The championships are centred in the metropolitan area called Tri-City made up of Sopot, Gdańsk and Gdynia. The championships will take place in the Ergo Arena which was opened in 2010 and literally straddles the boundary between the two cities of Sopot and Gdańsk which runs through the middle of the stadium. It s a physical symbol of the cooperation across the Tri-City area which will deliver an exciting three-day championships. The timetable of the 2014 IAAF orld Indoor Championships, with only one final and the conclusion of the Pentathlon on Friday 7 arch, will focus on qualification competitions throughout the first day and the second morning, concluding with two intensely packed and exciting evenings of finals, ensuring that we will experience the very best of track and field entertainment in Sopot. hile Sopot 2014 will be the first occasion on which Poland has hosted the IAAF orld Indoor Championships, the IAAF ember Federation for Poland has been a regular and well trusted host of IAAF competitions. Earlier this year the city of Bydgoszcz for the second time in its history delivered an exceptionally well organised and atmospheric edition of the IAAF orld Cross Country Championships. e can rest assured that the organisation of Sopot 2014 rests in similarly safe hands. As the local organising committee approaches the last stages of their preparations we can look forward with the highest degree of anticipation to next year s championships. 3 essage du Président de l IAAF C est avec grand plaisir que je rédige ces quelques lignes pour le tout premier bulletin de la 15ème édition des Championnats du monde en salle qui aura lieu à Sopot, en Pologne, du vendredi 7 au dimanche 9 mars En 2014, l IAAF organisera cinq compétitions de la Série ondiale de l Athlétisme et les ondiaux en salle représenteront le point fort de la saison dans une année sans championnats du monde en plein air, ni Jeux Olympiques. Les championnats se dérouleront dans la zone métropolitaine appelée tri-cité, qui relie Sopot, Gdansk et Gdynia. Ils se tiendront dans le stade Ergo Arena qui a ouvert ses portes en 2010 et qui se situe, stricto sensu, sur la ligne de démarcation entre les villes de Sopot et de Gdańsk qui passe juste au milieu du stade! C est la représentation symbolique de la coopération entre les trois villes qui nous laisse présager trois jours de compétitions captivantes. Le programme des Championnats du monde en salle 2014 a été conçu pour assurer d intenses moments d athlétisme. Une seule finale et le pentathlon auront lieu le vendredi 7 mars qui sera consacré aux épreuves de qualification comme la seconde matinée, pour finir en beauté lors des deux soirées avec des finales passionnantes devant un public nombreux. Bien que la Pologne organise pour la première fois les Championnats du monde en salle, la Fédération polonaise d athlétisme est une habituée des compétitions de l IAAF et nous a accordé à maintes reprises l hospitalité. Récemment, la ville de Bydgoszcz a accueilli pour la seconde fois, les championnats du monde de cross dont il a livré une édition exceptionnelle en termes d organisation et d ambiance. Sopot 2014 a donc toute notre confiance et repose en de bonnes mains. Le Comité d organisation local aborde maintenant les dernières étapes des préparatifs et nous savons pouvoir nous attendre à des Championnats hors pair l an prochain. Dear Sport Fans, I have a great pleasure to invite you to Sopot on occasion of IAAF orld Indoor Championships which will be held in arch 2014, 7th 9th in Ergo Arena, located on the border of Sopot and Gdańsk in Poland. Ergo Arena is one of the most modern arenas in Europe, hosting a wide variety of events such as the world championships in many sport disciplines. Depending on the event, the 30m high arena can host up to 15 thousand guests. I would also like to encourage you to discover Sopot, a small tourist city situated on the Baltic Sea coast, known as the summer capital of Poland. The town s unique character, beautiful scenery, long sandy beaches, attractive recreational venues, a lot of cultural and entertainment events, many Festivals and international sport competitions and a good transport availability, make Sopot a destination visited each year by over two million tourists and holidaymakers. Clubs and diverse sportrecreational infrastructure cause that on one side Sopot competitors succeed in the Olympics and orld and European Championships, on the other side, children, the youth and adult inhabitants have the possibility of spending their free time actively and develop their sport passions. The Forest Stadium - the place where the Olympic medalist, Sopot - Sport and Recreation Anna Rogowska, trains, ERGO ARENA, the tennis court complex, the historic and now revitalised Hippodrome,the marina next to the Pier and wide offer of Sopot s sailing clubs make Sopot a perfect place for organising sport events of the highest rank. 17 Training venue / arm-up venue The training area for the participants of IAAF orld Indoor Championships SOPOT 2014 will be in the University of Physical Education and Sport in Gdansk. The university enables a fully equipped hall in which it is possible to make a special athletics training: long jump, triple jump, pole vault, high jump, shot put, running disciplines.
