoire de deux guides, Arzul et Sharifa, l un travaille à la montagne et l autre à la ville. La tragédie maintient ces deux amoureux constamment séparés par l environnement dans lequel ils travaillent et pour finir force Azrul à rechercher Sharifa en haut de la montagne. Ce projet a participé à l Atelier Produire au Sud, Bangkok The story begins in the mountains, whirls within the city, then crashes into the sea, to meet its end in the mountains again. Set on the island of Borneo, The Tour is a story of two tour guides, Azrul and Sharifa, one working in the mountain and the other in the city. Tragedy keeps the lovers constantly separated by the environment in which they work and finally leaves Azrul looking for Sharifa up towards the mountain. This project attended the Producing South Workshop, Bangkok Deux adolescents que tout sépare, Tito et Regie, un gamin de la classe moyenne et un petit arnaqueur de rue, réalisent qu ils se sont fait piéger par leur dealer. Afin d échapper à une condamnation sans appel de la mafia locale, ils décident de cambrioler une riche propriété de la côte. Cette aventure conduira nos deux protagonistes à tester leurs valeurs morales et à se frotter aux barrières sociales. Face à l adversité, une amitié verra le jour. Two teenagers that all separates, Tito and Regie, a middle class kid and a small street swindler, realize that they were taken in by their dealer. In order to escape from the Mafia, they decide to burglarize a rich person s property on the coast. This adventure will lead our two young men to test their morals and face social barriers. 7 Sénégal Le Vent du Sud Ousmane Sall PRODUCTEUR / PRODUCER En poste en tant qu agent commercial à Kaolack (Sénégal), Ousmane Sall abandonne son métier pour suivre une formation en management et gestion de production audiovisuelle à MSA Productions à Dakar. À l issue de cette formation, il démarre le développement de sa première production, Le Vent du Sud, long-métrage de Djibril Saliou Ndiaye. Il travaille depuis 2007 au sein de la société de production Dream Works Entertainment. Ousmane Sall was a sales representative in Kaolack (Senegal) before attending a production management training at the MSA Productions in Dakar. Since 2007, he s working for Dream Works Entertainment, a production company. He s presently developping his first feature film as a producer, The Wind from the South. Djibril Saliou Ndiaye RÉALISATEUR / DIRECTOR Instituteur de formation, Djibril Saliou Ndiaye suit une formation en réalisation à MSA Productions (Dakar) et réalise de nombreux stages avec le CIFAP et l ambassade de France au Sénégal, puis avec le Goethe Institute de Dakar. Il participe en 2007 à l université d été de la Fémis à Paris et travaille en tant qu assistant réalisateur sur de nombreux tournages au Sénégal. Il a déjà réalisé deux fictions pour la télévision et quatre films documentaires. Le Vent du Sud, qu il développe actuellement, est son premier long-métrage. As a teacher, Djibril Saliou Ndiaye attended a training in film making at the MSA Productions in Dakar and diverse training courses with the French Embassy in Senegal and with the Goethe Institute in Dakar. In 2007, he attended the summer session at the Femis in Paris and worked as a director assistant in Senegal. He directed two TV films and four documentaries. He s now working on his first feature film, The Wind from the South. Turquie Our Grand Despair Nadir Öperli PRODUCTEUR / PRODUCER Nadir Öperli est né à Izmir en Il obtient une licence en administration commerciale et un doctorat Radio-TV-Cinéma à l Université d Istanbul. Il est le co-fondateur du magazine de cinéma Altyazi et fait partie de la rédaction de Sinema.com, un site internet turc. En 2006, il crée avec Yamaç Okur, la société de production Bulut Film. Il est l un des producteurs de Summer Book, premier long-métrage de Seyfi Teoman. Il se partage entre son travail de producteur et de critique de cinéma. Nadir Öperli was born in Izmir in He received his BA degree in Business Administration and a PhD degree in Radio-TV-Cinema at Istambul University. He co-founded the Altyazi Cinema Magazine and worked as a member of the publishing board as well as the editor of Sinema.com, a Turkish web site about cinema. He founded Bulut Film Productions in 2006 with Yamaç Okur. He is one of the two producers of Summer Book (by Seyfi Teoman), which made its world premiere at the 58th Berlin Film Festival. He continues to work as a film critic and producer. Seyfi Teoman RÉALISATEUR / DIRECTOR Seyfi Teoman est né en 1977 à Kayseri en Turquie. Après des études d économie à l Université Bogazici d Istanbul, il vit à Lodz en Pologne où il étudie la réalisation à la Polish National Film School. Il y tourne son court-métrage Apartment en 2004 qui est présenté dans plusieurs festivals internationaux. Il réalise son premier long-métrage Summer Book en Le film est projeté en avant-première au Festival du Film de Berlin et reçoit de nombreux prix dans plusieurs festivals prestigieux. Il se consacre aujourd hui à son second long-métrage, Our Grand Despair. Seyfi Teoman was born in Kayseri, Turkey in After studying economics at Bogazici University (Istambul), he lived in Lodz, Poland for two years, studying film directing at Polish National Film School. He shot his short film, Apartment in 2004 which has been screened in many international film festivals. He directed his first feature Summer Book in The film has been premiered in Berlin and screened and awarded in prestigious film festivals. He is working now on his second feature, Our Grand Despair.
