You can also obtain the tasting notes through our website at Whether you view the 2013 vintage in Bordeaux as either a. Winemaker's Vintage a vintage in which skill, time, patience and resources are put to the test, Or a Drinking Vintage one to be consumed in its youth, while you wait for your 2009's and 2010's to mature..there are many excellent wines at very reasonable prices! The key to success with the 2013 vintage in Bordeaux is low yields. Many estates produced less than half of their normal quantity and there are some Chateaux that only made close to 25% of what they usually produce. Winemaker's played a crucial role with the most successful wines of the vintage being able to preserve the balance between the wine's aromatic expression and a precise, silky structure. The results are light wines characterized by freshness and low alcohol levels. In many ways, after the super-ripe, concentrated years of 2009 and 2010, this is a return to a traditional style of red Bordeaux. White Bordeaux wine from 2013 will be excellent, with Sauvignon Blanc looking particularly good. It will also be a stellar year for Sauternes, as the region experienced high humidity at the end of September which spelled good news for the winemaker's in this sweet wine appellation, as noble rot, the key to botrytized wines, spread quickly. As James Suckling said in April of this year... the top estates made some fascinating wines with finesse and subtlety 2013 Bordeaux is for drinkers. Most of the wines are light and will not require much, if any, aging to show well Bordeaux is clearly a year with a distinct, red berry character.
