Dr. Kamal Bhattacharya a rejoint IBM en 1999 après avoir obtenu un doctorat en Physique Théorique à l Université de Göttingem, en Allemagne. Dr. Kamal Bhattacharya, Vice-President and IBM Distinguished Engineer, is the inaugural director of IBM Research Africa, IBM s 12th research presence globally and the first commercial research center in Africa, located in Nairobi, Kenya, launched in 2012 and Johannesburg, South Africa, launched in Dr. Bhattacharya joined IBM in 1999 after completing his PhD in Theoretical Physics at the University of Göttingen, Germany. Since 2001, he s held several technical and management leadership positions at IBM Research in the US, India and now Africa. Throughout his career he has consistently delivered differentiating science & technology based innovations to solve real world problems. Dr. Bhattacharya has received multiple IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards and multiple best paper awards at international Computer Science conferences. He has authored 50+ scientific publications, filed 20+ patents and writes a blog about technology in Africa and other developing regions ( tumblr.com/). He s a frequent speaker at many international scientific and business conferences, and tirelessly speaks about his passion for innovation in Africa. He then realized the Rwandan leaders and Congolese nationalists had not the same interests and objectives, so he left the RDC in 1999 and created the RDC-Kisangani, under the presidence of Professor Wamba Dia Wamba. He then became Defense Commissioner, a function he held until January After the merger of the RDC-L/ML and the MLC, which resulted in the creation of the Front for the National Liberation of the Congo (FLC), he became National Secretary, in charge of the military activities, with the rank of Colonel, throughout the MLC. In , he headed the delegation of military experts of the MLC in charge of negotiating the merge of the belligerent armies in order to create the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) during the political negotiations and the inter-congolese dialogue of Sun City, in South Africa.
